SENIOR SCHOLAR - ATHLETE
AWARDSDIAA SENIOR SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARDS
1. A male winner, first runner-up and second runner-up and a female winner, first
runner-up and second runner-up will be selected based on their athletic and
academic accomplishments, demonstrated leadership qualities, school
recommendations and a written essay.
2. A nominee must be a 12th grade student enrolled at a DIAA member school.
3. A nominee must have earned at least two varsity letters in each of two different sports
regulated by DIAA during grades 9-12.
4. A nominee must have a cumulative (grades 9-12) GPA of at least 3.5 (4.0 scale) at the
end of the third quarter or second trimester.
5. Each applicant must submit a typed essay of not more than 500 words describing how
participation in interscholastic athletics has enhanced his/her educational experience.
6. Each applicant must submit evidence of demonstrated leadership in school-sponsored
or community activities.
7. A member school may submit only one male and one female nominee.
8. Applications must be postmarked or received in the DIAA office no later than the
third Friday in April. Mail to DIAA 35 Commerce Way, Suite 1, Dover, DE 19904.
There will be no exceptions to the aforementioned deadline.
9. The recipients will be selected by a committee comprised of current and former
members of the DIAA Board of Directors as appointed by the Chairperson.
10. Each winner will receive a plaque and a $2,000 scholarship to be used at the post-
secondary institution (university, college, or trade school) of his/her choice. Each first
runner-up will receive a plaque and a $1,500 scholarship to the post-secondary
institution of his/her choice. Each second runner-up will receive a plaque and a $1,000
scholarship to the post-secondary institution of his/her choice.
11. A student who has accepted a full athletic or academic scholarship or who will be
attending a service academy is not eligible for the award.
12. The scholarship will be divided into two equal amounts and checks will be forwarded
directly to the post-secondary institution at the beginning of each semester of the
freshmen year.APPLICANT
