WELCOME TO
LEEDS BECKETT
A message from the Vice Chancellor

Welcome to Leeds Beckett and thank you for your interest in
our university.
We are a world-class university, featured in the Times Higher Education
World University Rankings 2019. Since the early 19th century, we have
been successfully combining an academic education with its practical
application. We continue to collaborate with thousands of regional,
national and international businesses to ensure our research and
courses are contemporary, rich and relevant; they meet the needs of
our students and their present or future employers. We believe this
is why 95% of all our UK graduates are in work or further study six
months after graduating*.
Our ambitions for the future are demonstrated by a significant
investment in our academic facilities, with two major developments
due for completion, one in winter 2019/20 and the other in autumn/
winter 2020. These outstanding new buildings will enhance our creative
and sport provision and provide expansion space for many of our
academic schools, further strengthening our teaching and research
activities across a range of subject areas.
We recognise that academic success is a partnership between teachers
and learners. I hope that what you discover about our courses and our
academic approach provides you with the confidence to join us and
combine your ambition with ours.
If you would like to know more about us, please follow the links to more
detailed information on our website. And don’t hesitate to get in touch
with us. We’ll be pleased to talk.

HEADINGLEY
CAMPUS
A leafy haven in a lively and thriving community.
All within reach of the city centre.

Set in nearly 100 acres of beautiful parkland and only minutes from
the city centre, our Headingley Campus is home to five academic
schools, Carnegie Village accommodation and a new £45million sports
teaching and research facility for Carnegie School of Sport, opening in
winter 2019/20.
The School of Computing, Creative Technology & Engineering’s
laboratories provide equipment to support electrical and electronic
engineering and include industry-proven technologies. Our computing
technology lab, a partnership with global technology giant Avaya, brings
business to the heart of the campus so our students solve real-world
problems with industry specification tools. 03 04

Students on environmental courses gain valuable experience
working with plants, planting design, ecology, environmental art and
construction at the landscape resource centre.
The Carnegie School of Education’s simulated classrooms allow you to
practice your teaching in early years, art and design and sciences.
Write, mix, produce and record your own music in music studios or
produce animated content in the motion capture studio.
Carnegie Pavilion teaching facility is a short walk away at the world-

and rugby fixtures.

CITY
CAMPUS
The city campus makes a striking contribution
to the city’s skyline.

The campus is home to eight academic schools and the location
of the £80 million creative arts building, opening in autumn/winter 2020.
Inside, our students apply their learning in professional-quality
facilities, including biomedical laboratories, a courtroom, a financial
trading floor and an innovative clinical skills suite.
The Hydra suite puts students in the shoes of decision-makers during
realistic crisis simulations, aiming to improve decision-making, critical
thinking and communication skills.
                                                                            03 04
Law students hone their legal expertise in purpose-built facilities
that include a realistic courtroom and the Law Clinic where they give
real legal advice to the general public.
Our clinical skills suite has been designed to meet the learning
needs of a range of health professionals, with specialist equipment in
purpose-built rooms enabling a variety of sessions to be carried out
in a suitable and safe environment.
Practical sessions in our biomedical sciences laboratories allow
you to put theory into practice using a range of biomechanical,
microbiological, molecular and physiological analysis equipment.
Our art, architecture and design studios provide space for individual and
group projects and facilities, while our 3D printer and laser cutters
can also be used for model making, plastic forming, plasma cutting
and 3D sculptures.
