EUROPEAN SYMPOSIUM ON MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY - 2-3 MARCH 2018 - EUROPEAN ...
Welcome note

Dear Colleagues

The members of the Department of General and Visceral
Surgery at the University Medical Center Freiburg welcome
you to the second EUROPEAN SYMPOSIUM on Minimally
Invasive Surgery. Our initiating event in 2016 was a great
success bringing experts in the field together for a fruitful
exchange of ideas and techniques.

Minimally-invasive surgeons continue their pioneering
approach, developing new techniques and strategies for
every organ system of the abdomen. Increasing experience
in applying techniques to perform major resections of all
abdominal organs allows routine, minimally-invasive proce-
dures. Additionally, more and more of these less invasive
procedures are proven to be oncologically non-inferior to
their well-established open counterparts. In recent years,
robotic surgery has also emerged as a promising technical
development for minimally-invasive oncologic surgery.

Our symposium features international experts on oncologic
minimally-invasive surgery who will share with you their
expertise and techniques. The presentations are based on
video sequences illustrating how experts perform these
challenging operations.

We will also discuss the scientific basis of minimally-invasive
surgery and highlight key publications regarding oncologic
laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

We welcome you in beautiful Southern Germany for this
outstanding event and fruitful discussions!

With kind regards

Prof. Dr. Stefan Fichtner-Feigl
Medical Director

Social evening

Weinschlösschen Freiburg
Our social event will take place in the Weinschlösschen,
which is located in the centre of Freiburg. Built in 1874 by
the merchant Joseph Hepting, it initially served as a wine
shop. Hepting first created a wine cellar to store wine in
large, artistically carved wooden barrels and later built a villa
above it. The 7 meter deep cellar offered ideal conditions for
the aging process of wine.
Enjoy a classy dinner accompanied by exceptional wines from
the area in this historical atmosphere!

Merchants‘ Hall
The historical Merchants’ Hall
dates back to the medieval
period.
The old trade route from
Swabia to the Upper Rhine
led directly through the city
of Freiburg. It was a main route
for transporting salt and other
important goods, and passing
merchants had to pay customs at the city gates. Due to the
constant increase in trade and traffic in the 14th century, a
separate building for storage and custom clearance had to
be built. The Merchants’ Hall was first mentioned historically
in 1378, and apart from the City Hall, it was the main point
of commercial and monetary transactions.
