Volunteers packing Senior Food Boxes at the Charlottesville warehouse
What Have We Learned?
▪ Food insecurity and poverty are bigger, long-term
problems due to changes in labor market
    o 20% unemployment rate among low-wage earners,
and 10% “real” unemployment rate overall
o Women and people of color are disproportionately
      affected
o Automation means that mid-range manufacturing
jobs are giving way to retail jobs, which are giving way
      to no jobs
▪ Our partners are resilient AND vulnerable. Charitable
food assistance as we know it must evolve.
