View this email in your browser CDC MASK RECOMMENDATIONS: JULY 27 Today, Tuesday July 27, The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended that fully vaccinated people begin wearing masks indoors again in places with high COVID transmission rates, to help prevent the spread of the delta variant and protect others. If you haven't been vaccinated yet, please find a vaccine here: https://vaccinelocator.doh.wa.gov/
King County Masking Guidance The health officers of King, Pierce, Snohomish, Kitsap, Clallam, Jefferson, San Juan, and Grays Harbor counties have joined together to pass on their best public health advice to protect you, your family, and our communities. We recommend all residents wear facial coverings when in indoor public settings where the vaccination status of those around you is unknown. This step will help reduce the risk of COVID-19 to the public, including customers and workers, help stem the increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in many parts of the state and decrease the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant. Vaccinations are our best defense against COVID- 19 and are safe, effective, and readily available for everyone age 12 and over. Please get yours immediately if you are not already vaccinated. View the joint statement PDF and updated mask directive PDF.
Public Health - Seattle & King County Indoor Masking Directive - updated to reflect new guidance that strongly recommends King County residents 5 years and older, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks in indoor public settings. Washington State already requires unvaccinated people to wear masks in indoor public settings, although in stores and other public spaces there is no practical way to know who is and is not vaccinated. For this reason, universal masking is a simple, effective, and reliable way to help us all stay safer as we monitor the current increasing trends. Get your COVID-19 Vaccine The COVID-19 vaccine is available to people 12 years and older. Visit Vaccine Locator to find and schedule an appointment. Homebound and need a COVID-19 vaccine? Fill out a secure online form to let us know if you or someone you know is homebound. WA State Dept. of Health will connect individuals to available County and/or State Mobile Vaccine Teams. City of Seattle Eviction Moratorium Extended through Sept 30, 2021 Governor Inslee announced an extension of the statewide eviction moratorium through September 30, 2021 that covers residential, nonprofit, and small business tenants. Under this new “bridge” version, landlords are prohibited from evicting tenants for past-due rent accrued during the pandemic, until a rental assistance program and eviction-resolution program is in place in their county. This time frame covers February 29, 2020 – July 31, 2021. SANITATION UPDATES 2021 Updated Sanitation Schedule Seattle Surface Cleaners (SSC) schedule and Seattle public Utilities (SPU) Litter Route schedule is highlighted above. The SPU Litter Route is supported by the Clean Cities Initiative. SPU's contractor Elm Grove now services West of I-5 in addition to Little Saigon. Service includes litter pickup and pickup of illegal dumping.
Waste Management (WM), along with Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), launched the 2021 ReThink Waste Grant to award small businesses and community organizations up to $5,000 on projects that encourage waste prevention and/or increase recycling and compost sorting. Apply by August 13th and find more information here: https://www.wmnorthwest.com/seattle/pdf/rethinkwastegrant21.pdf Clear Alley Program (CAP) If you are a property manager or business owner looking to schedule trainings for residents and staff on proper alley disposals, please contact us at clean@cidbia.org. It is in our collective interest to follow guidelines to keep our alleys clean and inviting. We appreciate your collaboration. In 2014, the City of Seattle partnered with local waste collection companies and downtown Seattle customers to reduce the storage of waste containers in the public right-of-way. The City of Seattle’s Clear Alleys Program (CAP) aims to: Create cleaner, safer business districts Reduce the possibility of uncivil behaviors and illegal activities in alleys Increase the attractiveness of the alley for public activations and pedestrian use Allow for better alley access for business services (deliveries) and possible expansion of commercial activity (seating, art, events, etc.) How Clear Alleys Work All businesses located in a Clear Alley are required to create a CAP account through Waste Management (WM). With your CAP account, you are able to purchase Waste Management labeled garbage and recycle bags.
The City of Seattle has partnered with Waste Management to have the WM labeled bags picked up 2 – 3 times a day, 7 days a week to create more space in the alley ways. The only items that are allowed to be placed in the alleys are.. WM labeled garbage and recycling bags. The more you compost and recycle, the less food residue you will have in your garbage bag, and less animals trying to tear the bags. WM recycle bags Labeled compost and recycling carts (32, 60, or 90 gallon) Flattened and neatly stacked cardboard boxes Items NOT allowed in the alleys and considered illegal dumping which can be fined by SPU inspectors are.. Furniture & electronics ANY bags that do NOT have Waste Management (WM) labeled Hazardous liquids and paint Construction debris For more information on the City of Seattle’s Director’s Rules and Regulations, click HERE. Translations are available in Chinese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Korean, Cambodian, and Thai. For more information on setting up your account through Waste Management, click HERE. Translations are available in Chinese, Vietnamese, and Spanish. If you would like different translations, please contact the CIDBIA at clean@cidbia.org. Graffiti Removal Process With Winter ending, the weather has been clear and Seattle Surface Cleaners has been able to start the graffiti removal processes.
For those who are not familiar with the historical brick removal process, please see below. 1. Apply chemical using a brush over the paint 2. Cover the treated area with plastic (2 -3 treatments) 3. Let sit for 24 hours 4. Remove chemical using pressure washer (hot water in some cases) The chemical is essentially a sticky paint removal substance that penetrates the porous brick surface over time. The idea is to use more chemical than high-water pressure to remove the paint in order to preserve the life of the brick. Please feel free to email clean@cidbia.org with graffiti removal requests. *The graffiti needs to be under 8 ft. and accessible from public sidewalks* Alley Pick-Up Schedule Click HERE for the full Alley Pick Up schedule from Waste Management. CIDBIA works continuously with Waste Management and Seattle Public Utilities to ensure WM adheres to this schedule as close as possible. Pending CDC authorization, passenger cruises began mid-July. To read more about this update, visit https://www.portseattle.org/page/covid-19-updates-2021-cruise-season International Special Review District (ISRD) Updates The following guidance is recommended for removal of temporary security measures from business storefronts. These recommendations are intended to help minimize damage to the storefront and repair any holes left behind: Chinese translation | Vietnamese translation In most cases there will be only a few simple steps: 1) Remove boards/gates, 2) Fill holes left behind, 3) Touch up paint.
Carefully remove plywood boards or other temporary screening materials using gentlest means possible. For example, use a drill to remove screws rather than forcefully pulling them out. Please use a board or cardboard to protect stone, brick, terra cotta and other materials if leveraging a crowbar or hammer. Where holes from screws/nails remain, use a type of putty suitable for the material being patched (wood vs. metal). Follow manufacturer’s recommendation for preparing the area of work. Selection of a breathable putty for outdoor use on wood, is recommended. Let dry. Sand before painting. Touch up the paint using the same color that exists on the storefront. Do not paint any unpainted areas of the storefront. A Certificate of Approval is required to change the storefront colors. In cases where replacement of storefront materials is necessary, the replacement material and shape of the trim should match existing in material/shape/form (in-kind repair). ISRD Certificate of Approval process has moved online Questions?
