Community Film Night
Wednesday 6th March - 19:30 - 22:00
Steyning Centre, Fletchers Croft, Steyning

Screening KING OF THIEVES

Based on a true story, this comedy drama is about the unlikely
gang of retirees that pulled off the daring Hatton Garden jewellery
heist of 2015.
Developed from Mark Seal's Vanity Fair piece 'The Over the Hill
Mob', the film tells the story of the epic multi-million-pound
robbery initially believed to have been undertaken by a gang of
super-thieves. The actual perpetrators were a group of tough-guy
retired criminals in their late 60s and 70s — with all kinds of physical
maladies — who were mostly unoccupied and bored, until they
consulted a bunch of how-to books and figured out a way to pull off
one last hurrah over a long weekend in April 2015.
Entering the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company property via a
lift shaft, they drilled through the 50cm thick vault walls with heavy
machinery and escaped with a haul estimated to be worth around
£200 million. The stellar cast includes Michael Caine, Charlie Cox, Michael Gambon, Tom Courtenay, Jim
Broadbent and Ray Winstone.
Tickets available from the Steyning Centre at £6.00 which includes tea or coffee during the interval.
Wine can be purchased at £2.50 per glass. Doors open at 19:00 for a 19:30 start.

West Sussex Libraries are running a reading challenge
across the seven Horsham district libraries – Horsham,
   Storrington, Henfield, Steyning, Billingshurst, Pulborough
   and Southwater.
The challenge is to make twelve reading resolutions
that will inspire you, challenge you and connect you to
fellow readers in the district. You can sign up by popping
into any Horsham district library with your library card (or
some ID) or by giving them a call.
Find out how to contact your local library here: https://
   www.westsussex.gov.uk/find-my-nearest/library/
You might want to join as an individual reader, looking to
kick start a reading habit or get out of a reading rut. Or
perhaps you would like to join as part of a reading group. However you choose to be involved, anyone
is welcome to take up the challenge. You can join at any time, and don’t panic if you miss a month – just
read as many as you can and most importantly, enjoy!

   So what is the challenge?
Read a book each month from the following themes:
   • January read a novel based on a real person or event.
   • February read a book published over 100 years ago.
   • March read a collection of short stories.
   • April read a book under 150 pages.
   • May read a book that was banned at some point.
   • June read a translated book.
   • July read a book with a connection to Horsham District.
   • August read a book written by someone under the age of 30.
   • September read a book recommended to you by a friend, librarian or neighbouring book group.
   • October read a prize winning book.
   • November read a children’s classic.
   • December read a book published this year.

Every month, they'll be posting lists of recommended reads and book reviews for books that fit the
themes to their reading challenge blog, which you can find at:
    https://horshamdistrictreadingchallenge.wordpress.com.
They are also inviting local people to submit reviews - you can get in touch by commenting on the blog
posts or using the 'contact us' form on the blog.
For more information and to sign up, pop into Steyning or any other Horsham district library.

Come and meet the ladies of the
Sugar and Spice Club
Washington Village Memorial hall, School lane, Washington
Doors open at 19:00 for a 19:30 start and ends at about 21:30

Our year starts on the 28th February and then monthly on the 4th
Thursday until November.

Come along, we are very happy to have men too (you might find a
new hobby), if you enjoy making cakes and want to learn how to make
them look more spectacular.

Three of our members also have workshops on a Saturday making
them as varied and as much fun as possible.

We have a workshop in October to make small decorated Christmas
fruit cakes for the Salvation Army, which they distribute to lonely folk,
to the homeless and others who
might enjoy something special.
We love making these and some
of our newer members help with
decorating them.

Fees are £25.00 for the year and
£3.00 on the door. This all helps
to pay for our demonstrators,
materials for workshops and we try
to have one outing a year.
