RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, in which adults become members of the Catholic Church. Catechumens (or candidates) attend regularly scheduled meetings with an RCIA Team to discuss teachings and beliefs of the Catholic Church. They are taught the importance of having a strong prayer life, the role of the Virgin Mother Mary, the many facets of the Mass, the Saints, and how we worship Jesus Christ. Catechumens are encouraged to study the Gospel to strengthen their relationship with God and profess their faith in Jesus Christ. Once all meetings are held, catechumens begin preparing for the Easter Vigil where they receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation. Who can go through the RCIA Program? • A Catholic individual who was baptized, but never received First Communion and Confirmation. • A Catholic individual who was baptized and received First Communion and Confirmation but wants to learn more about their faith. • A non-Catholic who has never been baptized. • A non-Catholic individual who wants to convert to Catholicism. • A non-Catholic individual who was baptized in another Christian denomination but wants to become a member of the Catholic Church. • A Catholic or non-Catholic with reservations.
