         Bedford Swan Hotel is running its own Alice in Wonderland week from July 6th - 12th to mark the
         150th anniversary celebrations of the publication of the book.

10th    Hidden History: An Archaeological Amble Around Bedford
        Meet at The Higgins Bedford, Castle Lane

        Join a walk back in time and discover the wealth of archaeological heritage hidden under our feet
        within Bedford town centre. Starting at The Higgins Bedford the walk will explore Ice Age
        mammals, Saxon churches, medieval fortifications and Bedford Castle, the site of an important and
        bloody power struggle. We will end up back at The Higgins where we can get up close to some of
        the archaeological artefacts found in Bedford, on display in the Settlement Gallery. The walk is

11th     The wonder of Alice

         Bedford Swan Hotel is running its own Alice in Wonderland week from July 6th - 12th to mark the
         150th anniversary celebrations of the publication of the book.
         As part of the celebrations an "Adult Alice" night is being held on the Riverside Terrace on Saturday July
         11th for 'grown-ups only'. This evening is being promoted now to the audiences of the independent Alice in

        totally eco-friendly. The delicious ice cream is made on a local dairy farm using the highest quality

        Pinch Theatre Company was founded by Sophie Poyntz-Lloyd, Rachel Sherborne, Zoe Davey and
        Sam Skinner. The production explores the concept of social media taking over the relationships
        between humans as we know it. Taking inspiration from George Orwell’s novel, 1984, the
        performance explores the possibility of how technology and social media could develop from the
        present convenience it is now to a psychological and physical dependency in the future.

       Many stage plays and the popular film have told a romantic and often fictional account of his story.

       Merrick’s final years in The London Hospital, Whitechapel and his complicated relationship with his
       doctor, Frederick Treves.

       BedfordBID businesses supporting the three spectacular concerts this summer include:
       Bedfordshire on Sunday, Keens Shay Keens, Mayfair Insurance & Mortgage, The Higgins Pantry
       The Pad will be presenting Parklive which will include legendary band The Happy Mondays
       headlining the Friday night concert.
       The second day of the concert three day spectacular brings the much-loved Bedford Proms in the
       Park back this year in the heart of Bedford at the location it all began - Bedford Park.
       With special guest soloists Daniel Koek (formerly Jean Val Jean in Les Miserables) and Sony
       Classical act Charlotte Jaconelli as well as soprano Emily Haig, The London Gala Orchestra and The
       Bedford Choral Society. Local Choirs from Pilgrims Pre Prep School and Bedford Youth Choir will
       be warming up the crowds to begin the night’s entertainment. A fantastic firework and laser show
       will complete the show, which is guaranteed to be fun for the whole family. Concert goers are
       encouraged to bring their own drinks and picnics to this event.
       Finishing the weekend on Sunday 2nd August will bring the multi mullion selling record artists UB40
       Reunited supported by The Brand New Heavies. UB40’s Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue
       reunite and make a special stop off at Bedford as part of the LPH Concert weekend spectacular.
