Immaculate Conception Parish Mission and Forty Hours March 20-22, 2022 “TESTING AND TRIUMPH” IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE In both the Old and New Testaments, the number forty is frequently used to signify a time of both testing and triumph for the People of God. Israel wandered for forty years in the desert before entering the promised land. Jesus Himself entered the desert for for- ty days before beginning his public ministry and emerged victorious over the tempta- tions of the evil one to turn away from His mission as the Savior of the world. Through the forty days of Lent, the Church calls her members to ongoing conversion of life by means of the spiritual disciplines of prayer, fasting, and the works of mercy. Like Israel in the desert, our hearts are to put the test. Like Jesus in the desert, we can emerge victorious because of Him who has conquered the trial and invites us to share in His triumph. This Mission will be presented in both English and Spanish. Our presenter is Dr. Ximena DeBroeck, PhD, STL. Born in Ecuador, Dr. DeBroeck obtained her Doctorate in Systematic and Biblical Theology at Duquesne University in 2017. She is recently served as the Director of Catechetical and Pastoral Formation and is presently the Liaison for Pastoral Associate Formation for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Since 2015, Dr. DeBroeck has worked in pastoral formation and as a professor of sacred scripture at St. Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore, and Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD. Her areas of study focus on the Old Testament, the theme of Sacrifice, on the Sacraments, and on Evangelization and Catechesis. See schedule on next page 2 2
