A FEWWORDSABOUTOURCOLLEGE
Krishnagar Women’s College was established in the year 1958 for the purpose of
promoting Women’s Education in and around Krishnagar. From its inception this College
has been performing its duties with utmost efficiency. The Institution not only boasts of a
beautiful campus, but also has library facilities, Network Resource Centre, expansive
playground, Women’s Study Cell, Gymnasium and attractive sports facilities. Now the
College is efficiently administered by the Administrator and the Principal.

The College has been accredited by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation
Council) in 2016 with B+ grade. It is the second College in Nadia district in general and
only Women’s College which has been accredited in 2016. The college is trying to cater
to the needs of the students and offer facilities for their enhancement of knowledge and
enrichment in every field.

The College was previously affiliated to the University of Calcutta. In the year 2000 it
came under the aegis of the University of Kalyani.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME:

The college has been running a unit of N.S.S successfully through the past few years.
Students are encouraged to join N.S.S.

WOMEN’S STUDY CELL:

A women study cell comprising of the full time teaching & Non-teaching Staff of the
college is actively engaged in doing social awareness programme, survey and various
other works relating to the womenofsurroundingareas.

NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTALAWARENESS CAMPAIGN:

The college organizes NEAC every year from 2009 with the help of school of
fundamental research, Kolkata. The students participate at this campaign actively. This
awareness Campaign is organized by the financial assistance of Environment and Forest
Department, Govt. of India.

 SPORTS FACILITIES:

 The college has its own play ground, named Principal Dipti Bose Krirangan, within the
 campus. There are arrangements for indoor games as well as outdoor games. The college
 is also equipped with certain sports materials suitable for women. An annual sport of the
 college is normally held in the month of December every year. Students also participate in
 the Nadia district Non-Government Inter College Athletic Championship, State level Inter
 Non Govt. College meet and Kalyani University Annual Athletics Meet that are held
 every year.

 COLLEGE GYMNASIUM:

 A Gymnasium for students with modern equipments (CYCLING, RIDING, TWISTER
 etc.) has been set up in 2004 within the college campus. Students are encouraged to join
 the Gym. regularly for good health and beautiful physique.

 HEALTHCHECKUP:

 College provides the service of regular health check up of the students by specialist
 doctors. If necessary, students are advised for further treatment and medical tests as
 required.

 VISITINGLECTURE:

 The Honours Departments of the college arrange visiting lectures by eminent faculty
 members of universities and other colleges on topics of importance at regular intervals.

 GENERALAWARNESS SEMINAR:

 The college has provision for regular seminars and interactive sessions on topics of
 General Awareness to promote the knowledge of students in matters of current relevance.

 STUDENTS’ SEMINAR:

 The Honours Departments organize seminars by students on topics from their syllabus.
 Students are encouraged toselect topics and speak on thembefore others.

 LIBRARYFACILITIES:

 The college has well equipped library facilities for the students–central as well as
 departmental.

 INTERNET FACILITIES:
The college has a UGC Network Resource Centre where students can avail of internet
facility for academic purpose under the guidance of teachers.

GUARDIAN MEET:

The college organizes regular Parent-Teachers Meet to discuss academic and other
related matters and seek suggestions & proposals fromthe guardians.

Anti-raggingSteps- If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the
accused student will have to explain and if her explanation is not found satisfactory, the
authority may/can expel her from the institution.

FREESTUDENTSHIPANDSCHOLARSHIPS

       1. Free studentship and half free studentships are sanctioned to students passing
          the Board, Council or University Examinations with first and second divisions.
          Selection is made from among such applicants strictly on the grounds of merit
          cum poverty and on the basis of the results of the examinations of the College.
       2. “Renukarani Memorial Scholarships” of Rs.288/- per year is awarded to one

          meritorious and needy student of each 1st, 2 and 3 year passing out with 1 or
          2nd Division in the Higher Secondary Examination from any school of Nadia

