Rainbow Hall became the name of the old building when Pearl
Rainbow gained ownership in about 1911. Much of the first floor was
used as a residence, and it also became the voting place for the people of
Egypt. Sunday school, musical performances, and dances kept Rainbow
Hall bustling with activity. Damon’s Orchestra of Rochester performed for
what may have been the largest crowd the building ever held, a 1917
dance for the benefit of the employees of the Egypt Canning Company.
Eighty couples were in attendance. Five years later, the early country
church was but a memory, lost to fire.

                               Crescent Trail safe
Most people would think it is crazy to send a 79-year-old and an 82-year-old
up a hill with a chainsaw to cut up a fallen tree.
Not Jim Unckless, who is Trail Boss and Vice President of the Crescent Trail
Hiking Association. He leads the Silver Foxes, who work year-around to keep the
Crescent Trail clear and clean for Perinton residents.
There is no task too tough for the Foxes. Every Wednesday morning from April
until late in the Fall, the group of about 20 retired volunteers work on mowing
about 20 miles of the 35-plus trails in Perinton.
Each trail gets mowed 3 or 4 times a season, with 4 mowers working at a
time. It takes about 6 weeks to make one pass and then they start all over again.
In the Winter, the Foxes patrol the trails and make sure the bridges are safe
and no trees have fallen or are about to fall.
“It is a labor of love for these guys,” Unckless said. “My job is to just make sure
we know what we need to do and we can do it safely.”
CTHA President Dave Wideman believes Unckless is underplaying what he

Wideman said. “They do incredible work. It is amazing what they do and they One Christmas Eve, the Foxes discovered a tree had fallen on a bridge and was

                Working to be more Inclusive
At Perinton Recreation and Parks and the Town of Perinton, we are striving to serve all people in our community
by becoming increasingly accessible and by providing an inclusive environment in which to recreate.
To meet this need, we are committed to providing assistance and reasonable accommodations to individuals
with disabilities to access services and programs offered by Rec & Parks. Several department staff are trained
and certified as Inclusion Assessors and work in partnership with Rochester Accessible Adventures (RAA).
Steps we are taking to become more inclusive include:
  1. Using image descriptions and alt text on our social media posts.
  2. Reviewing, updating, and communicating our program and facility policies on service, emotional
support, and companion animals. Also our policy on Care Attendants, Food Accommodation, ASL
Interpreter Offerings, Quiet Rooms, and available Adaptive Equipment.
  3. Having all part-time clerical staff take the Inclusion Ambassador Training (3-hour course).
  4. We hosted an inclusive interactive Pickleball session and an inclusive interactive percussion event in
July. Keep an eye out for more inclusive events.
We encourage you to reach out to us with any questions, concerns, or to discuss accommodations that we might make to help your experience with us be more positive.
Please contact Inclusion Coordinator Kelly Attridge with any questions at (585) 223-5050 or kattridge@perinton.org.
