Introduction
First impressions count and our customer´s perception of our business can start with you, therefore it´s
important that you come to work looking appropriate, at all times so our customers have the best
shopping experience possible.

1. Who is this policy for?
This policy covers all current colleagues working directly for Tesco and Tesco Business Services and
Technology (TBS) on a permanent or temporary basis and mainly covers our stores and distribution
centres.

2. What do we mean by dress code and appearance at
   work?
Dress code and appearance means what you look like while you´re at work and our general principles are
to be clean and tidy. We expect you to use your common sense and come to work looking appropriate.
However, in some areas of the business there are health and safety reasons that we need to provide
additional guidance on to make sure that there´s a practical and consistent approach.

You will see from reading this policy that we always start with the basics – clean, and tidy.

Additionally, our standards of dress also promote an inclusive culture which recognises diversity across
different religions and cultures.

3. What we mean by uniform?
By a uniform we mean a dress with characteristic design or fashion worn by our stores´ and DCs´
colleagues, in most of the cases branded with Tesco logo to ensure that our colleagues are easily
recognizable to our customers and also give the message that we are members of one team. Uniform is,
in general, not intended as a personal protective equipment. By uniform we mainly mean our Tesco
branded polo shirts and fleeces.

4. What we mean by PPE?
By PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) we mean clothing and equipment used to ensure personal safety
in the workplace when eliminating workplace hazards is not possible. Based on the risks evaluation, we
provide you with PPE, which protects you against risks, cannot harm your health and cannot obstruct
work performance. Examples of PPE include respirators, gloves, aprons, fall protection, and full body
suits, as well as head, eye and foot protection. We are obligated to provide you with as adequate personal
protective equipment as possible, to protect you against possible hazards, without any additional cost for
you. You are responsible for using the appropriately issued PPE for the job you are doing and use it in a
manner which you have been properly instructed in.

                  Internal, CE Dress Code and Appearance Policy, Version 1, Page 3 of 10 – July 2019
You need to know the following information:

         You have right to be equipped by needed and reliable protective equipment against risks that
            can harm your health and safety during work;
         You have right to be equipped above the scope of PPE mentioned in catalogue in case you
            are asked to perform work which needs additional protection or if the work conditions
            temporarily worsen;
           When is it necessary to wear/use PPE;
           What sort of PPE is necessary to be worn/used;
           How to properly use and wear the PPE;
         The proper care, maintenance, lifespan and disposal of the PPE.

5. How will the uniform and PPE be allocated to me?
Uniform and PPE is given to you, if you are stores´ and DCs´ colleague, for free your first working day,
before you start to perform the job. You are entitled to get specific set of uniform and PPE, which is
dedicated to your position.

PPE is provided for your personal use (safety shoes, padded jacket, thermal underwear, etc.). However,
PPE may be allocated on the basis of need (rubber apron, chemical resistant gloves, face shield, etc.).
These devices are available by the Personnel Specialist/Store Manager/People Partner.

Please bear in mind that all clothing needs to be clean, tidy and in good condition. We know that
sometimes it may happen that while performing the job, clothes or equipment may get damaged and so
cannot be worn or used anymore. When this happens, notify the colleague providing the clothing /PPE
(Personnel Specialist/Store Manager/People Partner) as soon as possible after becoming aware of any
damage or malfunction of uniform or PPE and you will be provided with new uniform/PPE.

CZ, SK: If the PPE has not lost the protective ability and the uniform is not damaged, the uniform and PPE
can be used longer than its average lifespan specified in the catalogue.

    5.1. Part-timers, students, apprentices, agreement workers

Part-timers, students and apprentices are getting the full allocation of uniform and PPE according to
department/position they are performing.

Agreement workers (PL: civil agreement colleagues) are getting half number of uniform allocation, full
allocation of PPE.

6. What are my responsibilities when talking about
   uniform and PPE?
If you are colleague, your responsibilities regarding assigned uniform/PPE are:

       take the uniform and PPE over;
       work safely to ensure your own safety and health;
       keep uniform and PPE clean and tidy;
       use the uniform and PPE in the way you have been instructed;

                     Internal, CE Dress Code and Appearance Policy, Version 1, Page 4 of 10 – July 2019
   take care of any protective clothing and equipment (PPE) in the way you have been instructed;
       use PPE only for the work for which it is intended;
       store the uniform and PPE in the place intended for them when you are not using them;
       return PPE if it has lost the protective ability;
     return all uniform and PPE clean on your last working day in Tesco

In case of intentional damaging of the uniforms or PPE, we may ask you to reimburse incurred damage
based on the CE Damage Policy.

If you are line manager, your responsibilities towards your colleagues regarding uniforms and PPE are
especially:

       Instruct them about the manner of usage of PPE the were provided with;
     When there are changes in the workplace and in the type of PPE to be used, inform them about
        the change and what does it mean for them;
     Check that your subordinates are dressed properly, cleanly and neatly.

    6.1. Maintaining of the Uniform and PPE

8. What if I cannot wear some part of uniform/PPE due
   to medical reasons?
We want colleagues to wear mainly uniforms, but we understand that there may be some health reasons
for which the clothes dedicated by us may not be suitable for you.

confirmation from specialized doctor / contracted occupational-health doctor (valid for PL: we accept
only confirmation from contracted occupational-health doctor). This confirmation needs to be given to
Personnel Specialist/Store Manager/People Partner.

    1. If this restriction is connected to uniform – you can buy your own clothing which is in line with
         our standards based on the catalogues. We will reimburse the costs to you up to maximum limit
         given later in this chapter.
    2. CZ, HU, SK: If the restriction is connected to PPE – we will provide you with suitable equipment.

wish other gender uniform to be ordered for you.

all colleagues are work appropriate, you wear the uniform that it is required for your department and the
safety wear that is needed for your role.

If you’re working outside the office, it’s worth bearing in mind your location, e.g. if you’re visiting
colleagues or customers in stores, dress smartly and wear a name badge.

If you’re helping colleagues in stores i.e. within Helping Hands, then ensure you’re wearing clothing that
allows movement and suitable shoes (toes covered for safety reasons). If you may need PPE for the work
performance, the store will provide you with it.

If you’re working at home, it’s up to you what you choose to wear. However, we do expect you to dress
appropriately if you are participating in a meeting via a WebEx/video conference. On these occasions,
please don’t wear any clothing which may be considered to be revealing or offensive i.e. swim or night
wear or inappropriate words/images.
