Created in 1957. 2 labs nuclear spectroscopy and mass
spectroscopy merging in 1962 ! CSNSM (1st fusion !)

René Bernas, director at the time, Klapisch, Gradztajn,Epherre and Yiou measured p(He)+12C
(16O) cosmic ray spallation cross sections to explain problematic Li, Be, B abundances which
helped to establish the credibility of Big Bang theory
1975 !Landmark on-line mass spectrometry at CERN, C.Thibault et al. 1975, discovered first
island of inversion >700 citations
1976 ! solid state physics, ion separators to implantors (amorpheous matter, doping supra…)
1983 - 2016 Atomic mass evaluation (Audi-Wapstra Mass Table) >1000 citations
1986 ! ARAMIS was built to study disorders in materials modified with ions
1992 ! dark matter with bolometers ! EDELWEISS…
