at Thornlie Senior High School in 2021 for MESH
  and Digital Tech & Health

• This group will continue in Year 8 2022 for MESH
  and Digital Tech & Health

  selections in Year 9 & 10
ICT Specialised Pathways
• Potential students need to apply to be accepted and must
enrol in the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme

• There will be limited scholarships available so that financial
  disadvantage does not exclude participation

• The ICT Specialised Class will be made up from students who
complete an application process in Year 6 and who achieve a
  C grade average

• The Information and Communication Technology General
Capability of The Australian Curriculum will underpin all
curriculum planning in MESH, allowing for cross-curricular
  connections
What computing device?
• Students are invited to select their own device including those already used
in the home setting. We recognise that cost for families play a significant
factor in the implementation of this program and stress that the school
does not intend to have families purchase expensive equipment for at
   school use.
Approved devices include:
• Laptops running Windows 10 or higher
• Macbooks running OXS 10.13 High Siera or higher
Minimum Device specifications are:
• Capacity to connect to the Thornlie SHS Wi-FI
• Screen size – no smaller than 10-inch screen size is recommended. Devices
with a screen size less than 10 inches are considered inappropriate as it
   causes eye strain over time.
• Battery life of 6-10 hours. Lightweight for portability

What software will be needed on my child’s computer?
• Office 365 is available free online from the DET Portal.
• Virus protection software.
Purchasing Options
• Thornlie Senior High School has partnered with JB Hi-Fi
Education Solutions to provide parents and caregivers
with an option for purchasing devices at a reduced
educational price. Each of the devices listed is suitable
for the learning activities that take place over our
  school network.
• For peace of mind, there is an insurance option and an
extended warranty guarantee. Delivery will be at the
student’s home or picked up from the store.

Rationale
• A laptop environment allows for a flipped classroom
approach, gamification and flexible learning options
  for learning anywhere anytime.

• These classes enhance engagement and enthusiasm
  among students, improves teacher-student
relationships and promotes 21st-century skills such
as digital literacy, problem solving and a STEM
  futures focus.
Some of the benefits of using laptops in the
            classroom include:

• Fostering online collaboration with other students
• Providing curriculum support and additional
strategies to attend to gaps in student learning
• Allowing students to complete assignments online
and submit their work via Learning Management
  System –Compass and Connect
• Promoting better organisation to help students
keep track of their learning using Office 365
• Academic progress enhanced by: improved
feedback on their writing, editing and revising
work, access to a wider range of online
resources, and publishing or sharing their work.
• Improving students’ computer, literacy and
  numeracy skills
• Making learning more engaging and immersive
  for technology-savvy students
• Individualised learning at student’s own pace
• Greater parent involvement in their child’s
  learning
