   Success Quotes
       “I can’t give you a sure-fire formula for success,
but I can give you a formula for failure: try to
       please everybody all the time.”
                              — Herbert Bayard Swope

“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Then
quit. No use being a damn fool about it.”
                                            — W.C. Fields

“Try not to become a man of success. Rather
       become a man of value.”
                                       — Albert Einstein

“So be sure when you step, Step with care and
great tact. And remember that life’s A Great
Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You
will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed) Kid,
       you’ll move mountains.”
                — Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

Suffering Quotes
“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
                                                                                  — Rumi

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the
suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it
goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the
search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”
                                                      — Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

“Suffering has been stronger than all other teaching, and
has taught me to understand what your heart used to be.
I have been bent and broken, but - I hope - into a better
                          shape.”
                                              — Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

“Let the first act of every morning be to make the following
                          resolve for the day:

                             - I shall not fear anyone on Earth.
                             - I shall fear only God.
                             - I shall not bear ill will toward anyone.
                             - I shall not submit to injustice from anyone.
                             - I shall conquer untruth by truth. And in resisting
untruth, I shall put up with all suffering.”

“Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large
                          intelligence and a deep heart.”

The Solution to Suffering
By: Dr Rajan Gupta, M D

Excerpts from the book “Eliminate suffering”

The solution to suffering is to let go of desire and practice detachment. This is the implication in the third
Noble Truth which is called nirodha, meaning containment or confinement. One of the key understandings
of this fact of life is that the challenges of life cannot be avoided, and that we let go of desire by facing our
challenges with nobility, respect, dignity, openness to learning and receptivity to expansion.

The energies and feelings that arise within us are forms of fire. We need to control that fire so that it does
not get out of control and destroy us or others. We need to use it as a spiritual force. We need to harness the
energy and consciously direct it to support the expression of our dream. the fire of our feelings is no different
than the fire of transformation. in fact, the fire of our feelings is the fire of transformation; it is just manifesting
on a level of effect rather than a level of cause form which transformational energies originate.

injustice, cruelty, wars, oppression and the life are caused by the reactionary feelings not being controlled.
These fires are released in destructive ways rather than use to fulfill the dreams of well-being and wholeness
that exist in the soul of every human being. Without controlling these reactions their fire becomes as
instrument of the wounds and fears of the unconscious.

Manifesting our dreams as part of the spiritual journey requires us to
channel the energies available to us rather than trying to eliminate what
we might consider to be obstructive or negative energies. The friction that
arises from our obstacles and challenges, which often are the bases for our
suffering, are essential to the evolution of consciousness. Consciousness
only expands through the tensions of life that motivate us to reach deeper
                                       and higher, resulting in expansion.

When the feelings that arise within us in reaction to the challenges
or afflictions we encounter are not ‘contained,’ we will likely adopt
compensatory behaviour. In other words, if we experience that which we
do not like, we will automatically seek to balance it, or remove it, with
something pleasurable. This avoidance is usually the basis for greed
and pleasure seeking, which could be a clue to us as to the need we are
                                       avoiding.

If we do not ‘contain’ the feeling of loss that we frequently experience when faced
with affliction, we typically go through denial first, then anger, then blame. These
are all clues to a need that we are not recognizing. We want to have different
experiences, a different life. To blame others, or to blame oneself, does not get
us to the realization that our life is created through the choices we make.
And the choices are conditioned by the freedom we exercise in facing our
reality rather than running away from it or denying it.

If we do not ‘contain’ the reactions to our affliction we might seek oblivion is an
escape from the hard realities of life. It is an avoidance of responsibility, and
deviation from the path. Oblivion is easily seen when induced by drugs, alcohol,
food or overwork. It is less recognized when it is couched in the language and
practice of the spiritual journey. Nirvana, bliss, meditation, etc. can all be means
of escape. When they are, they are not at all spiritual – i.e., they do not contain the
transformative soul energies; Spirit is absent.

