MEET THE ARTISTS Emma Grace Wade is a sixteen-year-old vocalist and aspiring opera singer. She attends Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women where she is active in her school’s Performing Arts Program. Her passion for social justice led her to co- found her school’s Civic Equality Club and start a Black Student Union. Emma Grace studies voice with Carrol Frangipane at the Eastman Community Music School and anticipates earning an advanced diploma with honors. She has attended the New York State Summer School for the Arts Vocal Program, Eastman Experience: Summer Classical Studies, and Summer Performing Arts with Juilliard. Emma Grace plans to pursue a degree in vocal performance. Luke Pisani is a Junior at Hilton High School who studies violin with Shannon Nance. Luke played with the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra for six seasons and served as concertmaster, conducting apprentice, and twice won the HYSO concerto competition. Other accomplishments include: David Hochstein Recital Competition Winner, Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition Winner, NYSMTA Heddy Killian Competition (1st, Junior Division), MCSMA High School All-County Orchestra concertmaster, and Csehy Summer School of Music concertmaster and Award of Honor. His string quartet, Saturday Quartet, won the 2021 Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music Competition. Luke’s other passions include jazz piano, varsity basketball, and serving at church. Seamus Gillis is a rising Senior at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School where he participates in the Select Choir and the theater program, under the tutelage of Kenneth Goold, as well as the Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble. Seamus has performed in two All-County choirs and one All-County Jazz Choir. He’s been taking voice lessons at the Eastman Community Music School with Hannah Harrow since May of 2020. In addition to the Nobel Hirsh Award for Male Vocalists, he received the Nancie Roop Kennedy Vocal Scholarship Award. After high school, Seamus plans to attend college and major in Planetary Geology, possibly with a minor in music. Daniel Kinney is a rising senior at Pittsford Sutherland High School. He currently studies Percussion with Kyle Peters at Eastman Community Music School, and his past percussion teachers include Ruth Cahn and Ira Fair. Daniel recently won Second Prize in the High School division of the Percussion on the Sound 2021 Competition. This spring Daniel was awarded both the Walter & Ethel Cope Prize and the Ruth Cahn Endowed Percussion Scholarship by ECMS, where he has studied since the age of 8 and will soon complete Advanced Pre-Collegiate Diplomas in both Music Theory and Percussion. Daniel has been a percussionist in the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra for the past 5 years, is currently HYSO Principal Percussionist and won the 2018 HYSO Concerto Competition, soloing with the orchestra on Marimba in 2019. Daniel plays with Eastman’s Youth Jazz Orchestra and the ECMS Advanced Percussion Ensemble as well as the Wind Ensemble (Percussion), Jazz Band (Alto Sax) and Jazz Ensemble (Drum Set) at his high school. Daniel is also an advanced pianist who has been studying with Brian Preston since 2010. He is a frequent piano accompanist at NYSSMA Solofest and enjoys playing Drum Set and/or Auxiliary Percussion in pit orchestras for musicals. Daniel studied Orchestral Percussion at the Interlochen Arts Camp the summer of 2021 after four summers studying at New England Music Camp, where he was a finalist in the 2018 NEMC Concerto Competition. MEET THE ARTISTS he participated in the the Sandbox Percussion Seminar in Brooklyn, NY, through NYU and became the Percussionist for the 60’s band, “It’s My Party.” Outside of music, Daniel is the top scorer on his school’s Trivia Team, plays Ultimate Frisbee, and is currently the Senior Patrol Leader of BSA Troop 336 in Pittsford. This summer he is also doing his Eagle Project, which is building foldable conductor podiums for the ROC Music Collaborative. Daniel plans to pursue a degree in Percussion Performance. Addison Rando is a rising senior at Wayne Central High School. She participates in her school’s musicals, cabaret performances, and is a member of their Select Chorus. She has always loved music since her first show when she was 8 years old. She has been taking vocal lessons with Susanna Adams for the past 5 years. She has participated in 11 various shows and musicals. Some of her favorite roles include Maria in The Sound of Music and Tuptim in The King and I. She also participated in ACDA Eastern Honors Choir. At the 2021 Rochester Philharmonic League Young Artist Auditions Addison was awarded the Jan DeGaetani Scholarship for Vocalists, as well as named runner-up for the Tessa Martin Award for Female Vocalists. She would like to thank her voice teacher, Susanna Adams and her parents for their continued support. Amy Feng, a rising senior at Pittsford Sutherland High School, has studied piano with Elier Suarez since age 5. Amy is a top prize winner of piano competitions including the Duquesne National Young Artist Competition, Nazareth College Piano Competition, Ithaca College Piano Competition, Empire State Piano Competition, and David Hochstein Recital Competition, among others. As a concerto competition winner, Amy has been a featured piano soloist in concerts with both the Genesee Symphony Orchestra and the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra (HYSO). Amy was the Grand Prize winner of the 2021 Rochester Philharmonic League Young Artist Auditions as well as the winner of the Aldridge-Tinker Scholarship for Instrumentalists and the Mildred and Julius Ness Award for Piano. She was invited twice to perform at the NYSSMA Conference All-State Piano Showcase concert and was invited to give a recital at the 2020 Rochester Piano Teachers Guild annual conference. Also a cellist studying with Kathy Kemp since age 7, Amy is the principal cellist of HYSO and served as the principal cellist of the 2018 NYSSMA Junior High Area All-State Orchestra. As a winner of the 2019 HYSO concerto competition, Amy was the featured cello soloist in the 2020 Hochstein Centennial Orchestra concert. Amy also plays chamber music as the cellist of the Hochstein Saturday Scholarship String Quartet, which recently won best ensemble at the Youth Chamber Music Competition hosted by the Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music (SFCM). Outside of traditional concert halls, Amy is deeply engaged in giving back to community, organizing and performing in the student-run project Music for Love’s outreach concerts and fundraisers since 2015, bringing live music to senior citizens, hospital patients and young children. Aside from music, Amy loves math and science and plays tennis on the Sutherland varsity team.

ROCHESTER PHILHARMONIC LEAGUE YOUNG ARTIST AUDITIONS History and Purpose The Young Artist Auditions is an annual competition sponsored by the Rochester Philharmonic League to encourage and acknowledge the accomplished musicianship of high school age students. It includes five Awards of $500 each, $200 to runners-up, two Scholarships of $1,000 each, and a Grand Prize: the opportunity to perform in concert with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. The awards are open to young musicians in grades 10 through 12 from the nine-county region surrounding Rochester, New York. Awards and Scholarships $500/$200 awards include the Ruth and Sidney Salzman Award for Strings; the Helen and George Greer Instrumental Award; the Mildred and Julius Ness Award for Piano; the Nobel Hirsh Award for Male Vocalists and the Tessa Martin Award for Female Vocalists. $1,000 Scholarships are the Aldridge-Tinker Scholarship for Instrumentalists and the Jan DeGaetani Scholarship for Vocalists. Each award category, the two scholarships, and the Grand Prize are judged by a panel of professional performing musicians and educators. Support and Funding The Rochester Philharmonic League, founded in 1929 as a support group for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, has organized and hosted the Young Artist Auditions since 1955. Awards and scholarships are funded by endowed gifts. Additional support is provided by the generous contributions of League and community members. The Eastman School of Music provides the use of classrooms and performance halls on the day of the event. For the past several years, the Rochester Philharmonic League has presented its most recent Young Artist Audition winners in recital, Young Artists in Concert: A Celebration of Winners.
