At The Young Business Leaders panel that featured Aakash Ambani, chief of strategy, Jio, PC
Mustafa, founder, ID Fresh Food and Ashish Hemrajini, founder, Bookmyshow discussion
ranged from how to pick the differentiating factor in a business by offering unique product
propositions, to giving back to the society, while growing a business.
Examples ranged from ID Fresh Food’s initiative to supply truckloads of food material
during the Chennai Floods, to Bookmyshow supporting education of the girl child. “Giving
back to the society has to be an ongoing process,” said Hemrajini. Commenting on India’s
capacity for digital consumption, Ambani pointed out that while AI has seen a phenomenal
rise, his company envisions an intelligence revolution for India in the coming years.
At the panel discussion featuring Roopa Moudgil, IGP, Home Guards & Civil Defence, Jahnavi
Phalkey, founding director, Science Gallery Bangalore and Dana Kursh, Consul General of Israel to
South of India; talking of leadership and using power differently in the 21st century, where women
are an emerging force, Roopa remarked that instead of trying to fit into the male bastion, women
leaders needed to define their own rules of leadership.
Phalkey said that many women can do the role of a male quite well. She said though a lot has
changed, still "there are strong hierarchies in the workplace". Dana Kursh called for empathy
and compassion at the workforce, hoping that rising number of women at work would bring in

Stressing on the importance of ingeniously developed technology, Former ISRO
Chairman Dr K Radhakrishnan said India has a vibrant space industry which caters to
both domestic and global customers, speaking at length about India's significant
progress in space exploration during the panel discussion featuring Neha Satak, CEO
of Astrome Technologies, moderated by veteran science journalist Pallava Bagla.
Neha, during the panel discussion, said that demand for internet in rural India is
growing."We are working on technologies to provide internet in villages in a cost
effective way. Terrestrial technologies which currently provides internet in
villages has a cost constraint to it," she added.
Mithali Raj, Captain, Indian Women’s Cricket Team and Prakash
Padukone, India’s first World No.1 badminton champion, presented a
refreshing perspective on talent development, , mentoring and
leadership values in sports. Padukone discussed the importance of
mentorship, saying how seniors in sports needed to mentor youngsters.
Raj emphasised the importance of having a sporting culture in school,

From Fragile 5 to a five trillion dollar economy’ session saw corporate
captain – Debjani Ghosh – President NASSCOM and eminent economist
and PMEAC member – Surjit Bhalla, presenting a very insightful and
well-rounded discussion on the Indian economic growth story and its
influencers. Citing Ms. Ghosh from the session “Globalization,
Digitization, Inclusion and mindset are major factors that are and shall
continue to influence the economy’s buoyant progress”. She also added
“The shift in focus from STEM to STEAM meant that the world of arts,
science & Tech is coming together to create more job opportunities.”
The day ended with a panel discussion by an eclectic mix of members from tech
entrepreneurship and academia background on ‘Breakthrough innovations – AI,
Machine learning and analytics’.Prashanth Ranganathan – Founder CEO, PaySense
highlighted the role RBI is playing as a forward-thinking regulator in inviting
fintech entrepreneurs to understand best practices as well as current tech
innovations that these companies use to evaluate what works, and incorporating it
while working on regulatory policies. Prof. Praveen Kopalle – Professor of
Marketing at Tuck School of Business, Dartmouthand an IIMB Alumnisaid “The

Taking a break from the various sessions, the audience was treated to an ensemble
performance post lunch on Day 2: The ThayirSadam Project by SubraMania. The artistes
included brother-sister duo – Ambi and Bindu Subramaniam on Violin and Vocals; Akshay
Padmanabhan on the mridangam and Kunakool while Mahesh Raghavan provided a very
interesting instrumental cover through his IPAD. The highlight of the performance was a
quick Konakool lesson for the audience after which everyone joined in enthusiastically to