We don’t have to give up the desire we have, but instead let go of the object toward
which the desire is directed. When we let go of the object (often some thing or action of escape)
we still have the energy with which to work. This way we can look more clearly at what we are trying to
escape from. When we fulfill the desire, the energy dissipates temporarily, but there is no change within.
As soon as we are going after something pleasing we need to ask ourselves if we are trying to escape from
 some suffering or challenge.

We do not want to make the object of our desire something toward which we then have an aversion. For
then it will still control us, and the desire will create further conflict. We want to be sufficiently free to choose
so that instead of the desire being a compulsion it gets transformed into a choice we can call a preference.
Preferences do not control, nor create problem when what is preferred is not at hand. Frequently our
happiness is dependent upon the fulfillment of desires. Preferences do not have this controlling grip on us.

When we let go of attachments we can experience Nirvana. Nirvana is not a far off heaven, or a state of
enlightenment that few can reach, but a clear mental state, infused with the understanding, power and love
of soul, that enables one to control and direct the fires of the personality to support soul expression and its
 dream.

TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE
Habits: The Success Formula to Accomplishing Most Anything
It’s been said that successful people are just ordinary people with extraordinary
habits. This might seem rather mundane. Most of us were either taught or came
to believe that success is a rare combination of talents that only a few people are
lucky enough to be born with. Each of us knows someone successful, but can’t
quite put our finger on why they’re so successful.

Could it just be the right habits?

It can. But it’s not just having the positive habits. It’s avoiding negative habits, too. Unsuccessful people are just
as skilled, only they’re skilled at avoiding success by engaging in poor habits. Over time, it’s your habits that
ultimately determine your success. The good news is that habits are learned behaviors. Just as you learned to
brush your teeth or get out of bed each morning, you can learn the habits of success. The bad news is that habits
can be tricky to install and maintain. Bad habits are hard to break. However, if you can enhance these two skills,
you can live the life you’ve always wanted.

Before we get started, let’s consider what a habit actually is. The dictionary defines a habit as “a settled or regular
tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up”. So, a habit is just something that you do regularly. You
do it with little mental effort, like brushing your teeth. Making 100 cold calls each day can be a habit. But being
miserable throughout the process suggests that it’s not a true habit, since it would be easy to give up. So, we’re
not just talking about doing something useful on a regular basis. We’re talking about making it a comfortable
part of your routine. That makes all of this a little more challenging.

So how do you create a new habit?

You already know that new habits aren’t easy to create. With an effective process, though, you can accomplish
nearly anything. Instead of attempting to force yourself to create new behaviors in your life, use a more
methodical approach. If you learn how to create new habits, you become a very powerful person.

Try this process to develop an effective combination of habits that help you succeed:

   1. Identify the habit you want to create. Let’s use exercising daily at the gym for 40 minutes as an example.
   2. K
now why you want to create this habit. What will you gain? What are the advantages. Think long and
short-term. Give your brain a good reason to want to go to the gym.
   3. I dentify the cost of not creating this habit. What pain will you endure if you don’t exercise regularly? An
unattractive figure? Low self-esteem? Poor health? An early death?
   4. D
etermine the lowest level of the habit. Let’s use exercising daily at the gym as an example. You want
to make the habit easy to accomplish. The hardest part of working out at the gym is just getting there. So,
the lowest level of this habit might be to get to the gym and exercise for one minute. That’s it.
       • If that proves to be too challenging, make it even easier. You just have to set foot inside the gym.

