THE WHY
Before we jump in, it’s important
to take a step back and reflect
on your “why.” Whether it’s a
loved one you’ve lost or one you
never want to lose, we all have a
reason why we’re
#HeartWalking.

2019 Heart HeroWHAT IS HEART WALK?
Simply put, Heart Walk is a one-day event
and a year-round movement.
Organizations participate through
sponsorship and/or creating Heart Walk
Fundraising Teams like yours.
Heart Walk Teams come in all shapes and
sizes, and are a great way to cultivate a
culture of health in your company. Once your company is set-up on the Heart Walk website
you can create one team or multiple teams. Consider creating one per department or one per
facility to create some friendly competition. All funds raised by your Teams and Walkers will
roll up to your Company's overall fundraising total.

Recognize
Encourage your team along the way by recognizing milestones
and sending shout-outs to top participants.FUNDRAISING IDEAS Business Partner Campaign: Send emails/letters to vendors, clients, or other business partners asking them to support your efforts and the American Heart Association. Follow-up is key and AHA can provide email templates. Life Is Why We Give Campaign: Get your customers involved by providing the option for them to make a donation or round up their purchase at checkout. AHA can provide marketing materials to promote this campaign. Matching Gifts: Double your impact by seeing if your company already offers employee matching or would be willing to match funds raised for the Heart Walk. Remind your donors to check on matching gifts as well! Event Add-on: Does your company already have an annual picnic, festival, or employee event? How can you incorporate a fundraiser into one of these? Company T-Shirts: Employees raise or donate $25 to receive a company t-shirt to wear at the Heart Walk! This is a great way for your company to get brand recognition at the event, and you could even allow your employees to wear the shirts to work every Friday leading up to the Heart Walk as an extra incentive! Spirit Night: Know any local restaurant owners that would be willing to host a give- back night? This is a great way for employees to spend time together outside the office over breakfast, lunch, or dinner! Jeans Day: Donate $25 and receive a pass to wear jeans to work. Sports Pass: Donate $25 to wear your favorite sports team's jersey to work. Snack Sale: Sell heart-healthy snacks, baked goods or other company favorites in your break room or lobby for employees and/or clients. Pot Luck Lunch: Have employees sign up to bring a lunch item on a chosen date. Email the company letting them know that “lunch is taken care of on [DATE] for $10.” This is a great way to foster a collaborative culture and fundraise for your Heart Walk team! C-Suite Car Wash: Schedule a date and time for a C-Suite Car Wash in the parking lot. Employees pay $5 to have their cars washed by the C-Suite team! Dunk Tank/Pie in the Face: This is a great way to have some fun with your coworkers if you can convince your leadership team or supervisors to participate in a Dunk Tank or Pie in the Face fundraiser one afternoon! Penny Wars: Kick-off some friendly competition with a “Penny Wars” contest between teams or departments. Coins can be donated to add points to your team, and dollar bills can count as negative points against other teams. This same concept could be used as votes where teams or individuals participate in a Pet Photo Contest, Office/Cubicle-decorating Contest or other competition. “Move More” Workout Series: Reach out to a local gym or yoga studio to secure an instructor to lead a 4 week workout series. Exercise type could be consistent or try out a different one each week to encourage employees to find a workout that “works out” for their unique strengths and abilities!
FUNDRAISING IDEAS Heart Sales: Use AHA hearts (we will provide them!) that come in three colors to display donations made in support or memory of someone affected by heart disease or stroke. Sell hearts for a suggested donation and display them in your lobby for clients to see what your company is doing in the community when they come in! Letter Campaign: Send letters to your birthday or holiday list asking for their support of your fundraising campaign. Salsa Contest: Employees enter their favorite family dip or salsa recipe for $5. Employees can participate in a “tasting” for $5 and vote on their favorite recipe! (This could be done with any other food items as well!) March Madness: Coordinate a March Madness-style tournament with a $10 buy-in. Depending on the activity (ping pong, jump rope, basketball, Spikeball, hula hooping, Minute To Win It games, etc.) employees can either participate individually or in teams. You could even get prizes for the top winners! B-I-N-G-O/Trivia Tournament: Host a game of B-I-N-G-O or trivia during lunch or after hours. Trivia can be themed around movies, TV shows, company facts or the AHA. Employees pay $5 to enter the tournament or per B-I-N-G-O card. Walking Group: Start a walking group with your co-workers and friends and encourage a donation of $25. If you made the donation you are more likely to hold yourself accountable to show up to walk! Auction: Hold an auction at your office. Make a few calls to get some items donated or have each team enter a basket/item. Have the auction over the lunch hour and the top bidders win or even display some items in your lobby area for clients or vendors to participate. 100 Reasons to Give: Create a wall with 100, 50, or 25 numbered envelopes in your lobby or break room. Employees or clients donate the amount corresponding to the envelope number to reveal what’s inside. Envelopes could contain heart-healthy facts, photos of employees, or fun facts about the company! Make it fun! Provide prizes and incentives along the way for top teams and top individual fundraisers!
