KHELO INDIA UNIVERSITY GAMES 2020
The first edition of the Khelo India University Games will be held from February 22
to March 1 in Odisha under the aegis of Sports Authority of India and Ministry of Youth Affairs
and Sports in collaboration with the Odisha State Government. The host university will be the
Bhubaneswar-based Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT).
This will be a first of its kind for University Games in the country where the youth of
the country (age group 17 to 25 years) will get to showcase their prowess at the university level
comprising of 177 participating universities, 3340 athletes, 17 competition managers and
more than 2500 other officials which include volunteers, technical officials and support staff
across 17 sports namely Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Fencing, Judo, Swimming, Weightlifting,
Wrestling, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, Rugby
and Kabaddi. Fencing and Rugby will be featured for the first time at a Khelo India competition.
Among the prestigious universities that will be participating at this nine-day long
event which will be held in 10 venues in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, include Panjab University;
Punjabi university, Chandigarh; Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar; University of Delhi;
Shivaji University, Kolhapur; University of Calicut; University of Calcutta; Jain University,
Bangalore; University of Mumbai; SRM University, Chennai; SPPU, Pune among several
other universities across the country.
A number of prominent athletes including Srihari Nataraj (Swimming, Jain
University), Dutee Chand (Athletics, KIIT), Jisna Matthew (Athletics, University of Calicut),
Komolika Bari (Archery, Kolhan University of Jharkhand), T Inungabi (Judo, Manipur
University), Muskan Kirar (Archery, Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya), Shikha Gautam
(Badminton, Jain University) and Arockiya Alish (Weighlifting, Manonmaniam Sundaranar
University) will be participating at the event.
10 sports will be held within the KIIT University Campus, Badminton and Table
Tennis will be held at JN Indoor Stadium, Cuttack; Athletics and Swimming will be held at the
Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Fencing and Judo will be held at the SAI-Odisha,
Badminton Academy while Football will be held at SAI International Residential School in
Cuttack. Nine sports Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Hockey, Kabaddi, Volleyball,
Weightlifting and Table Tennis will be telecast live.

1HOST CITY
BHUBANESWAR
Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha state, is a thriving city endowed with rich cultural
heritage and architectural splendours. The facade of Bhubaneswar was changed into a
modern and planned city by German Architect, Otto. H. Kongsberg. Today, the city is abuzz
with inclusive growth and boasting as a hub of IT, Education and Tourism. Bhubaneswar has
been ranked No.1 on the list of 100 Smart Cities of India. After hosting the Odisha Hockey
Men's World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018, the city has been recognized as the "Best State for
Promotion of Sports In India".
Also known as the Temple City of India, one can study the chronological development of
temple architecture of Bhubaneswar from 6th to 13th century AD. Even today, there are about
350 temples in various stages of perservation. The oldest recorded temple of
Parasurameswar is also present in Bhubaneswar. This is also the place where Buddhism took
a historical turn after the Kalinga war and it became an international religion after Emperor
Ashoka embraced Buddhism at Dhauli near the war site and a peace pagoda has been built
there in early 1970s. Endowed with old world charms and modern day glamour, Bhubaneswar
is well set to welcome visitors from everywhere with equanimity.
Food in Bhubaneswar: Lobsters, Prawns, Crab and Fish are found in abundance. For
vegetarians, Bhubaneswar offers something special called "Dalma", a dish prepared with
lentils and vegetables - is an absolute treat to savour. Don't forget to treat yourself to sweets
like "Chenopoda" and "Rassougulla".
Shopping in Bhubaneswar: Ekamra Haat, Odisha State Handloom Co-operative, Utkalika,
Forum Mart, BMC Bhawani and the high street markets of Janpath.
Tourist Attractions in and around Bhubaneswar: Lingaraja Temple, Nandankanan Zoo,
EkamraKanan, Odisha State Museum & Tribal Museum, Konark Sun Temple, Chandrabhaga
Beach, The ASI Museum, Konark Festival (held annually from 1st - 5th December), Jagannath
Temple in Puri, Dhaulli, Udaygiri & Khandagiri Caves, Chilika Lake.

2KALINGA INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY
Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology deemed to be University, is one of the
premier universities in the eastern part of the country offering more than 200 academic
programmes in diverse fields of Education. It was established as a Polytechnic Institute in
1992-93. However, with 1997 as its base year, the engineering college was set up. It was
conferred with deemed to be University Status by Ministry of Human Resources
Development, Government of India in 2004.
In 2016, it has been re-accredited with “A” Grade by National Accreditation and
Assessment Council (NAAC), India. It has also been conferred with category “A” status by
Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India in the same year. Eight
undergraduate Engineering Courses have been accredited by NBA (Washington Accord) in
the year 2018-19.
The university has 20 thriving campuses with 30,000 students from all over India and 55
countries across the globe. It has achieved several milestones in a short span which includes
Institution of Eminence Tag, 1001+ Times Higher Education World University Ranking, 301+
Times Higher Education University Impact Ranking, placed among top 300 in QS BRICS
Ranking, accredited by IET, UK to name a few. It has been ranked seven out of top ten
universities in India. It has carved a niche for itself in the global academic map by having
MoU’s with more than 190 universities in the world. More than 60,000 alumni of KIIT are
placed in respectable positions in the corporate world, enterprise, startups, academics, civil
services, sports, politics and so on.

INSTRUCTIONS
MORNING SNACKS
• Players and support staff will receive morning snacks (tea & biscuits) at their respective
hostels.
BREAKFAST
• All players and support staff reporting for ALL sports are to have breakfast at KIIT Central
Catering Area Campus 13 and then proceed to their respective venues. This is for ALL
athletes and support staff for sports conducted in and outside KIIT campus.
• Transportation: For hostels with distance more than 800m from central catering area,
shuttle buses will be provided for transportation of the players and supports staff to KIIT
Central Catering Area - Campus 13. For Sports being conducted outside KIIT Campus
(Kalinga stadium, Multipurpose - Sports Hall Saheed Nagar, JLN Indoor Stadium Cuttack)
dedicated sport discipline vehicle will transport players and support staff from respective
hostels to central catering area and then to their respective venues.
LUNCH
• All players and support staff reporting for sports happening in KIIT Campus venues to
have lunch at KIIT Central Catering Area Campus 13 and then proceed to their respective
playing venues. This is applicable for players and support staff of Archery, Tennis and
Wrestling as well.
• For all players and support staff reporting for sports outside KIIT Campus venues, lunch
will be served at their respective venues. Players and support staff can inform in advance
if their matches are not scheduled on particular days for catering to be provisioned at KIIT
Central Catering Area Campus 13.
• Transportation: For Archery, Tennis, and Wrestling (that are 1.5 kms away), the dedicated
sport discipline vehicle will shuttle from venues to central catering area and back.

12EVENING SNACKS
• All players and support staff reporting for sports in KIIT Campus venues are to have
evening snacks at respective venues or KIIT Central Catering Area Campus 13.
• For all players and support staff reporting for sports outside KIIT Campus venues, evening
snacks will be served at their respective venues.
DINNER
• All players and support staff reporting for ALL sports are to have dinner at KIIT Central
Catering Area Campus 13 and then proceed to their respective hostels. This is for ALL
athletes and support staff for sports conducted in and outside KIIT campus. Food Coupons
given have to be utilised for entry to the catering area.
• Transportation: For hostels with distance more than 800m from central catering area, shuttle
buses will be provided for transportation of the players and supports staff to KIIT Central
Catering Area - Campus 13. For Sports being conducted outside KIIT Campus, dedicated
sport discipline vehicle will transport players and support staff from respective venues to
