A MOTHERS LOVE IS UNCONDITIONAL
A mother is a selfless, loving human who works hard to make sure that her child is well-equipped with
the knowledge, skills and abilities to make his/her a competent human being. A mother is a protector,
teacher, disciplinarian and friend.
Mother’s Day is an annual event celebrated every year to honour and respect a mother. It is a modern
time celebration which was originated in the North America in order to honour the mothers. It is cel-
ebrated to salute the motherhood as well as increasing the maternal bonds to children.
Mother’s Day History
Although the custom of setting aside a day to honour mothers has ancient roots, our observance of
Mother’s Day originated in 1907 with the efforts of a devoted daughter, Anna M. Jarvis of Philadel-
phia, who conceived the idea of an annual nationwide celebration. The public and the press quickly
embraced the idea and villages, towns, cities and states soon began unofficial Mother’s Day obser-
vances. On May 8, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second
Sunday in May as Mother’s Day and within a few years, the idea gained worldwide prominence.
Mother’s Day Celebration
There are various ways to show an appreciation for mothers and mother figures on Mother’s Day.
Some people give cards, gifts or flowers to their mothers, some prefer to dine out and some prefer
to spend the whole day with their mothers. Whatever the way, the soul aim of this day is to thank the
mothers for everything they have done and make them feel very special. It is time to think about all
the pains and hardships a mother went through in bringing up children and
all the sacrifices she made so that they lead a better life. Mother’s Day is
the time to say a big thank you to mother for all this and for being a
constant guiding force in our lives.
