What is CSIR UGC NET?
CSIR UGC NET is a national level entrance examination for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
and Eligibility for Lectureship (LS) in the field of Science including Life Sciences, Physical
Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Earth Atmospheric Ocean and Planetary
Sciences. National Testing Agency on behalf of The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research
(CSIR) will be conducting CSIR-UGC NET 2020 June examination in CBT mode to determine
the eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for Lectureship (LS) /Assistant
Professorship’ in Indian universities and colleges.
The applications for the same can be submitted through online mode from March 16 to April 16,
2020. CSIR UGC NET 2020 June Exam will be conducted on June 21, 2020.
How many attempts for CSIR UGC NET?
There is no limit on number of attempts for CSIR NET (JRF) exam. Students can keep appearing
for exam till the age of 28 years for general and for SC/ST/Persons with Disability (PwD)/ female
applicant till the age of 33 years and 31 years in case of OBC (Non-Creamy Layer).
Difference between CSIR NET and UGC NET?
CSIR NET and UGC NET are both government exams conducted by different bodies. CSIR NET
is conducted by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research while UGC NET is conducted by
University Grants Commission. The CSIR NET conducted for the Science stream, including Life
Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Earth Atmospheric
Ocean and Planetary Sciences. Whereas the UGC NET is conducted for all the other streams.
How many times CSIR NET Exam is conducted in a year?
The tests are conducted twice in a year on all India basis generally in the months of June and
December.

What is the eligibility for CSIR NET exam? Who can apply?
  ✓ Candidates must be an Indian National

  ✓ Candidates should have M.Sc. or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/BS-4
    years/B.E/B.Tech/Pharma/MBBS with at least 55% marks for General (UR) and OBC
    candidates and 50% for SC/ST, Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates.

  ✓ Candidates enrolled for M.Sc. or having completed 10+2+3 years of the above qualifying
    examination as on the closing date of online submission of application form, are also
    eligible to apply in the above subject under the Result Awaited (RA) category on the
    condition that they complete the qualifying degree with requisite percentage of marks
    within the validity period of two years to avail the fellowship from the effective date of
    award. B.Sc. (Hons) or equivalent degree holders or students enrolled in Integrated MS-
    PhD program with at least 55% marks for General (UR) and OBC candidates; 50% marks
    for SC/ST, Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates are also eligible to apply.
  ✓ Candidates with bachelor’s degree will be eligible for CSIR fellowship only after getting
    registered/ enrolled for PhD/Integrated PhD program within the validity period of two
years. Candidates possessing only Bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply only for Junior
     Research Fellowship (JRF) and not for Lectureship (LS).
   ✓ Specification of degrees (whether Bachelor’s or Master’s) as notified by UGC in its
     Gazette Notification No. F. 5-1/2013 (CPP-II) dated 5th July, 2014 and as amended from
     time to time, shall apply.
   ✓ The eligibility for lectureship/ Assistant Professor of NET qualified candidates will be
     subject to fulfilling the criteria laid down by UGC. PhD degree holders who have passed
     Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991 with at least 50% marks are eligible to
     apply for Lectureship/ Assistant Professor only.

Can a final year MSc student apply for CSIR UGC NET?
Yes, M.Sc. qualification OR under M.Sc. Result Awaited (RA) category shall be eligible for
Lectureship (LS) subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria as laid down by the UGC. This means
that the Candidates enrolled for M.Sc. or having completed 10+2+3 years of the above qualifying
examination as on the closing date of online submission of application form, are also eligible to
apply.
   ▪   Age Limit

JRF                   ✓ Maximum 28 years as on 01.01.2020
                   upper age limit may be relaxable in following cases-
                     ✓ Up to 5 years in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disability (PwD)/
                       female applicants.
                     ✓ 03 years in case of OBC (Non Creamy Layer) applicants.

Lectureship          ✓ No upper age limit.

Exam sessions              The CSIR NET entrance exam will be held in two sessions;

 First session             9:30 am to 12:30 pm
Second session            02:30 pm to 05:30 pm

Duration              of 180 minutes (03 hours)
Examination

Type of Question          All the parts will consist of objective type, multiple choice
                          questions.

Question Paper            The question paper shall be divided into three parts.

What is the CSIR NET Syllabus and Exam pattern?

 •   The Test will be held in for five subjects viz., Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Earth,
     Physical Sciences Chemical Sciences, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences

 •   The MCQ test paper of each subject shall carry a maximum of 200 marks; the exam shall be for
     the duration of three hours and will be held in two sessions; morning 09.00 AM to 12.00 noon
     and afternoon 02.00 PM to 05.00 PM

 •   The Question will be available in Hindi & English Version.

 •   The Test shall be divided into three parts, (A, B & C) as per syllabus & Scheme of Exam.
        ✓ Part 'A' shall be common to all subjects. This part shall contain questions pertaining to
           General Aptitude with emphasis on logical reasoning, graphical analysis, analytical and
           numerical ability, quantitative comparison, series formation, puzzles etc.

        ✓ Part 'B' shall contain subject-related conventional Multiple Choice questions (MCQs),
          generally covering the topics given in the syllabus.

        ✓ Part 'C’ shall contain higher value questions that may test the candidate's knowledge of
          scientific concepts and/or application of the scientific concepts. The questions shall be of
          analytical nature where a candidate is expected to apply the scientific knowledge to arrive
          at the solution to the given scientific problem.

Is there negative marking in CSIR NET Exam?
Yes, there is negative marking for wrong answers and shall be applicable as per subject wise
scheme of Exam.

