10 11Student successes – DMU Fashion student designs a range for TikTok
Global social media site TikTok has entered the world of design with its own range of exclusive
merchandise, featuring pieces by DMU Contour Fashion student Megan Cornhill.
Megan entered a competition set up by TikTok to come up with a design that their influencers would
wear. Her drawings for a pleated tennis skirt complete with holster belt accessory were selected as one
of a small number of designs from around the country.
Megan was put up in London for a week and given £500 prize money, all courtesy of TikTok. She visited
the Fashion Enter factory, meeting TikTok bosses, attending workshops and selecting fabrics for her
outfits, which have been sent to TikTok influencers as an exclusive piece.
Megan said: “One of the TikTok people said they loved the holster and wore it around the factory saying
they would love to make something like it. That was really nice feedback to hear.”
Megan is continuing her studies at DMU with a master’s degree in Contour Fashion Innovation.

Everything you need – at a price that’s right
When it comes to affordability, Leicester’s great for student essentials,
such as food, rent and bills.
Leicester has recently been named one of the top three student cities in
the UK.* The cost of accommodation, the weekly shop and nights out in
Leicester combined was far more wallet-friendly than Birmingham,
Coventry and neighbouring Nottingham.
A city with great links
Leicester’s central location means easy connections to UK cities and
airports, so you’ll never feel too far from friends and family. It’s also the third
most ‘progressive’ city in the UK, according to Bankrate UK, which ranked
cities on how they addressed issues including recycling and the gender pay
gap while promoting positive change.
Only an hour away from London by train and less than an hour from other
major cities such as Birmingham, Leicester has all the connected benefits
of big-city living without the price tag to match. The Student Living Index
2020, compiled by NatWest, ranked Leicester in the top three ‘student
cities’, based on the cost to students of food, rent and fun.
