Year 10 Options run for one semester (half year) each except Music, French and Te Reo Maori. These

Media Studies Technology Materials Languages Te Reo Maori*
Music* Technology Textiles Sports Performance
Visual Art
Option courses will only run if there is sufficient student interest and there is available staffing.
* Languages and Music - Selecting a Year 10 Language or Music option is important if students wish to take
these subjects in the Senior School.
We will attempt to provide students with their first choice, but due to numbers we sometimes need to use
back-up choices.
Options forms will be distributed separately and will be completed at home, signed by a parent/caregiver
then collected at school by your child’s Admin teacher.
Choosing Options
It is important for students to choose options that they are interested in and want to learn. Gaining a broad
education in the Middle School is advisable before increased subject specialisation in the Senior School
(Year 11-13).
Good reasons for choosing options
I am interested in learning more
The option learning area may be of use for future learning in this area
(This is especially important for languages)
I have enjoyed learning in this area this year
Poor reasons for choosing options
My friends are taking an option
A particular teacher is /or isn’t teaching the option
I can’t think of anything else to do
It is important that students talk to parents/caregivers before selecting options. Students and their
parents/caregivers are encouraged to attend the Subject Pathways Expo in the Theatre from 4.30-5.30pm
on Thursday 8 August to speak with subject specialist teachers about subject choices and Senior School
students about their learning experiences.
