*S5M-16637 Claudia Beamish: Towards an Independent Palestinian State, a Scottish
Proposal—That the Parliament notes calls for action towards an independent Palestinian state;
recognises Britain's historical responsibilities in Palestine and Israel and notes the view that British
engagement is needed for a better future; acknowledges Scotland’s role in influencing Britain to
act for true equality, promoting a policy based on those universal values that Britain helped
enshrine in international law; commends the work of the Balfour Project in advancing the
education of the British public in the history of Britain’s involvement in the Middle East, and notes
calls, including from people in the South Scotland region, for six measures to be taken, which are
an end to the closure of Gaza, freedom of worship for all believers, respect for the rule of law,
accountability, recognition of the State of Palestine alongside Israel and a UK Government
commitment to defend the fundamental rights of both peoples.

Collaborate—That the Parliament welcomes the collaborative work between the National Autistic
Society Scotland (NAS) and the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS) to make its 2019 programme
of performances autism-friendly; understands that NAS has provided a dedicated autism
awareness training staff team to ensure that autistic people and their families attending NTS
performances feel at ease; notes the announcement of work placements with NTS for participants
in its CashBack for Communities Moving Forward employment project; commends both
organisations on their efforts to make live performance accessible for all, and wishes them and
their work placement employees continued success.

notes that this is one of the biggest annual sporting events in the Garioch area's calendar;

spent a lot of time in Inverurie and is buried in Fyvie churchyard; notes that the play will be written
by the professional writer Alan Bissett, with music and lyrics by Ashley Forbes, and directed by
Rhona Mitchell; understands that the commission is entitled Mr Francis and the Village of Secrets
and will be performed by 27 young people; notes that the piece will be a part of the Garioch
Theatre Festival in Inverurie and will be touring the north east and Aberdeen later in the summer,

Diversification Award at the 2019 Scottish Rural Awards on 21 March; notes its dedication to
creating innovative and nutritious produce from its own 2,500-acre arable farm and other local
suppliers, as well as producing seasonal fruit and vegetables and deli products; understands that
the farm was praised for its "diversification, uniqueness and continual reinvestment that has kept
this family business at the forefront of farming in the north east of Scotland’, and wishes it

them; understands that the club has established six new teams that are supporting local boys in

Barnardo’s Scotland, on being awarded a £10,060 grant from the Scottish Children’s Lottery to
support its Fund with Friends group; notes that the weekly social group for young disabled people
aged from 12 to 19 will be able to continue thanks to this funding; thanks all at Barnardo’s
Scotland for establishing this local youth project which offers opportunities for young people to
enjoy new experiences and develop important life skills, while making new friends and having fun,
and commends the work of all the volunteers involved in running the group.

*S5M-16659 Stuart McMillan: Stepwell’s Cook School Receives £99,000 Grant—That the
Parliament congratulates a Greenock cook school on receiving a grant of £99,000 to continue
helping some of Inverclyde’s most vulnerable people into work; understands that Stepwell, an
employability charity in Inverclyde that runs cafes locally, has received the funding from the
Scottish Government and The Hunter Foundation’s innovation fund to help expand its range of
services, creating five new jobs; appreciates that the Cabinet Secretary for Communities and
Local Government visited the social enterprise to see its work in action and was treated to a two-
course lunch by some of the current cook school trainees; believes that Stepwell being only one of
six organisations in Scotland to benefit from The Hunter Foundation’s innovation fund emphasises
how important its work is in retraining and upskilling people to help them find secure, long-term
employment; thanks everyone involved at the social enterprise for their dedication to the local
community, and wishes them and all the cook school trainees every success.

to draw people's attention to those who live with the condition; understands that an estimated
47,000 people in Scotland and 700,000 overall in the UK have autism; notes that the week aims to
educate people about the condition and make the world a friendlier place for autistic
people; understands that NAS Scotland research suggests that, although 99% of people have
heard of autism, only 15% of autistic people feel that the public understands it,
and congratulates all who plan to take part in activities across Scotland to raise awareness and
funds as part of the week, including the 80 participating in a sponsored walk around Glasgow.

congratulates The Coming Home Centre on receiving £500 from the Asda Foundation; notes that
centre, which is in Govan, is a drop-in centre for Armed Forces' veterans and serving military
personnel in the community; understands that it provides tea, coffee and a daily hot meal free of
charge to veterans; considers that eating a hot meal together is an activity that most veterans can
identify with and relate back to their service experiences, and acknowledges that the charity also
works with veterans at the point of needing assistance with issues such as mental and physical
health, homelessness, housing, pensions, benefits support, employment and training, woodwork
and bike maintenance workshops, adventurous activities, vans for furniture uplift, removal or
recycling, friendship and camaraderie.
