The early business case for EV infrastructure is challenging
while EV numbers are so low

   Charging infrastructure is a
   “chicken and egg” dilemma

   • Consumers won’t purchase until
                                                   Minimum coverage
     infrastructure exists

   • Investment requires sufficient Demand gap
     volume

The NRMA is leading discussions on measures that will support
the adoption of EVs in Australia

Recommendations:

Make charging infrastructure investment a priority – Direct investment and
facilitating utilities and preparatory work to support streamlined planning
approvals.

Remove barriers to the purchase of EVs – A short-term exemption to Fringe
Benefits Tax and abolish the Luxury Car Tax for EVs.

Set EV fleet targets – for Australian Governments and the corporate sector.

Establish an inter-governmental working group – with industry and consumer
reps to guide and co-ordinate the transition to electric road transport.

Promote EV related industries – encourage research and development in EV
batteries and other technologies associated with EVs.