          District for 1 year students and for 2 & 3 year students on the basis of results
          of the University Examination of Part I & Part II (Arts or Science) from this
          college and who are not in receipt of any Government Scholarship or stipend.
       3. A scholarship of Rs.120/- per year, named as Kumari Tapashi Bhowmik Smriti
          Scholarship is awarded every year to a student of the 1st year, not in receipt of
          any other scholarship or stipend, ona merit-cum-means basis.
       4. One prize each for the students of Part I, Part II and Part III, who secures
          highest marks in the aggregate in the Science General Course.
       5. One prize for each student of Part I, Part II and Part III who secures the highest
          marks in the different Honours subjects provided she obtains a minimum of
          40% marks in her respective Honours subjects and 30% in all pass subjects.
       6. Bibha Chatterjee memorial Gold Medal is awarded to the student securing
          highest marks in B.A. Part III Honours Examination in Philosophy.

In the session 2017-2018 students will be admitted to the following courses if they
pass the H.S. Examination conducted by the H.S. Council, West Bengal or
equivalent (10 +2) Examinations.
A) B.A. (Three Year Degree General Course) – First Year.
B) B.A. (Three Year Degree Honours Course) – First Year.
C) B.Sc. (Three Year Degree General Course) – First Year.
D) B.Sc. (Three Year Degree Honours Course) – First Year.
COURSES OFFERED
                      THREE-YEAR DEGREE GENERAL COURSE:
Students getting admission to B.A (Three Year Degree) in the General Course can take
any three of the following subjects:

   a) Bengali or English or Sanskrit
   b) Political Science

   c) Economics or History
   d) Philosophy or Geography
Students getting admission to B.Sc (Pure Science) (Three Year Degree) in the General
Course can take the following subjects:
a) Physics b) Chemistry c) Mathematics

                 THREE-YEAR DEGREE HONOURS COURSES
The College provides Honours in Bengali, Sanskrit, English, Philosophy, History and
Political Science in the Arts stream and Economics, Geography, Mathematics and
Chemistry in the Science Stream. Students taking Honours in different subjects will be
permitted to take any two of the following subjects:

RESTRICTIONS ON CHOICE OF SUBJECTS
No student will be allowed to take Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics in the B.Sc
Examination if she has not passed with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at the H.S or
Equivalent (10+2) Examination of Other Boards.
No student will be allowed to take Geography (Honours or General) unless she has passed
in the H.S or equivalent (10+2) Examination of Other Boards with Geography. Passing
with Economics Geography will not qualify a student for taking Geography Honours or
General.
A candidate may be allowed to take up Honours in Philosophy if the student has studied
Psychology as a related subject in her previous qualifying Examination.
Students will be permitted to take Honours in Economics only if they pass with
Mathematics in the H.S Examination or equivalent (10+2) Examination of Other Boards.
A candidate who appeared but could not obtain pass marks in any requisite subject at the
previous qualifying Examination will not be allowed to take up that subject in the Degree
Course.

A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject must have obtained:
   i)      A minimum of 45% marks in aggregate and 55% marks in the subject or related
          subject at the previous qualifying examination,

                                                or
   ii)       50% marks in aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the
             previous qualifying examination,

                                              or
   iii)      55% marks in aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in her
             previous qualifying examination provided all other clauses are satisfied.
   However, candidates belonging to the Schedule Caste or Schedule Tribe Community
   taking up Honours Course of study shall enjoy 5% relaxation in marks in (I), (II) &
   (III) above, as the case may be.

                               ADMISSION PROCEDURE

ADMISSION WILL BE STRICTLY ON THE BASIS OF MERIT. The admission
process in this Institution is absolutely transparent.

An Honours candidate is eligible to apply in three Honours subjects in one
Admission form. If a candidate is willing to be considered for General course she will
have to submit separate Admission form specified for the purpose.
01. B.A./B.Sc. Honours Merit list will be prepared by taking the sum total of best scored
    five subjects + marks obtained in concerned subject or related subject.

02. B.A./ B.Sc. General Merit list will be prepared by taking the sum total of best scored
    five subjects but for B.A. General with Geography as one subject the Merit list will
    be prepared by taking sum total of best scored five subjects (minimum of at least 200
    Marks) + marks obtained in Geography.

