Appointment and Election of the IGU Executive Committee

According to Article 9.1 in the Articles of Association (AoA), the IGU Council shall every three years
appoint a new Executive Committee (EXC).
The EXC governs IGU in accordance with the aims and means approved by the Council and represents
the interests of IGU in all matters.
According to Article 9 of the AoA - there are four different groups of members in the EXC:

1. Appointment of the IGU officers
The President, the Vice President, the Immediate Past President, the Chair and the Vice Chair of the
Coordination Committee are automatically appointed as members.

2. Appointment of representatives from Charter members responsible for IGU
   Committees
The 11 Charter members were elected by the IGU Council in October 2014 in Berlin. Consequently, they
had to nominate an individual representative to be endorsed by the IGU Council in Paris, France.
Following individual nominations have been received:

3. Election of candidates nominated by Charter Members.
These candidates are nominated from Charter members not already represented in the EXC as per items
1) and 2) above, and where the Charter members have informed the President that their candidates are
able and willing to accept such a responsibility.
This process makes it possible for Charter members to qualify for active participation in the EXC without
having a Chair position in the IGU Committees. This also gives the IGU Council the opportunity to elect
members offering the EXC the best possible global balance and completing the EXC structure with
participation from all the regions in the world, if this has not already been achieved.
Since more than six Charter members have sought election, a secret voting procedure will take place
during the IGU Council meeting in Paris, France on 1 June. According to article 9.1 AoA six
representatives shall be elected from the Charter members.
