The Cover photo was taken by Harrison at sunset on a summer’s
evening. Faireld’s Shoal Point and Peneld beach can just be
seen on the horizon. Peneld Reef, named after an early Fairfield Sportsplex
prominent Faireld family, has for centuries been a dreaded 85 Mill Plain Rd
hazard to mariners sailing Long Island Sound. Even with a 203-292-8559
modern lighthouse now in position, ashing a strong light as a
warning, it is not unusual for several boats a year to run aground 173 Post Rd
on the reef. Constructed in 1874, Peneld Reef Lighthouse was Fairfield • 203-445-6029
one of the last offshore masonry lights and was placed on the Pick up 9am-5pm, Mon-Fri
National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
