Creation Pinot clinches Gold
at 2018 Decanter Awards
The Creation Art of Pinot Noir 2016 has once again received
global recognition by winning a gold medal at the 2018
Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA). This was the first year
Creation entered its Art range for the prestigious DWWA and
the estate was the only producer in the Hemel-en-Aarde to win
gold for its Pinot Noir.
Awarding it a 95-point score, the DWWA panel described the
wine as follows: “Rich, opulent, luxurious nose of cherry
confit, kirsch cherry liquor, brambleberry fruit and sweet
charm. Big and bold in style with a spicy and savoury palate
depth and excellent length through the finish. Bold but
confident and racy.”

The 2018 DWWA panel comprised a team of 275 judges, including
many of the world’s top experts, who blind tasted the 16 903
wines entered. The Creation Art of Pinot Noir was one of only
240 wines to receive gold. Medal categories correspond to the
100-point scoring system used by Decanter and many top wine

critics around the world. To qualify for a gold medal a wine
had to achieve a minimum score of 95 and be judged
as ‘excellent . . . of great character and complexity’.

According to Creation co-owner and marketing director Carolyn
Martin the grapes for the limited-release 2016 Creation Art of
Pinot Noir were selected from a small pocket within a single
vineyard block, planted on 450-million-year-old clay loam
soils with decomposed Bokkeveld shale. The wine was 30% whole-
bunch fermented to capture the freshness of the cool-climate
grapes and then only a limited barrel selection was bottled
under the Art of Pinot Noir label.

It’s not the first time that the 2016 Creation Art of Pinot
Noir has impressed the connoisseurs. The same vintage received

a 5-star rating in the 2018 edition of the
authoritative Platter’s South African Wine Guide while Greg
Sherwood MW recently scored the wine 94+ in a private tasting.

Recent visitor feedback:

“Everything about Creation is friendliness, exquisite food and
wine and exceptional service. We had the small plate pairings
and Warren and Artwell immersed us in the experience from the
beginning. We are wine buffs and have travelled to the wine
regions of the world and felt that all our questions were
answered in an informed way showing a good understanding of
wine to sommelier standard. The food was divine – and the
desserts exceptional. I would definitely recommend this
experience – no wonder they have won so many awards!”