03. At the time of Merit Point Calculation for students passed in previous year (before
    2017) Marks will be deducted @ 2% from Total of best five subjects then marks of
    Honours Subject will be added with that for Honours Course and @ 2% from the best
    of five subjects in General Course.
04. In case of other Boards/ Councils, a candidate shall have to pass in five recognized
    subjects, of which one shall be English, of full marks not being less than100 each. A
    candidate passing in four subjects shall not be eligible for admission.

05. Candidates passing Higher Secondary Examination from Vocational stream
    conducted by the West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training
    or any other equivalent board/ council are eligible for admission only in General
    courses provided that the candidate must have passed in 5 (five) recognized subjects,
    of which one shall be English, in the previous qualifying examination.

06. Reservation as per Government rules.

07. All original documents ( Madhyamic Admit Card & Certificate, H.S. Marksheet),
    two passport size recent photographs along with the application form with money
    receipt/Bank challan must be produced on the date of admission counselling.

08. S.C./S.T./OBC-A/OBC-B Candidates should furnish Caste Certificate issued by the
    competent authority (Sub Divisional Officer of the Sub-Division and others as
    declared by competent authority) without which application will not be entertained
    on the date of admission counselling.

09. If one is absent at the time of counselling, she will not be entertained later on.

10. If any vacancy falls in any Honours subject or B.A./B.Sc. General course vacancy
    will be filled up from the merit listed candidates.

11. If one is admitted to other College, she should get her previous admission cancelled.

12. Admission of a transferred candidate is allowed provided:

      i)     Last date of admission as laid down by the University is not over.

      ii)    Seat is available.
iii)      Subject combination matches.

iv)       Production of a Transfer Certificate from the Principal of the college in
          which she studied last is must.

                     IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

•      Students who have passed an Examination of any foreign Board or University
       must produce migration certificate, pending which their admission will be
       provisional. Nostudentadmitted provisionallycanbe givenatransfer certificate
       till her migration is sanctioned.

•      Before admission, a student will ensure that her choice of subjects is strictly in
       conformity with the fore mentioned regulations.

•      No change of elective subjects will be permitted after two weeks from the date
       of commencement of lectures at the beginning of the session.

• Any change of address of students must be immediately notified to the
   College Office.

•      Students must obey the rules of the college, which may be in force from time
       to time.

•      All students are expected to participate in the co-curricular and extra academic
       activities of the college.

•      Transfer certificate will not be issued before expiry of one month from the date
       of admission. Transfer certificate will be issued after 7 clear working days
       from the date of payment of T.C. fee.

• The fees of the College will be notified in the College Notice Board.
   Nonpayment of fees within the due dates will lead to the name of the student
   being struck off from the register of the College. Such a student will have to
   seek readmission, if she desires to continue in the College. All arrear fees will
   have to be paid in one installment only. No student will be allowed to pay her
   fees more than once a month.

•      The students will be treated as regular students on the basis of clearance of
       their college fees as per rule.
•    Students desirous of withdrawing their names from College, without
             praying for transfer certificates, may do so by submitting applications to
             the Principal/Teacher-in-Charge failing which they are liable to be
             charged up to the end of the session.

        • Attendance rule:

             •   A candidate shall be considered as collegiate if she has attended 75% or
                 above lectures delivered.

             • A candidate shall be considered as Non-collegiate if she has attended above
                 60% but below 75% lectures delivered.

             • A candidate shall be considered discollegiate if she has attended below
                 60% lectures delivered.

College authority observes this attendance rule strictly.
       • The terms and conditions may be altered or added to according to needs.

COLLEGE EXAMINATION:

The college will conduct an Annual Test Examination for Honours and General papers in
the following schedule.

   •        Part-I Test Examination: Middle of April

   •        Part-II Test Examination: Middle of March

   •        Part-III Test Examination: 1stweek of February.

   •         Absence from college class tests or Examination without permission is a break
             of discipline and will render the student liable to such disciplinary action as
             Principal/Teacher-in-Charge may consider fit.
