your experience? Nothing is more serene than feeling
the ocean breeze and hearing the waves as you enjoy
a beachfront massage. Taking a pause from your time
together with separate appointments for hair, nail, and
skin treatments after your massage will help to build the
anticipation for a romantic dinner date.S AY Y E S T O Special Requests

Around The World
One of the most exciting parts of taking a trip is the chance to try the local
flavors. Food allows us to connect with a culture and explore with more of
our senses. Making international dishes at home is a great way to relive
travel memories and find inspiration for your next trip.
We’ve rounded up three recipes from around the world to add a little
international flair to your kitchen adventures.Croque Monsieur
Simple, yet mouth-watering, the croque monsieur is a
straightforward dish that makes for a decadent lunch or
dinner. Sticking true to the French affinity for cheese, butter,
and bread this open-faced sandwich is easy to make at home.
Makes 8 open-faced sandwiches or 4 double-deckers (pictured).
INGREDIENTS
2 Tbsp butter
3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
2 c milk
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
12 oz Gruyere, grated (5 cups)
1/2 c freshly grated Parmesan
8 slices of bread
8 oz ham, sliced but not paper thin
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat the oven to 400º F.
2. In a saucepan, melt the butter. Add the flour and stir.
3. Slowly pour the milk into the butter and flour mixture
and cook, whisking constantly, until the sauce is thickened.
Once it is thickened, add salt, pepper, garlic powder, 1/2
cup grated Gruyere, and the Parmesan. Remove from heat
and set aside.
4. Toast the bread on baking sheets in the oven.
Remember to flip the bread to toast on both sides.
5. Once toasted, top each slice of bread with a slice of ham
and cheese sauce. Sprinkle the remaining cheese (4 1/2 cups
Gruyere) on top.
6. Bake sandwiches for 5 minutes or until cheese has melted.
19Caribbean Rum Punch
Sipping this cool, tropical drink will transport your mind
to your favorite beach destination. The bright colors and
refreshing taste make this beverage a perfect complement
to your summer relaxation. Makes one serving.
INGREDIENTS
1 1/4 oz light rum 1 oz orange juice
1 1/4 oz dark rum 1/4 oz fresh lime juice
2 oz pineapple juice 1/4 oz grenadine*
INSTRUCTIONS

2. Add ice and give it a 10-30 second shake.
3. Strain and pour into glass of your choice.
4. Garnish with a cherry or a slice of pineapple.
*Note: The grenadine can be omitted if you don’t have
it on hand, though it is key to giving this drink it’s typical
red/orange color.
Hawaiian Haupia
This traditional Hawaiian treat is popular in cakes,
puddings, and pies, but the original Haupia is a dessert
all on its own. Traditionally served in small, Jello-like
squares, it’s a unique and authentic dish that is worth a try,
whether it’s in your own kitchen or in the land of Aloha.
Makes 16 2” square servings.
INGREDIENTS
1 can full fat coconut milk (about 14 oz)
5 Tbsp cornstarch (4 for less firm texture)
5 Tbsp granulated sugar
3/4 c water
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place coconut milk in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Note: It must be full fat coconut milk to properly set.
2. In a separate bowl, combine sugar and cornstarch, and
add the water. Whisk until completely combined.
3. When the coconut milk just starts to simmer, add the
sugar/cornstarch mix, and whisk. Keep whisking until the
mixture thickens (about 10 minutes).
4. Pour into an 8x8 pan and allow to cool on the counter
before refrigerating. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.

the World Through Travel
… W H I L E AT H O M EEncouraging children to become citizens of the world through an understanding
and appreciation of other countries and cultures is one of the greatest gifts families
can bestow upon their little ones. While firsthand experience is the most rewarding
way to immerse ourselves, when travel is not possible, you can still create interesting
learning experiences at home.
Bring different countries and new cultures into your home with these simple ideas
and resources to prepare for your next family adventure!
T H E D E S T I N AT I O N : Mexico
Approximately 2,400 years ago, the Maya Indians settled in
the Yucatan Peninsula. Their amazing talent for building is
shown through the hundreds of beautiful cities and roads they
created throughout the region. No one knows why the Maya
disappeared, but they have left behind incredible ruins worthy
of a visit when traveling to Cancun and Riviera Maya.
BRING THE EXPERIENCE HOME
➤ Explore Chichen Itza with National Geographic Kids.
➤ Learn about masks of the Maya and make a few of
your own. Younger children might enjoy coloring a
mask using this template.
29T H E D E S T I N AT I O N : Ireland
While Ireland is known for its castles, pubs, and enchanting
music, the lush and captivating Emerald Isle is also the
birthplace of limericks. Limericks are a fun way to introduce
children to rhymes and poetry while celebrating Ireland.
BRING THE EXPERIENCE HOME
➤ Read kid-friendly limericks together.
➤ Try to write your own and have an Irish-style family
poetry slam!
30T H E D E S T I N AT I O N : Germany
Food is the perfect gateway to another destination, and
introducing kids of all ages to simple recipes makes
for fun quality time. Famously delicious, German
pretzels are thick and soft in the middle with a thin
and crunchy crust.
BRING THE EXPERIENCE HOME
➤ Try this recipe to make a tasty traditional German
snack together. Enjoy upbeat German folk music
while you shape and enjoy your pretzels.
31T H E D E S T I N AT I O N : England
Originating among the aristocrats in the 1840s, afternoon
tea was served to stave off hunger and thirst in the long
afternoon hours until dinner was served at 7:30 pm or later.
It is a tradition still enjoyed today. An afternoon tea menu
includes dainty finger sandwiches, scones with clotted
cream and preserves, and assorted cakes and pastries.
BRING THE EXPERIENCE HOME
➤Introduce your children to afternoon tea on a
Saturday afternoon.
➤ Dress up, brush up on your best manners, use the
fine china, and perhaps spark a new family tradition.
T H E D E S T I N AT I O N : Italy
Italy is among the top foodie hot spots. To prepare for a
visit to Italy with the children, why not plan an amazing
themed dinner?
BRING THE EXPERIENCE HOME
➤ Begin with gathering the family in the kitchen to
prepare a delicious meal, such as a steaming pot of
Pasta e Fagioli served with fresh baked bread.
➤ After dinner, settle in with a stack of children’s books
to take a literary journey to the magical country.
