TODAY IS…
 • INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY – TURN ON YOUR CAPS LOCK AND LEAVE IT
ON ALL DAY! ‘CAPS LOCK DAY’ POKES FUN AT ALL THOSE ANNOYING PEOPLE (LIKE
YOUR DAD) WHO THINK IT’S FINE TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS, EVEN WHEN THEY’RE NOT
SHOUTING AT YOU THROUGH A TEXT.

 • PLEASE TAKE MY CHILDREN TO WORK DAY – Give your exhausted stay-at-
home partner a break by dragging the damn kids to work with you. All she wants is go to the
bathroom without being interrupted. The day was invented in 2003 by a stay-at-home mom
who thought it was time homemakers got a day off from the kids.

 • INTERNATIONAL BODY PIERCING DAY – A salute to all those with some metal
sticking out of their nose, ears, nipple or… ’elsewhere’. Life isn’t always easy for them,
especially around fishnet or metal detectors.
DID YOU KNOW?…The oldest known evidence of body piercings was a 5-thousand-year-
old mummy discovered in an Austrian glacier whose ears were pierced with animal bones.
It’s believed ancient civilizations thought piercings brought magical powers.

BIRTHDAYS:

 • ELON MUSK, 50: Engineer. He’s the wacky billionaire who founded PayPal, Tesla,
SpaceX and hosted SNL. He named his son X Æ A-12 and is building a city in Texas called
     Starbase. So yeah, he’s eccentric.

 • KATHY BATES, 73: Actress. The Oscar-winning actress scared us in "Misery" and
"American Horror Story." She was also scary good in “Fried Green Tomatoes” and “Titanic”
before getting into the horror genre.

 • MEL BROOKS, 95: Actor/Comedian/Filmmaker. "It's good to be the King." HBD to one of
the kings of comedy. Fun fact, the guy responsible for “Spaceballs” is a member of the
EGOT club for winning an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. Not so highbrow now,
        huh?
HERE IS A CLIP FROM “SPACEBALLS”

    • KELLIE PICKLER, 35: Singer. The Country singer was discovered on "American Idol."
She went on to win the 16th season of "Dancing with the Stars."
HERE IS KELLIE PICKLER’S “AMERICAN IDOL” AUDITION

TRENDING/ODD
BBQ WATERMELON PIZZA IS NOW ‘A THING (00:22)
For some reason, watermelon pizza is now ‘a thing.’ The recipe is blowing up on TikTok. It involves
frying both sides of a round slice of watermelon - rind intact - then smothering with BBQ sauce,
cheese and pepperoni before sticking it under a broiler for a few minutes. Sure, it might sound gross,
but it’s probably not as bad as the watermelon and mustard trend from earlier this year.

POLICE ARE AFTER WOMAN WHO CUASED TOUR DE FRANCE CRASH (00:27)
Police are after the fan who caused that massive crash at the Tour de France. A woman holding a
sign got in the way of cyclists, causing complete chaos. Her carboard sign hit German rider Tony
Martin who was at the head of the pack. He fell, leading to dozens of riders behind him to crash.
Some went to the hospital and at least one rider involved had to drop out of the race. French
authorities say the woman fled the scene before investigators arrived.

OLYMPIC ATHLETE “P**SED” NATIONAL ANTHEM WAS PLAYED AT OLYMPIC
TRIALS (00:28)
A U.S. Olympic hammer thrower is mad the national anthem played while she received her bronze
metal. Gwen Berry is calling it a “set up” and “disrespectful.” The first and second place winners
stood facing the flag, hand over heart while it played. But Gwen faced away, eventually holding an
“Activist Athlete” t-shirt over her head. She says they shouldn’t have played it while she was on the
podium because the anthem, quote, “doesn’t speak for me.” There’s now backlash online.

NAKED BIKE RIDE IS ON (BUT YOU MUST WEAR A MASK) (00:28)
You won't need a shirt, pants, or even underwear, but for this year's annual Naked Bike Ride in
Philadelphia, you DO need to wear a mask. Last year's annual nude ride was canceled because of
COVID. But it is happening this year in all its naked and sweaty goodness. It’s a nearly ten-mile ride
around the city, past the Liberty Bell and City Hall, to promote cycling advocacy, reduced fuel use
and body positivity. On the group’s Instagram page, it says: On August 28th, “Say yes to masks, no
to bras.”

MAN TIPS $16K FOR HOT DOGS (00:26)
A guy in New Hampshire left a 16-thousand dollar tip for a couple of hot dogs. The tab was for 37-
dollars-and-93-cents. At first the wait staff didn’t notice the massive act of kindness. So they didn’t
think much of it when the guy kept telling them “don’t spend it all in one place.” It wasn’t until later did
they realize what he’d done. The owner contacted the diner to be sure it wasn’t a mistake. Sure
enough, the hard workers were told to ‘relish’ in it.

11-YEAR-OLD GIVES BIRTH IN UK (00:20)
An 11-year-old gave birth. She’s now believed to be the youngest-ever mom in the UK. She was 10
when she got pregnant. A doctor told The Sun “weight affects many hormones” and because kids
are heavier these days, puberty is hitting at younger ages. The girl’s family says they’re stunned.
Social services and police are now investigating the situation.

9 DEAD, 152 UNACOUNTED FOR AT COLLAPSED MIAMI APARTMENT BUILDING
(00:22)
The death toll of the collapsed Miami apartment building stands at nine. 152 people still remain
unaccounted for. The site was open to family members so they could visit and pay their respects. On
Saturday, the city of Surfside released an engineering report from 2018 that warned that the building
had major structural worries. It is unclear if any of the issues in the report caused the collapse.

years old. Witnesses say the balloon slammed into some power lines, caught fire, then fell about 100

BLOOD TEST CAN NOW SCREEN FOR 50 TYPES OF CANCER EVEN BEFORE
SYMPTOMS (00:19)
There’s a new blood test that can now detect 50 types of cancer even before anyone has
symptoms. The test looks for tumor DNA in the blood and then analyzes it to determine what kind of
cancer it might be. The results are usually available in about 10 days - you’ll need a prescription to
get one and they say it works best on people who are 50 and older.

STUDY: DOES EARTH HAVE A HEARTBEAT? (00:19)
Hear that? Scientists now believe earth has a heartbeat (well…sorta). It’s not so much a ‘heartbeat’
as it is a cycle of cataclysmic geological events that happen every 27-and-a-half million years.
Scientists at New York University have no idea why it keeps happening. But don’t worry, the next
one’s not due for another 20 million years.

VACATION RENTAL PRICES GO THROUGH THE ROOF AHEAD OF BUSY
SUMMER SEASON (00:18)
Good luck trying to find a cheap vacation rental. This summer, AirBnB’s and other private vacation

demand, now that lockdown’s over, and more homeowners are choosing to stay in the properties
they’d usually be renting out.
CANADA GOOSE IS GOING “FUR FREE” (00:19)
Canada Goose says it’ll stop using fur on its coats. The crazy-expensive down parkas have been
driving PETA nuts with their coyote fur lining. The lux company says it’ll stop buying fur by the end of
2021 and will stop using it on its products in 2022. The decision comes as part of the brand’s
strategy to become more environmentally friendly.

PRINCE LYRICS SELL AT AUCTION FOR MEGA BUCKS (00:19)
A Prince superfan just snagged a piece of purple history. The handwritten lyrics to “Nothing
Compares 2 U” was sold at auction for 151-thousand dollars. It’s a piece of notebook paper with the
lyrics written in cursive. The paper still has the white console marking tape Prince used to tape the
lyrics to his mic while recording the track.

who she calls her “twin flame.”
