My best wishes for your good health and safety.
My comments here are addressed to everyone: parents, caregivers, students and staff. Our first action is to
check that you and your children and whanau are not stressed out and to reassure you that ‘we have got this’
and are doing our very best to ensure that it will be possible to have a successful year 2020.
 • A free app to check wellbeing is a N.Z. one with Sir John Kirwan called MENTEMIA.
 • If you wish to make responses or comments to me, please do so j.clarke@rosehillcollege.school.nz.
Senior Leaders and Staff are at their laptops throughout the working day.
LEVEL 3 RETURN TO CAMPUS - Date to be announced on Monday
 • The School needs to be deep cleaned for 2 days before anybody returns on site.
 • Y9-10 students may attend but if they can continue to work from home they should.
 • We will offer safe supervision of students continuing to do the remote work teachers have set for them.
 • No buses, no Canteen, short breaks, 1m distance, no practicals, own protection & sanitiser.
 • We are seeking clarification of possible on-site conditions for the safety and wellbeing of Staff and students and will
determine those on Monday and inform you.
 • We will survey families on Monday for an indication as to whether they require their children to come to school and if
    they require bus transport.
Please take time over the weekend to consider what your decision will be for when Level 3 happens.
Mrs Blakely, who is now on her much-deserved sabbatical, has done a superb job of preparing us for this Term and is still
continuing to assist; especially with the work in conjunction with her Assistant Ms Herst to order devices, modems and hard
copy resources for our students who do not have online access.
SCHOOLWORK & PROGRESS
It has been frantic with many people working through every day so far which is why a routine is important. Following your
school timetable can help but whatever order things are done is secondary to ‘knuckling down’, completing set work and
turning up for any scheduled lessons. Teachers are more than ever being really helpful and I am confident that we are step-
by-step putting in place opportunities for students to gain success in every subject. I have sent out and posted on the website
guidelines for students and parents/caregivers.
ROUTINE
Probably the greatest need is to find the motivation to do work when you’re isolated from a physical class and face-to-face
contact. Sticking to a routine of work times and break times and activity time is good practice. Also take the time to gather
thoughts and process and synthesize ideas.
ENSURING SUCCESS THIS YEAR
2020 is not going to be a normal year. We have already made subject course work plans for changes that will best create
conditions to achieve and achieve well. Catch-up times will be created. There may be fewer or different assessments in a
course. There will be an impact ‘down the track’ but we’re working hard to minimise that. So more than ever are the needs to
finish everything, work to a level of excellence and get everything from what is on offer that you can.
TUTOR GROUP FRIDAY
Today, Friday was our first Tutor Group Focus day where teachers and Heads of House checked on the progress and wellbeing
of students. It’s important that people check that others are ok. It allows some designated time away from the demands of
schoolwork and a chance to connect with others through challenges and activities that Head Students and House Leaders are
providing through Instagram.
I applaud all of your efforts. We are great people doing great things through the best forms of remote communication.
Through experience I know that Rosehill College rises to the challenge in a crisis. Ka Kite ano.
