LA RIOJA
La Rioja is a small Autonomous
Community, in the centre-north of Spain.
It is close to major cities such as
Bilbao, Zaragoza, Barcelona and
Madrid.

La Rioja has a total area of 5,045 km² and a population of 315,000.
La Rioja is in the middle of the Ebro Valley.
It is crossed by the Way of St. James, the pilgrims’
route to Santiago de Compostela.

La Rioja boasts one of the best collections of
dinosaur footprint fossils in the world.

San Millán Suso and Yuso Monasteries
The first spanish writtens were found here, so La Rioja is
considered to be the cradle of the spanish language.
The Monasteries were declared a World Heritage site in 1996.
LA RIOJA & WINE
Rioja wine is famous around the world and La Rioja is “the
.land with a name of wine”.
Its geographical location on the Ebro Valley, its climate
conditions and the make up of the soil have turned this a
privileged area for growing grapes.
The culture of wine is deeply-rooted in
Rioja towns.
In La Rioja you can “feel” wine, without
drinking it.
LA RIOJA & WINE Over time, we have gone from family cellars dug out of the earth or live rock, many of which still exist throughout La Rioja, to the large wine making centres.
The capital of La Rioja is Logroño.
Logroño
Logroño is crossed by the river Ebro and the
“Camino de Santiago”.
Born from the relationship between Riojan
wine and the Pilgrim Route to Compostela.
LOGROÑO Logroño is the capital of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja. The population of the city is around 150.000 inhabitants.
The places you should not miss in Logroño Co-cathedral of La Redonda, “El mercado” Square and “Portales” street “El Espolón” Square and the Its delicious cuisine and statue of General “Espartero” “Laurel” Street
The most known Street in Logroño is Laurel Street
It is called “La Laurel” to a net of streets with about a hundred bars and
restaurants, which offer the greatest imaginable range of culinary
specialities: pinchos.
Friends, families, workmates, everybody meet in La Laurel to run away from
the daily routine or simply to taste a good pincho with good riojan wine.The mainly fiestas of Logroño are called “San Mateos”
The beginning of San Mateos are on 21
September.
These fiestas are celebrated because of the
harvest of the grapes in order to make wine.
One of the most singularly act is the treaded of the
grapes to obtain the first grape juice or “must”, which
will be offered to our Lady of Valvanera, patrón saint

The University library offers a very diverse collection of high scientific value. It is made up of more than 370,000 copies (books, periodicals, audiovisual materials, microforms ...) and offers access to more than 6,000 electronic journals and databases. Acquisitions respond to the needs of the university community, which can participate in the purchasing process. All the information related to the management of the collections is included in the Collection Management Plan.
Organization of the collection A large part of the bibliographic funds are freely accessible. The monographs (books, audiovisuals, etc.) are organized by subject, according to their own alphanumeric classification. Within each block of subjects, the funds are ordered, in most cases, by the date of publication, so that the most recently published books remain at the end of each discipline. There are some exceptions such as creation books and classics, whose ordering is done by the names of the authors. The periodicals located on the floors are organized by large subject groups. Within each group, the ordering is alphabetical by titles. The materials located in the semi-basement tanks are organized in a correlative manner, since they are not freely accessible.
