Mission Statement:
In an effort to create life-long learners, the staff at Westridge Elementary
[TUES & WED] Aug 3 & 4 School working closely with parents and community strives to realize
each child’s fullest potential in the areas of personal, social, intellectual,
New Student Registration emotional, and physical development.
8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Dear Westridge Families,
[THURSDAY] Aug 5
PTO Meeting @ 6:30 PM Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! I hope everyone had a wonderful
summer break. Over the summer, we had a few renovations done to the
building. New doors, ceiling tiles, and lights were installed throughout the
[THURSDAY] Aug 12 school. Although, those things may not sound overly exciting, they have
definitely helped to brighten up our classrooms and our hallways. We also
Open House/Curriculum Night opened up the cafeteria to provide some extra space for students at lunch.
5:30-6:00 Open House #1 (A-K) We do anticipate being able to use our cafeteria this year for lunch, so the
extra space will be helpful as we will continue to spread students out
6:00-6:15 Cleaning during the lunch period.
6:15-6:45 Open House #2 (L-Z)
We will be returning to some of the regular events and practices that we
6:45-7:00 Cleaning were unable to do last year. The first event is that we will be having our
Open House/Curriculum Night on Thursday, August 12th. The format will
be different, but we will be inviting families back into the school. You can
[TUESDAY] Aug 17 find more details later in the newsletter.
First Day of School!!
Walking and Reading Club will also be back this year. The school day
officially starts at 8:10 AM. This is the time that students will be allowed to
[THURSDAY] Aug 19 go to their classrooms. However, students can be dropped off starting at
7:55 AM to participate in either Walking or Reading Club. Both clubs are
Walking Club Starts 7:55-8:10 AM free and supervised by Westridge staff. There is no signup required.
Breakfast will be served in the morning starting at 7:35 AM.
[MONDAY] Sept 6
I would also like to welcome our new staff members to the Westridge
No School- Labor Day family. Abbi Wendt will be replacing Mrs. Fuller and teaching 2nd grade.
Mia Lincoln will be an addition to our special education teachers this year,
and Dani Moore will be our occupational therapist, replacing Julia Gaebler.
[TUESDAY] Sept 7 We are very excited to welcome these three talented teachers to our staff
PTO Meeting @ 6:30 PM this year. I know they will do an outstanding job.
I have provided more detailed information about the beginning of the
[WEDNESDAY] Sept 8 school year. However, if you have other questions you can always call the
school office at 402-289-2559 or email me at rbroshar@epsne.org.
Picture Day- All gradesRegistration:
Detailed registration information for returning students will be sent to you via email on August
2nd. New students to the district, including incoming kindergarten students, will already have registered
online. Returning student families will receive an email with information about how to use the PowerSchool
Parent Portal to access the registration process. If you do not receive the email from PowerSchool, or your
student no longer attends Elkhorn Public Schools, please contact Westridge Elementary at 402-289-2559 to
update your records. Teacher assignments will be available to families in Powerschool on Monday,
August 9th at 10:00 AM. All parents, new and returning, will need to login to Powerschool to find this
information.
Open House/Curriculum Night:
Open House/Curriculum Night is on Thursday, August 12th from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. In order to limit the
number of people in the building. Teachers will email information about the curriculum and grade level
expectations to families prior to the Open House. Then there will be two separate open house times for families
to meet their teachers and see their classrooms. The first open house time will be from 5:30 to 6:00 PM. This
open house time will be for families whose last names start with the letters A through K. The second open
house time will be from 6:15 to 6:45 PM. This open house time will be for families whose last names start with
the letters L through Z. There will be a break from 6:00 to 6:15 and 6:45 to 7:00 for cleaning. During the open
house students are encouraged to bring their school supplies.
First Day of School:
On the first two days of school, August 17th & 18th, students in grades 1st through 5th will be able to enter the
building at 7:55 AM. In order to maintain distancing, students will enter through the main doors when they
arrive and head directly to their classrooms. Classroom teachers will be waiting for students in their
classrooms. Additional Westridge staff will stationed throughout the building to assist students in finding the
correct classroom. The school day will start at 8:10 AM.
Kindergarten students should arrive at 9:00 AM. Kindergarten teachers will meet their students outside by the
main entrance. Students will be spread out as they line up waiting to enter the building. Then students will walk
into the building with their classroom teacher. This change was made last year, and it was helpful to our
students and families.
Arrival- Drop-off Procedures:
School breakfast will begin at 7:35 AM. All students are welcome to join us for breakfast. Students can be
dropped off in the pick-up/drop-off lane and use door #3 to enter the building. After, they are done with
breakfast, staff will assist in getting students to their classrooms. Breakfast will start on the first day of school.
Starting Thursday, August 19th, we have walking & reading club starting at 7:55 AM. Students can choose to
do either club and do not need to sign up ahead of time. Students participating in walking club will be directed
to the blacktop area by the playground. Students participating in reading club will use the main doors and go to
the media center. Both clubs will be supervised by Westridge Elementary staff members. At 8:10, students will
be dismissed to their classrooms.
Families may drop students off starting at 7:55 AM. Please see traffic map later in the newsletter for the traffic
flow in the drop-off/pick-up loop. When dropping off or picking up students, please be sure to pull to the lane
closest to the curb. You will need to pull all the way forward before stopping to drop off your child(ren). Pulling
all the way forward allows us to bring more vehicles into the drop-off/pick-up loop. Students should load and
unload on the passenger side of the vehicle. If you are wanting to walk your child down to the main doors, you
will need to park in the upper parking lot by the playground. Then you will need walk down with your child to
the main entrance.

building happenings, and weather-related school closings. To ensure receipt of these
updates, please check all relevant contact information including phone numbers and email
addresses in your parent PowerSchool account.