WWW.THECENTERSPREAD.COM 833-7SPREAD JUNE 2021
5. Make it easy to be successful. There are things you can do to make
it easier to go to the gym. A few ideas include:
       • Find a gym close to home.
       • Pack your gym bag the night before.
       • Choose a form of exercise that you like.
       • Find a workout partner that you like.
       • Choose a time of day that is convenient for you.
       • Rent a locker so you can keep a few things at the gym.
       • Keep your gym shoes by the door.
   6. Choose a trigger. A trigger is something that you do right before you perform
the habit. It might be walking out to your car in the morning or after work. It
might be saying goodbye to the receptionist at work on your way out the door.
       • Think about when you brush your teeth. You perform that task right after
doing something else. It might be turning off the hall light, shaving, or
availing yourself of the facilities. But you have a trigger.
       • Determine a trigger for your habit.
   7. If possible, perform your habit daily. Every-other day habits are harder to implement.
Once a week habits are much more challenging.
   8. Celebrate when you are successful. Remember, for this example, getting to the
gym and exercising for one minute is success. Be excited! Jump up and down
like you just won an olympic marathon. The key is to make yourself feel good,
so you’re more likely to go to the gym again.
   9. Be patient. The largest study done on habit formation found that it took an
average of 66 days to create a habit. Some people can do it much quicker.
      Others take longer.
You might have heard 30-days, but that’s not supported in the scientific literature. Be prepared for your
new habit to take a while to sink in.
*Remember, the initial focus is on creating the lowest level of the habit. The important thing is making a habit of
getting yourself to the gym. The actual exercising will tend to take care of itself.

New habits can be nearly as challenging to develop. Willpower isn’t enough. It’s necessary to use
an effective process that will increase the odds of success. Your habits can lift you to the stars or
sabotage your success. The choice is yours. Reach for the stars and MAKE IT HAPPEN!

IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Is Social Media Negatively Impacting Your Life?
Just saying NO to Instant Digital Gratification is “Social media is like

time? These days, social media is at our fingertips. One scroll turns into thirty
minutes. Gary Vanderchuck.
If like many others, you have watched The Social Dilemma on Netflix, chances are you have changed your
perception of and usage of social media. If not, perhaps you might consider taking a look at it. Be advised it
should come with a WARNING, because afterwards you may not feel so social media friendly.

The premise of the documentary is to point out that these platforms are designed to keep us on there as long
as possible. Social media started out as a place to connect with loved ones, but has evolved into places for
advertisers, influencers, and marketers to get our attention.

Keep in mind that it is so easy to get into a habit of using these platforms compulsively and excessively.
Social media use can be so habitual that it might affect your life in unintended ways.

Logging onto social media and seeing new notifications, likes, or comments can send a
rush of dopamine (a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure) to your brain. The
problem is that the dopamine is temporary. And once it wears off, you might want to
go back for more.

Unfortunately, chasing the quick gratification from dopamine hits leads to
an overall lower level of happiness.

Is social media impacting your life in unintended ways?

Signs that social media may be having a negative impact on your life:

   1. Gets in the way of life (work, school, or relationships). Do you scroll
on social media instead of working or engaging with others?
Sometimes we allow social media to get in the way of learning,
      productivity, or relationships.
   2. Feeds feelings of low self-esteem, anxiety, or depression.
Have you found yourself opening social media to check likes and
comments? Or maybe you’ve seen others’ highlight reels of their
activities, only to feel worse about yourself. These are common ways
social media feeds low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression.

WWW.THECENTERSPREAD.COM 833-7SPREAD JUNE 2021
3. Disrupts sleep. Do you scroll on social media at night instead of getting
rest? If scrolling on social media disrupts your sleep, you might want to consider
your limits with social media each night.

The good news is, how you use social media can make a big difference on its impact on your life. You can change
your relationship with social media to have a more positive impact on your daily life.

