This past year has certainly increased our appreciation for staying active and spending
time outdoors. Fresh-air outings can not only shake cabin fever but also boost health,
thanks to vitamin D (from sunshine) and endorphins (those feel-good brain chemicals)
from exercise.
Of course, winter weather activities require a bit of extra preparation.
Depending on the forecast and where you go, remember to dress in
layers, including something water-resistant on the top. You can always
shed a layer if necessary. Pay attention to your head, hands and feet,
where heat escapes, and protect your eyes with sunglasses or goggles.
If you’re using any gear or equipment, test them long before your
outing. Kids, especially, may have outgrown something they wore last
year. Do you remember how all the belts, snaps, straps and buckles
work? You won’t want to waste time fiddling when you get to your
destination (if you are taking a longer road trip, make sure you have an
emergency kit in the car).
Finally, check the destination’s website or call the facility, both as
you’re planning and immediately before you go. You’ll want to be clear
on the COVID-19 guidelines, such as face coverings, reservations and
limited hours.
Now pick one of these NorCal activities and get moving. 2.

Getting a flu shot
just got easier
It’s more important than ever to reduce the
spread of respiratory illness, such as the flu.
One reason is that if you get the flu, it may put
you at higher risk for COVID-19. Don’t delay in
getting a flu shot because it takes about two
weeks to build up antibodies.
WHA is making it easier than ever to get
your zero-cost* flu shot by offering TWO
choices to get your vaccine:
1. Call your primary care physician to check
on when and where to get your flu vaccine.
2. Now, flu shots are covered at participating
pharmacies** for anyone 9 years of age
   and older.
Immunization is our best protection against
vaccine-preventable diseases. It is much easier
to prevent a harmful disease than to treat one.
For more information, see cdc.gov/vaccines.

*Coverage for WHA services depends on plan To learn about flu vaccines and other preventive
and eligibility at the time of service.
