Dear Parents and Students Music Staff 4
We are delighted to have this opportunity to welcome you to the wonderful world of
Perth College Music. The Performing Arts department provides a positive experience for Instrumental and Theory Tutors 4
all through the impact of music. Our Pre-K to Year 12 program is creative, challenging
and enjoyable, nurturing a life-long musical appreciation. We encourage personal Private Music Lessons 2020 5
development and the pursuit of excellence within a spiritual and caring community.
Students studying Music at Perth College benefit from 10 purpose-built practice rooms, Applying for Music Lessons 5
each with an upright piano, two well-equipped classrooms, a large rehearsal studio
(Dorothea Angus Studio - DAS) with full orchestral percussion, a 700-seat theatre (Judith Discontinuing Lessons 5
Cottier Theatre), four grand pianos, a harpsichord, three harps and a pipe organ. There
are currently more than 20 peripatetic instrumental tutors who provide individual

lessons on more than 20 different instruments. All Music students in the Senior School
have Sibelius 7 installed on their PLD(personal learning device).
Instrument Hire Fee 6
All students at Perth College from Pre-Kindergarten through to Year 7 study Music in the
classroom. The department also has a flourishing academic program from Years 8 to 12 Music Record Book 6
when the study of classroom Music becomes an option.
Perth College offers a wide range of co-curricular ensembles. This year, we are proud Missed Lessons 7
to continue our 11 - year relationship with Aquinas College. Students will have the
opportunity to participate in choirs, string orchestras, concert bands, jazz bands and Junior School Music Program 8
chamber groups. In the Junior School all students sing in a choir and perform in an
annual musical. Bands and orchestras are offered to students from Year 2 to Year 6. In

All students from Year 3 to Year 5 learn a string or band instrument in pairs. String General Information 9
lessons are also offered to Year 2 students, Year 6 students have the option to continue
learning their instrument. These lessons are covered by the School. Individual lessons Music Ensembles 10
sought by Junior School students are also offered and are charged in addition to school
fees. Please see the following pages for more information on Junior School Music.

Fees Missed Lessons
Fees for 2020 are as follows: School Commitment
30 - minute lesson - $40.00

Junior School Music Program Examinations – AMEB, ABRSM, Trinity or Guild
Students in Junior School Years 2 to 6 are offered instrumental lessons as part of the Private music students at Perth College are encouraged to sit AMEB, ABRSM, Trinity

Lessons and String and Band Ensemble are held each week and timetabled into the
school day.
Year 6
Students in Year 6 may choose to continue learning their instrument as part of the
Junior School Music Program. These lessons are offered as individual lessons and
are timetabled throughout the school day. A condition of receiving these lessons
is that students will paritcipate in either Sinfonietta or Junior School Band, both
rehearsing 7.30 am to 8.20 am each Friday.
Students who have previously changed instruments in Years 4 or 5 have opted
out of the Music Program and are therefore not eligible for the individual lessons
offered in Year 6. They may continue their lessons as private students and the
current lesson fee will apply.

Music Ensembles Processes and Procedures
• All students wishing to commence instrumental, vocal or theory lessons must complete

Conditions of Instrument Hire
• A limited number of instruments are available for hire.
• Please indicate on the ‘Lesson Application’ Form if you would like to hire an
instrument. This does not automatically entitle a student to an instrument.
• Instruments will be allocated in order of receipt of applications and therefore
Perth College cannot guarantee that all requests for instruments will be met.
• Any student hiring a Perth College instrument is required to use that instrument
in one of the School music ensembles or as directed by the Director of Performing
Arts.
• If a student is not involved in a school music ensemble they may not hire from the
School and will be expected to purchase their own instrument.
• Cost of hiring an instrument is $60 per term or part thereof. Hire costs will be
charged to your account each term. No charge is levied on the Junior School Music
program (first year), scholarship or bursary students.
• Students are required to purchase their own reeds, strings, valve oil, water spray
bottles, rosin, books and other accessories.
• ALL instruments are to be stored in the secure Opus storeroom while at school
and should not be left at school overnight, on weekends or during holidays.
• Students are responsible for any damages (deliberate or accidental) to their hired
instrument. Students/parents will pay for the cost of all instrumental repairs. It is
the responsibility of the School that instruments hired to students will initially be
in good condition.
• In the event an instrument is damaged beyond repair, lost or stolen, Perth College
reserves the right to determine whether or not the instrument will need to be
replaced new for old. All additional costs incurred by the School as a consequence
of the student’s activities will be charged to the parent’s account.