How to make positive changes in the way you use social media:
   1. Log onto social media with an intention. What is your intention when you log onto social media? Is it
to connect with a friend? Take a couple moments to set an intention before you open the social media
      platform.
   2. There’s an app for that. Use an app that controls the amount of time you spend on social media platforms.
If you spend too much time on social media, set limits with how much time you spend on these platforms.
   3. Turn off notifications. Does your phone light up every time you receive a like or comment? It might help
you to turn off notifications on your phone.
   4. Leave your phone in another room. Huge numbers of people scroll through social media instead of
sleeping at night. Avoid joining this crowd! Put your phone out of reach - or better yet, another room
      when it’s time to rest.
   5. Delete social media apps on your phone. You can delete apps on your phone altogether. This way, if
you really need to check the social media platform, you must do it from your laptop or computer.
   6. Replace a social media habit with something new. Reach out to a friend, read a book, go for a walk. The
key is to think about why you crave going on social media - and replace that habit with something that
      fills the same need.

Social media can help us to stay connected with loved ones. However, it can also lead to comparing ourselves to
others, causing us to feel negative emotions. If you resonate with that, know that you are not alone!

Raise your awareness of how you spend your time, develop better social
media habits and pay close attention to the way you use social media
can help you to feel happier and get greater enjoyment out of life.

MOST SUCCESSFUL COUPLE
OF THE CENTURY
                                                        Omvati & Suresh Chand Gupta
Success has different meaning for everyone. For this couple who happens to be my parents, the definition of
success is unique.

I had one of my best friend and a great writer Jeena Dutta take an
interview of them and write about their lives.

Here is how Jeena describes their life.

Living the dream
Traveling through time, life, and countries to a world unknown yet so fulfilling. Captivating, isn’t it? That is how I
felt while I was talking to Mrs. Omvati Gupta and Mr. Suresh Chand Gupta. It was not long into our conversation
that I was beginning to feel a sense of pride. A pride of being a woman. A pride of the world we live in, where
anything is possible if you put your heart, mind, and soul to it. A pride of having the same origin as this beautiful
couple. We talked about dreams, goals, hardships, family, and most importantly love and respect.

The couple today boasts a life that is more than what they had hoped for. Something Mrs. Omvati told me has
been resonating in my mind, “home is where your family is”. What did she mean by that? After having lived in
India all her life, could she call this country to be her home? To me that was baffling. How is that even possible?
But what she said after made a lot of sense. She said, “I have only known one life that is living and providing for
my children. If my children are here, my home is here.” I asked Mrs. Gupta to tell me more about herself. I was
really intrigued and wanted to know about her. She was a little shy at first but then slowly started opening. She
said, “you know, I had a dream of my own too, that was to be a doctor. I was very smart and intelligent in school.
Yet I wasn’t allowed to pursue my dreams because I was a girl.” She continued, “I come from an exceedingly
small and remote village in Haryana, India and was married at an incredibly young age. I was hardly 16 with
little knowledge of the world. I wasn’t even allowed to go to school after 10th grade”. Mrs. Gupta paused for a
moment; I sensed a little disappointment in her voice. But to my surprise, after a brief lull, her voice bloomed with
pride and confidence as she continued her story.

She said, “I am lucky that I am married to a good man. We share the same values and we
both love our family. I was a mother of four beautiful children by the time I was 21. I went
back to school after my 4th child and finished college.”
In India, till a couple of decades ago, it was a common practice for girls to marry in their teen age years. They
did not have much say in society. We as Indians have come a long way since then. Today’s Indian women are
bustling with energy, self-confidence, and ambition. Had Mrs. Omvati’s story been played out today, it would
be a whole different narrative.

Hearing her talk was refreshing and at this point Mr. Suresh started speaking.

He said
“A good wife is all you need to have a happy and fulfilling life. That is what I
have, a wife who has been there for me and my family through thick and thin.
I was a teacher making just enough to survive. But regardless of our financial
restrictions, we had a happy family. My wife made sure that our family had
everything we needed. She would sew our clothes herself so that we did not
need to buy clothes. I must say she was exceptionally good at it. Omvati would
cook everything our children liked, so that they never felt the need to go out
   and eat.”
Sounds like a movie, doesn’t it? Well, this is as real as it gets. Mr. & Mrs. Gupta told me that like all parents they had
a dream to see each one of their children succeed in the careers they chose and the lives they lead.

