A WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE SAC EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
On behalf of the Ledbury Park School Advisory Council (SAC) we’re thrilled to welcome everyone back
for what promises to be another amazing year at Ledbury Park E&MS!
Committee Updates
In addition to the Executive Committee that was elected at the last SAC meeting in June, we are pleased
to be welcoming in the following new SAC Committee Chairs:
Communications J. Michelle Filice
Lunch Committee Sarita Ronski & Shauna Mayles
Lunchtime/After-School Programs Ellen Levy & Amy Kroft
Parent Connections & Volunteer Committee Melanie Wine-Elmaleh & Jodi Nisker
We are still looking for Chairs/Co-Chairs for our Fundraising Committee and Spirit & Social Events
Committee, as well as a Co-Chair for our Communications Committee. Please
contact executive@ledburypark.ca if you are interested in serving as a Chair/Co-Chair or if you are
interested in assisting with initiatives handled by these Committees - we’ll take all the help we can get,
big or small!
Spirit & Social Events
Notwithstanding our somewhat diminished “bench strength”, SAC has an exciting line-up of fun social
events in the works for the coming year, starting with our annual Welcome Back BBQ being held on
Thursday, September 13th, 5:00pm to 7:30pm. All of last year’s exciting food and entertainment will be
back, in addition to new sports related games. DO NOT MISS THIS MARQUEE SAC EVENT!
Returning favourites such as Lip Sync, Skate Night, Ski Day, Ledbury Goes to the Jays and Marlies are
once again being planned. We are looking for volunteers to help run Movie Night and Bingo Night. If you
are interested please email the Parent Connections and Volunteer Committee
at parentconnections@ledburypark.ca. This year we have partnered with a new company to bring our
Ledbury clothing line to a whole new level - stay tuned for its launch in the Fall.
Fundraising
SAC’s fundraising efforts will continue in earnest and once again be led by the central BELIEVE campaign.
Since our two-year target was met, new fundraising goals will be set (details to follow).
We expect to have the ever-popular Cookie Dough drive back in late Fall. If you missed last year’s adult
Page 2only Winter Wonderland event, you missed one great evening of fun. We’re already hard at work on this
year’s event - stay tuned for more details! Towards the spring, look for the BBQ Bonanza and the return
of the Ledbury Marketplace which should be bigger and better. The possibility of the first ever Ledbury
Golf Tournament is also being discussed.
SAC Lunch
This year the weekly SAC Lunch will once again feature Panago Pizza. There will also be some Special
Lunch Days from BBQ Gourmet, serving up hamburgers/hotdogs, grilled cheese, and new this year -
‘Breakfast for Lunch’. Registration details will be sent via email.
Lunchtime/After-School Programs
Last year SAC organized the largest and most diverse Lunchtime/After-School Programs – this year’s
options will not disappoint. Program details will be sent the first week of school, with programs starting
in October.
New Parents
For parents who are new to the school or for those that would like to hear more about SAC, we invite
you to join us at our informal SAC Meet & Greet being held on September 6th at 7:00pm upstairs at the
Starbucks on Avenue/Roe. This year our newly formed Parent Connections and Volunteer Committee
will be launching a “Parent Connections Program” where SAC will pair new Kindergarten families who
are seeking information, guidance and support during their first year at Ledbury Park EMS with returning
parents who are willing to answer questions and help new parents navigate through the year ahead.
SAC Meetings
We encourage you to join us at our monthly SAC meetings and get involved. The first meeting is being
held on Monday, September 17th at 7:00pm in the Staff Lounge. We also encourage you to fill out the
volunteer survey found in the right-hand column of the homepage at www.ledburypark.ca.
We look forward to working with you on our continued goal of making Ledbury the powerhouse school
within the TDSB. Have a great, safe and educational year!

Field Trips Field trips enhance curriculum and learning. If your child is scheduled for a field trip, you will receive a

payment is online. Subsidies are available, as needed, and can be discussed with your child’s teacher.
Daily Mandatory physical activity is scheduled for a minimum of 20 minutes per day as per Ontario Ministry of
Activity Education guidelines.
Lice Check A Toronto Public Health Nurse will check children from JK to Grade 5 for lice at the beginning of the school
year and again in winter. TDSB policy requires children to be free of lice or nits before they are readmitted
to class.
Page 5READING BUDDIES
Ledbury offers a program across grades that links older children with children in younger grades to enhance
reading skills.