   ▪   CSIR UGC NET 2020 June Application Process
    ✓ Candidates can apply for Joint CSIR-UGC NET June 2020 through “Online” mode.

    ✓ Submission of Online Application Form may be done by accessing NTA
      website https://csirnet.nta.nic.in/. Application Form in any other mode will not be
      accepted.

    ✓ Only one application is to be submitted by a candidate.

    ✓ Candidates must follow the instructions strictly as given in the Information Bulletin
      and on NTA website. Candidates not complying with the instructions shall be
      summarily disqualified.

    ✓ Candidates must ensure that Email Address and Mobile Number provided in the
      Online Application Form are their own as all information/ communication will be
      sent by NTA through e-mail on the registered e-mail address or SMS on registered
      Mobile Number only.
What all document to be uploaded in CSIR NET Application?
The following Documents are required to be uploaded during filling the online application
form

  ✓   Scanned Signature JPEG/JPG format

  ✓   Qualifying final/last mark sheet or testimonials

What are the steps for applying online for CSIR NET?
  ✓ Candidates should apply online only on CSIR-HRDG website: www.csirhrdg.res.in

  ✓ A candidate may apply either for ‘Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)’ OR ‘Lectureship (LS)’.
  ✓ He/she may indicate his/her preference in the Online Application, as the case may be.

  ✓ Candidates must write their name, father/mother's name as written in their Matriculation
    Certificate (Xth class Board) and should ensure that the same are matching with their
    educational qualification certificates and caste certificate except for married females.
  ✓ Married female candidates are required to send scanned copy of their marriage certificates
    along with any other documents as proof through e-mail to: examunit@csirhrdg.res.in as and
    when asked for by CSIR-HRDG.
  ✓ All Caste/PwD Certificates shall be strictly as per Govt. of India instructions. The validity of
    OBC certificates (Non creamy layer) shall be governed as per Govt. of India instructions.
  ✓ After successful submission of ONLINE Application, an Application Number will be auto
    generated.
  ✓ Candidates are advised to preserve the Application Number for future reference and for
    downloading his/her e-Admit Card. Candidate should also keep a print (hardcopy) of the duly
    filled in application form for future use.

Note: Before applying Online, candidates are advised to go through the detailed instructions
contained in this Information Bulletin CAREFULLY.

    ▪   Examination Centers

  ✓ It is mandatory for candidates to select four cities of their choice while filling Online
    Application Form of Joint CSIR-UGC NET June 2020.

  ✓ Effort will be made to allot Centre of examination to the candidates in order of the City choice
    opted by them in their Application Form. However, due to administrative reasons, a different
    city or nearby area may be allotted.
▪   CSIR NET 2020 June Admit Card

    ✓ Appearing candidates of CSIR UGC NET June 2020, can download their admit cards from
      the official website www.csirnet.nta.nic.in

    ✓ Admit Card will be issued from 15th May, 2020. The candidates have to enter their
      application form number and date of birth to download their admit card.

    ✓ No hard copy of admit cards will be issued to any candidate. Candidates need to carry
      their admit cards along with them to the exam center.

Will Admit Cards be sent by post?
 No, Admit Card will not be sent by post. Candidates are required to download the e-Admit Cards
from the website www.csirhrdg.res.in.

What documents are to be carried on CSIR NET Examination day?
Candidates are required to bring a photo identity card such as voter ID Card/PAN Card/Driving
License /Aadhaar Card/Photo ID Card issued PSU/Central/State Govt./ID Card issued by
University/ College, along with a printout of their online e-Admit Card on the day of examination.

When will you get the answer key of CSIR UGC NET?
As soon as the exam is conducted, a lot of website releases their answer keys. Apart from that the
official website of CSIR exam https://www.csirhrdg.res.in/also displays their answer keys which
are made available for a time period of one week. Maximum number of aspirants relies on this link
since the official website itself releases it.

   ▪   CSIR NET 2020 Result

    ✓ Two separate merit lists-
      One consisting of the candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship
      (JRF-NET).
      The second, of those candidates qualifying the Eligibility Test for Lectureship (LS-NET),
      will be made on the basis of their performance in the above Test.
✓ Candidates qualifying for JRF (NET), will also be eligible for Lectureship (NET) subject
      to fulfilling the eligibility criteria laid down by UGC.

    ✓ The candidates qualifying for Lectureship will be eligible to be considered for recruitment
      as Lecturers as well as for Junior Research Fellowship in a Scheme/Project, if otherwise
      suitable.

How do they decide the cut-off marks for the CSIR NET JRF Exam?
This exam has fixed number of seats every year and on that basis, they decide the cut-off.

How much stipend is given when one clears CSIR NET exam?
The stipend of a JRF selected through CSIR- National Eligibility Test (NET) will be Rs.31,000/-
p.m. for the first two years. In addition, an annual contingent grant of Rs.20,000/- per Fellow will
be provided to the University / Institution. The Fellowship will be governed by terms and
conditions of CSIR, UGC or Research Scheme, as applicable.
On Completion of two years as JRF and if the Fellow is registered for Ph.D., the Fellowship will
be upgraded to SRF (NET) and the stipend will be increased to Rs.35,000/- p.m for the 3rd and
subsequent years, on the basis of assessment of Fellows’ research progress/ achievements through
interview by an Expert Committee consisting of the Guide, Head of the Department and External
Member from outside the University/ Institution who is an expert in the relevant field, not below
the rank of Professor/ Associate Professor.
