PRELUDE “Come As You Are” by David Crowder, Matt Maher & Ben Glover
                             Good Shepherd Praise Band

CALL TO WORSHIP AND THANKSGIVING FOR THE WORD
L: We gather in the name of the Father,  Son, and Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
L: Praise and thanks to you, holy God,
for by your Word you made all things:
   you spoke light into darkness,
   called forth beauty from chaos,
   and brought life into being.
For your Word of life, O God,
C: we give you thanks and praise.
L: By your Word you called your people Israel
to tell of your wonderful gifts:
   freedom from captivity,
   water on the desert journey,
   a pathway home from exile,
   wisdom for life with you.
For your Word of life, O God,
C: we give you thanks and praise.
L: Through Jesus, your Word made flesh,
you speak to us and call us to witness:
   forgiveness through the cross,
life to those entombed by death,
the way of your self-giving love.
For your Word of life, O God,
C: we give you thanks and praise.

                                                                                      3
L: Send your Spirit of truth, O God;
   rekindle your gifts within us:
renew our faith, increase our hope, and deepen our love,
for the sake of a world in need.
Faithful to your Word, O God,
   draw near to all who call on you;
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord,
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
   be honor and glory forever.
C: Amen. Thanks be to God.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

                                        WORD
God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, song, and prayers.

READING Ephesians 2:11-22
R: The Reading is from Ephesians, the 2nd Chapter.
11
Remember that at one time you Gentiles by birth, called “the uncircumcision” by
those who are called “the circumcision” — a physical circumcision made in the flesh by
human hands — 12remember that you were at that time without Christ, being aliens
from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having
no hope and without God in the world. 13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were
far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14For he is our peace; in his flesh
he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the
hostility between us.

                                                                                         5
15
He has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might
create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, 16and
might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to
death that hostility through it. 17So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far
off and peace to those who were near; 18for through him both of us have access in one
Spirit to the Father. 19So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are
citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, 20built upon the
foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.
21
In him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the
Lord; 22in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God.
R: The word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.

SONG OF THE WORD
THY WORD Amy Grant/Michael W. Smith
Refrain
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Verse 1
When I feel afraid, think I’ve lost my way,
Still you’re there right beside me.
And nothing will I fear, as long as you are near.
Please be near me to the end. Refrain
Verse 2
I will not forget your love for me and yet,
My heart forever is wandering.
Jesus be my guide, and hold me to your side,
And I will love you to the end.
Final Refrain
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
You’re the light unto my path.

GOSPEL Mark 6:30-34,53-56
P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the 6th Chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
30
The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught.
31
He said to them, “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.”
For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32And they
went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. 33Now many saw them going
and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived
ahead of them. 34As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for
them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them
many things.
53
When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored the boat.
54
When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized him, 55and rushed about
that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was.
56
And wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the
marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and
all who touched it were healed.
P: The gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMON Pastor Kate Costa

APOSTLES’ CREED
L: Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith.
C: I believe in God, the Father almighty,
       creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
        born of the virgin Mary,
        suffered under Pontius Pilate,
        was crucified, died, and was buried;
        he descended to the dead.
        On the third day he rose again;
        he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
                                                       (continued on next page)

                                                                                    7
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
       the holy catholic church,
       the communion of saints,
       the forgiveness of sins,
       the resurrection of the body,
       and the life everlasting. Amen.

                                THANKSGIVING
We respond to the Word through our gifts.

ALL THE PEOPLE SAID AMEN Matt Maher, Paul Moak, Trevor Morgan
Verse 1
You are not alone if you are lonely.
When you're feel afraid, you're not the only.
We are all the same, in need of mercy,
to be forgiven and be free.
It's all you got to lean on,
but thank God, it's all you need.
Chorus
And all the people said, “Amen.” Whoa, oh.
And all the people said, “Amen.”
Give thanks to the Lord, for His love never ends.
And all the people said, “Amen.”
Verse 2
If you're rich or poor, well, it don't matter.
Weak or strong, you know love is what we're after.
We're all broken, but we're all in this together.
God knows we stumble and fall,
and He so loved the world,
He sent His son to save us all. Chorus
Bridge
Blessed are the poor in spirit who are torn apart.
Blessed are the persecuted and the pure in heart.
Blessed are the people hungry for another start,
for theirs is the Kingdom,
the Kingdom of God. Chorus x2

SENDING
L: Go in peace. You are the body of Christ.
C: Thanks be to God.