To ensure a quality life for their children, they tried to instill a high sense of morality, accountability, and respect
in them along with a great emphasis on education. Mrs. Omvati humbly said, “I could only teach. But it was up
to my children how much they wanted to learn. And today I can proudly say, they listened, understood, and
delivered. 3 of my 4 children are doctors in the US. They graduated from highly reputed institutions, including
Harvard University, and Vanderbilt University. One of my daughters live in India. She is happily married and has
a business of her own. “Date: May 23rd, 2021 2 Mrs. Gupta continued, “I wanted to be a doctor, but I could not.

So, I wanted to inspire my children enough so that they would aspire to achieve bigger and greater things in life.”
I asked the couple if they are content with how things shaped up for them,

“Oh yes! We cannot thank God enough with everything He has given us. Not many
are as blesse as we are. Our sons, daughters and grand children understand
and respect how far we have come in one generation. We as a family are
extremely grateful and each one of us are always trying to give back as
much as we can to the society, we live in.”

Today, the couple lives in an affluent neighborhood in South Jersey,
surrounded by their family who live only a few miles away.

They get to see their sons and their wives, their daughter and her family
and their grandkids all the time. Though thousands of miles away from
their origin, Mr. & Mrs. Gupta call this country their home. Regardless of the
language, culture and lifestyle barriers, the couple has been able to create
a bond that is rare to find. They are independent, active, and very present in
the lives of their loved ones. They have set an example for their co-villagers,
friends, and acquaintances back in India. People back home narrate their
life’s story with awe and admiration. Mrs. Omvati looked at me and I could
see a blissful content in her eyes, she took a deep breath and ended, “None
of this was easy, but it was all worth it.” She smiled!

My mom is a great cook. She makes finger licking food. It is painful to eat
her food sometimes because you must pay a Heavy price of the weight gain.

My parents are both extremely hard working. Sometimes I feel that even
at this age they work harder than any of our siblings. They are always doing
something. If its not cooking then it will be gardening or something else.

Success for them is spending time with the family. Making sure the kids are
taken care of and they are well fed. Often you see parents telling their kids
that they are proud of them but here I would like to say, what they
have done, and how they have done, I am proud of them.

Covid Plagued India
A coronavirus variation first recognized in Quite a while in February has now gone
worldwide, spreading to many nations including India, and raising feelings of dread
that the strain will overpower medical services frameworks, switch resuming plans, and
even possibly subvert the rollout of antibodies. Specialists accept the B.1.617 variation is
driving the gigantic wave in contaminations seen across India as of late. The nation currently
makes up half of the Covid-19 cases and 30% of passings from the infection internationally,
as indicated by the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO assigned B.1.617 and its
sublineages as a “variation of worry” on May 10. That arrangement implies a variation might
be more contagious or cause more serious illness, neglect to react to treatment, avoid an
insusceptible reaction or neglect to be analyzed by standard tests.

As of now, there’s no proof that B.1.617 is causing more extreme sickness. “There is right now deficient proof
to demonstrate that any of the variations as of late recognized in India cause more extreme infection,” Public
Health said on May 7. In the event that India’s coronavirus episode can’t be contained and keeps on spreading to
adjoining nations with low immunization supplies and frail wellbeing frameworks, specialists caution the world
dangers imitating scenes in India. The flare-up there affects worldwide immunization supply. India is a main
producer of antibodies however when cases began to spike, its administration confined the fare of Covid-19
shots. Furthermore, the more the infection spreads, the more possibilities it needs to transform and make new
variations that could, at last, oppose current antibodies, taking steps to sabotage other nations’ advancement in
containing the pandemic.

