At Brookline Adult & Community Education, we are instituting a theme for each year beginning in the Fall term and culminating in the
Summer term. The theme will shape the year ahead and drive the selection of the lectures, specials, and courses we feature, but will also to
give our staff, students, and faculty something to ponder.

This year’s theme is

We unanimously chose this as our theme because not only is it embedded
in our name, it is an integral part of our mission—to provide quality learning
experiences for the community. We not only provide non-credit courses and
events, but we also aim to collaborate with other local organizations and
businesses.

In a moving passage from If this is a Man, Primo Levy describes a
situation when he and a fellow prisoner in Auschwitz were walking
to pick up the minimal soup for lunch. While walking, Levy recalls
reciting pieces of Dante to his friend. At one point, he could not
remember a particular connecting line. It was so important to him
to remember these lines that he writes he would have given up his
food rations for the day, just to remember. For those few moments,
Levy writes that he forgot who he was and where he was. Citizenship Information Session
