Collection and delivery drivers are only required to sign in if they are entering the shop floor of the Coles

Site Safety Practices
On arrival drivers must ensure they understand the site specific safety procedure they must follow to
prevent unexpected vehicle drive-off or movement during loading or unloading. This is in addition to their
safety responsibilities as the person in charge of the vehicle.

Hazards,
 SWMS &

Hazards, SWMS and Incidents
Identification and Reporting

What is a Hazard?
A hazard is a physical situation, work practice or procedure with the potential to cause harm in terms of:

•   Injury or illness;
• Damage to the environment; and/or
• Damage to property.

Reporting and Management of Hazards
When on a Coles Group site, you must:
• Report all hazards, including changes in work that may affect safety or safe practices to a Coles Group
   representative
• Provide adequate control measures for all hazards identified.
Hazards, SWMS and Incidents
Safe Work Method Statements

A safe work method statement (SWMS) is a document that describes the job to be completed,
the steps involved and identified associated hazards.

It details risk control measures to be implemented to eliminate or reduce risk and is required for
all works.

Contractors (including transport contractors), must have a copy of a SWMS to demonstrate how
they will undertake work safely and control hazards. In addition you must have an understanding
of the controls and be able to demonstrate implementation of the controls.

If the work is considered routine the same work method statement is sufficient until conditions
or their processes change. You can use your own SWMS or Job Safety Analysis (JSA) as relevant
to your business.

What is an Incident?
An incident is any unplanned event resulting in, or having a potential for injury, illness, death, damage or

but has the potential to cause injury and/or property damage.

Reporting of Incidents
All incidents (including near misses) must be reported immediately to your supervisor and Coles Group site
representative as soon as practical.

Contractors are required investigate any incident they are involved in and to co-operate in Coles incident
investigations as requested.

First Aid
In the event of an injury requiring first aid treatment, the site will carry basic first aid supplies. Contractors
