17 APRIL 2019

                  Nyoongar Sport April Holidays

Yesterday around 20 children aged from 4 to 16 braved
the windy weather and came along to participate in
Noongar Sports. We started off with playing basketball
on the recently line marked courts, followed by some
variations of hockey, a couple of games of ‘flinch’ in the
pavilion to get out of the wind for a while then a number
of different games played on the oval, with a break in
between for a healthy lunch of sandwiches and a
selection of fruit. Thank you to Dylan Garlett and his
crew from Noongar Sports who come down from Perth
each holidays to run this program for the kids in
conjunction with the Shire who provides the lunch. It is
great to see local families continue to support this
                                  program.

                        SHIRE CONSTRUCTION UPDATES
CORONATION PARK UPDATE
Works have been progressing with the upgrades to Coronation Park which has been funded by Lotterywest and the Shire of
Kondinin. To date the landscaping and pathways have been installed, the concrete pads for the new shelter, BBQ, seating and
bins have been laid and the new infrastructure has been ordered and on its way.

By the end of April 2019 the exercise equipment should be installed and the bike path completed. It is then anticipated that by
the end of May 2019 the other new infrastructure shall have arrived and be installed. It is proposed that in the next financial year
new shelters are investigated over the playground to ensure most of the playground equipment can be under shade during the
warmer months. Once this is all completed it is hoped that this public place becomes one that all can be respected and enjoyed
by locals and tourists alike.

HYDEN REVITALISATION PLAN
The upgrades to Coronation Park were part of the Revitalisation Plan and as outlined above have almost been completed.
During the drainage works around town the car parking section along the shops facing McPherson Street have been upgraded
as part of the recommendation of the Revitalisation Plan. Depending on the 2019/2020 Shire Budget, Council will continue to
use the Plan to implement the remaining recommendations. The first being to extend a continuous pathway from McPherson
Street along Marshall Street to meet up with the Wave Rock Bike Path. The Shire has been successful with receiving grant
funding from the Department of Transport to assist in this pathway upgrade. Other projects for consideration recommended in
the Plan include upgrades to the swimming pool car park, upgrades to the CWA grounds and the development of some public
art in the town centre to tie in with the Hyden Centenary 2022.

A copy of the plan for Coronation Park and the Hyden Revitalisation Plan can be viewed on the Shire’s website
www.kondinin.wa.gov.au under ‘Council Documents’ or a hard copy is at the Hyden Library. For any queries relating to this
project please contact the Shire’s Manager Planning and Development, Tory Young on 9889 1006 or mpd@kondinin.wa.gov.au

DRAINAGE WORKS
The drainage works and associated road re-surfacing in the Hyden Town Site commenced on the 5th March 2019 and apart for
some tidying up in places have now largely been completed. It is anticipated that this will now greatly improve the flow of water
throughout the town. There are still a couple of areas around town, including the area around the Hyden CRC that did not fall
within the scope of the original drainage plans of which are proposed to be considered in the 2019/2020 financial year.
