On behalf of the United States Tennis Association, it is my pleasure to
welcome you to the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex and the 2019
USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship. This one-of-a-kind event
celebrates the culmination of the 2019 Tennis On Campus season, and it
brings together hundreds of student-athletes throughout the country to
compete for the title of national champion.
Tennis On Campus is one of the USTA’s most popular and successful
initiatives, providing thousands of players who do not participate in a varsity
tennis program with an opportunity to get involved—and stay involved—in
the sport that they love. Tennis On Campus has helped not only to grow
our game, but also to enhance the lives of those who participate in it. It’s a
fun, social program that has produced a whole new generation of players
who have discovered the countless opportunities and the host of benefits
that tennis provides; opportunities and benefits that will stay with them
throughout their lives.
Since its inception in 2000, participation in the Tennis On Campus program
has grown significantly from a few thousand players to more than 40,000
players competing at more than 700 colleges and universities throughout the
country. Tennis On Campus has been great for tennis—and equally great for
the individuals who participate in it. The excitement, enthusiasm and fun on
display here this week is perfectly reflective of what Tennis on Campus is all
about. Expect lots of great competition and loads of great fun; all essential
ingredients of one great sport.
I want to thank the USTA’s valuable partners in this event, including NIRSA
and World TeamTennis and offer a special thank you to everyone here at
Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex for all of your help and hospitality in
putting together this wonderful event. And of course, thanks to all of the
USTA volunteers and staff who have made Tennis On Campus the success
story that it has become.
WELCOME FROM USTA
With three days of thrilling competition and unbridled team spirit, the
2019 USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship promises to be an
unforgettable event, both for players and fans alike. I congratulate all the
competing teams, and I thank you all for your support of Tennis On Campus.
Enjoy the competition!
Patrick J. Galbraith
USTA Chairman and President