TEAM SPORTS
Team sports are coached by TDSB Staff (occasionally assisted by TDSB-Certified Community Coaches). Teams
can compete with other schools within the district. Typically, most teams are open to children in Grades 5 to
8, except for Cross Country, which is open to children in Grades 2 to 8, and Track and Field, which is open to
children in Grades 3 to 8. Some team sports require that the children try out to qualify. The sports offered are
dependent upon teacher interest and availability.
DAYCARE
Ledbury Park Childcare is a school-based, non-profit daycare that offers a full day nursery school program
(7:30am to 6:00pm) as well as Before- and After-School care for children from JK to Grade 6 (7:30am to 8:40am;
3:15pm to 6:00pm). For more information on fees, curriculum, registration and availability, please contact
Christine File at 416-782-2539 or visit the website at www.ledburychildcare.ca.
LEDBURY PARK SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL (SAC)
Ledbury’s School Advisory Council or SAC is a self-governing, parent-run volunteer organization that represents the
interests of parents, families and care-givers of children at Ledbury Park E&MS. Ledbury’s SAC is led by an executive
committee typically composed of a Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. There are also various Committees
and Sub-Committees.
Some of the key functions provided by Ledbury’s SAC include:
• Governance of financial matters including budget management, and fund allocation
• Development and execution of fundraising initiatives
• Coordination of events/programs such as pizza lunch, lunch-time/after school activities
• Advocacy for safety, nutrition and improved learning resources
• Communication between SAC and Ledbury families
SAC holds formal meetings on a monthly basis throughout the school year. School Administration (Principal/Vice
Principal) are in attendance. These meetings provide an opportunity for the Executive and Committees to share
important information with parents/caregivers, as well as provide a forum for parents/caregivers to discuss relevant
issues pertaining to the school community. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to attend.
Tentative dates for this year’s SAC Meetings (held in the Staff Lounge between 7:00pm-8:30pm) are as follows:
September 17th October 17th November 14th December 12th January 16th
February 13th March 20th April 17th May 15th June 12th
Page 6SAC’s organization structure is as follows:
Further information regarding SAC’s mandate and organization can be found in the SAC By-laws, posted on the
SAC website at www.ledburypark.ca.
SAC VOLUNTEERS
The success of SAC’s fundraising and social events depend upon the generous time and efforts of the
volunteers who chair, plan and execute these events/initiatives. As the Fundraising and Social Events and
Spirit Committees are presently lacking Chairs/Co-Chairs, in order to ensure that the important
events/initiatives undertaken by these Committees continue, members of the SAC Executive will work
with volunteers to run individual fundraising and social events. Past events have included Winter
Wonderland, Movie Night, Cookie Dough, Skate Night, Lip Sync, Marketplace, and Ledbury Goes to the Blue
Jays to name a few. However, we are seeking fresh ideas. For those that may not have time to help plan
events, we are always in need of volunteers to help on the day of these events. Volunteering is an excellent
way to meet other parents and get involved in the school community. Once you register on the SAC website,
you can complete a Volunteer Survey. This will give us a sense of your interests and availability. At any time,
you can also email info@ledburypark.ca.
LEDBURY ONLINE COMMUNITY
Ledbury Park E&MS’ official webpage can be found at http://schools.tdsb.on.ca/ledbury/
The SAC website (www.ledburypark.ca) provides all the resources required to stay informed. The website
includes an easy-to-read calendar, news items, event updates, SAC meeting minutes, and links to important
Page 7outside resources. Please note that registration is required in order to access to all aspects of the site, as well
as to receive important SAC email communications. SAC also maintains the “Ledbury Park SAC” Facebook
page.
To help stay informed about both SAC and school-run events, SAC produces a bi-weekly e-newsletter, the
Ledbury Letter. By registering at www.ledburypark.ca you will be added to the SAC mailing list.
LUNCH TIME & AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Ledbury children have an opportunity to participate in SAC-organized extracurricular programs during lunch
and after school. The programs address a wide range of interests such as sports, the arts, and science and
technology. Information regarding these programs (sign-up, schedules, fees etc.) will be sent to those who
have registered on the SAC website www.ledburypark.ca. Subsidies are available upon request.
Page 8SAC EVENTS AT A GLANCE
More details about each event will be communicated through the SAC mailing list and at
www.ledburypark.ca as they approach. If you would like to volunteer for any of these events, please fill out
the volunteer survey found on the SAC homepage, or email parentconnections@ledburyparrk.ca.