How does India have so numerous COVID cases?
    • A blend of the UK variation getting prevailing and another “twofold freak” variation arising has
overpowered India. The new episode in India is extreme to such an extent that emergency clinics
are running out of oxygen and beds, and numerous individuals who have become sick are being
      dismissed.

For a country where COVID numbers gave off an impression of being dropping drastically only a couple
of weeks prior, what has turned out badly in India?

    • The Indian variation, known as B.1.617, seems, by all
accounts, to be unleashing destruction in the country.
Since April 15, India has been detailing in excess of 200,000
cases of coronavirus consistently and its capital, Delhi, as of
late declared seven days in length lockdown after an ascent
in cases there overpowered the medical care framework.

On Wednesday this week, as the COVID cost was rising, Delhi’s most elevated court made
the uncommon stride of openly condemning the local government and its way to deal with
dealing with the country’s oxygen emergency. The court was hearing a request documented
by Hospitals looking for dire assistance to hold over the oxygen lack it was looking in six of its
clinics in the capital. There is likewise much worry about the development of new variations
of the coronavirus in India. It is thought the predominant strain in the nation presently is
the variation that was first distinguished in the UK, and which has demonstrated to be up to 60 percent more
contagious between people. On March 25, it was additionally declared that another “twofold” variation had been
identified in India, presently known as the “Indian variation”. This advancement is the thing that has different
nations scared. The cases have become more severe and the nation has been plagued with the virus.

Clinics have been loaning some assistance to COVID clinics
everywhere in the world, and their help has been invited
by many. Yet, we likewise need to set them up for a world
past COVID and, in the restricted time we have with them,
to guarantee they are ready for a wide scope of ailments
from the physical to the psychological. Yet, how might
we do that on the off chance that they couldn’t consider
patients to be ordinary? Many medical professionals come
into the procedure and, at first, hold phone interviews with
patients, addressing genuine patients who ring in about
their infirmities. The understudies record a clinical history
by addressing the patients and endeavor to think of an
administration plan which they at that point run past me
or another specialist for endorsement. They found that
completing 30 minutes of activity which gets you exhausted
and a piece sweat-soaked five times each week reinforces
your invulnerable reaction to irresistible infections. It is
believed that customary exercise expands the number
of safe cells in the body following up on the mainline of
safeguard the mucosal layer of antibodies. These cells are answerable for recognizing unfamiliar specialists or
“germs” in the body without discouraging the remainder of the resistant framework, so it’s completely protected
and ensures you against irresistible sickness.

This new wave in India has been wrecking for the country. An organized reaction is required between Indian states
and local governments to deal with the inventory of oxygen and fundamental medications if the quantity of COVID-
related passing is to be managed. There is additionally a worry that we don’t have a clue about the genuine number of
deaths from COVID, as certain individuals have kicked the bucket at home before they could get to a hospital or clinic
and numerous others in India, especially in country zones, have experienced issues getting to testing offices. Medical
clinics and medical procedures everywhere in the world have made a special effort to make enormous pieces of their
structures sans covid. This implies that they can be utilized for non-COVID-related administrations and staff working
there won’t move over to cover COVID wards or facilities. Thus, on the off chance that you get an arrangement to go to
a facility or clinic administration, it is truly significant that you do go.

Do antibodies neutralize it?
Lab examination into the adequacy of the Pfizer, Covisheild, and Moderna antibodies against
the variations first seen in quite a while showed that the shots seem to ensure against variations.
The new exploration included serum tests gathered from eight individuals who had recuperated
from Covid-19, individuals completely inoculated with and completely immunized with some
vaccines. The analysts investigated in the lab try how the serum tests killed lentiviruses a kind of
retrovirus furnished with similar changes as the B.1.617 and B.1.618 coronavirus variations.

Antibodies that can secure against numerous coronaviruses could forestall another pandemic?
Clarifications range from net belittles of death to segment impacts, ecological elements like
plentiful nutrient D from the Indian environment, and the country’s high level of veggie lovers.
