Happy New Year! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
I hope that you and those you love had a blessed Christmas and joyous New Year’s Eve. Even though it was
much more muted holiday than most are used to; in many ways, many people I recently spoke with noted a very
special layer of poignancy to this year’s celebration. While the lockdown made the mad dash for shopping a
near impossibility, this alone brought a renewed focus of peace to this season of festival (at least in the
Carpenter house).
As we start 2021, many of us do so with great hope
and expectation – themes which run in tandem with
not only Christmas, but also the season we entered on
January 6 ~ Epiphany. As we wait for further notice
of vaccine distribution, we are also keenly aware of
the data of infection rates and the ongoing
responsibility we have to love and respect our
neighbour by staying the course.
I was really moved by this photo which was sent to
me this week and am heartened that in the safety and
security of your homes – we have proved that Covid-
19 did not take Christmas away from us, but rather
invited us into a different experience of the hope of
the birth of Jesus to teach us more than we thought
possible.
St Jude’s has been a constant beacon of hope for people in this part of our city for over 172 years! Thanks be to
God for everything you have all done to be a part of that hope in the past year and in that great expectation
sitting on the horizon of 2021. Fr Greg
Current lockdown and protocols. On December 26, the Ontario government initiated a province-wide
lockdown (an extension of that which Toronto was currently under). While this current situation is scheduled to
last in Toronto until January 23, we will wait for further instruction on how we go about our day to day life
beyond that date. The office will be closed during this time. While Fr Greg will be able to work in his office, all
in person meetings and non-essential gatherings are postponed for the time being. If you wish to drop something
off at the parish, please phone in advance or send an email to arrange for delivery. As previously noted, our
Food Bank continues to operate as an essential service on Wednesdays from 10:00am – Noon.
Envelopes for 2021 and Tax Receipts for 2020. With the New Year upon us, our Treasurer is now hard at
work to close off our financial books for 2020 and prepare for the annual audit. Any donations received or post-
dated by December 31, 2020 are eligible to be included in your tax receipt. Thanks to everyone who faithfully
supported the life and ministry of St Jude’s in 2020 – during a very challenging year, you have been our
partners in mission.
The tax receipts for 2020 will be prepared by the end of January. We will let you know in the weekly
announcements – in case you want to come by and pick your receipt up from the office.
KEEPING OUR CAUSE OF HOPE
Vestry 2021. The Annual meeting of Vestry is scheduled for Sunday February 28. Due to the uncertainty of
Covid-19 and larger gatherings, parishes have been given permission to hold these meetings virtually. We will
set up a Zoom meeting for our Annual meeting of Vestry. The identification number and password will be
circulated in the coming weeks in the communications emails, and listed in our announcements.
If you are responsible for a report to Vestry, please forward a digital copy of your report to the office by Sunday
February 7, 2021.
Food Bank update. As you may have noticed from the weekly reports, the ongoing ministry of our Food Bank
is as vital today as we knew it to be prior to Covid-19. We enjoyed a very successful Reverse Advent calendar
drive, which has helped stock our shelves for the start of 2021. Thanks so much for your incredible generosity!
We received some very generous donations which have helped us immensely: from our St Jude’s family,
Ecumenical partners, community organizations, and individuals. It has all made such a difference to how we
have been able to help those with food security issues.
Statistics regarding our Food Bank ministry in 2020 may help explain how vital we are in our community. Last
year, we saw 2,371 family visits over the course of the year (an average of 44 families per week). Additionally,
107 new families were registered in 2020.
Repairs and renovations. Following the damage
sustained by the basement flood in August 2020, it was
decided to remove the old storage units which held the
round tables in the Hall. A new unit was installed to hold
all of the tables on the west side of the hall. A further
storage unit for the chairs and other items was newly
built by Nicolas Castaneda (as pictured here).
Furthermore, Nicolas has started the work of restoring the
pews from our historic chapel. Apart from ensuring their
overall stability, he is also adding a new arm on the end
which was previously fixed directly into the wall (see his
handiwork here). Thanks for all your hard work Nicolas!

Happy New Year! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
Espero que usted y sus seres queridos hayan tenido una Navidad bendecida y una feliz Nochebuena. Aunque
fueron unas vacaciones mucho más silenciosas de lo que la mayoría está acostumbrado; en muchos sentidos,
muchas personas con las que hablé recientemente notaron un nivel muy especial de conmoción en la
celebración de este año. Si bien el cierre hizo que la carrera loca por ir de compras fuera casi imposible, esto
solo trajo un enfoque renovado de paz a esta temporada de festivales (al menos en la casa Carpenter).
Al comenzar el 2021, muchos de nosotros lo
hacemos con gran esperanza y expectativa, temas
que van en conjunto no solo con la Navidad, sino
también con la temporada a la que entramos el 6
de enero: La Epifanía. Mientras esperamos un
nuevo aviso de la distribución de las vacunas,
también somos muy conscientes de los datos de
las tasas de infección y de la responsabilidad
continua que tenemos de amar y respetar a nuestro
prójimo manteniendo el rumbo.
Realmente me conmovió esta foto que me
enviaron esta semana y me alegra que en la
seguridad de sus hogares, hemos demostrado que
el Covid-19 no nos quitó la Navidad, sino que nos
invitó a una experiencia diferente de la esperanza del nacimiento de Jesús para enseñarnos más de lo que
creíamos posible.
¡St Jude ha sido un faro constante de esperanza para la gente de esta parte de nuestra ciudad durante más de 172
años! Gracias a Dios por todo lo que han hecho para ser parte de esa esperanza en el último año y en esa gran
expectativa que se asoma en el horizonte del 2021. Padre Greg
Cierres y protocolos actuales. El 26 de diciembre, el gobierno de Ontario inició un cierre en toda la provincia
(una extensión de lo que Toronto ya estaba actualmente). Si bien esta situación actual está programada para
durar en Toronto hasta el 23 de enero, esperaremos más instrucciones sobre cómo nos ocupamos de nuestro día
a día más allá de esa fecha. La oficina estará cerrada durante este tiempo. Si bien el Padre Greg podrá trabajar
en su oficina, todas las reuniones en persona y las reuniones no esenciales se posponen por el momento. Si
desea dejar algo en la parroquia, llame con anticipación o envíe un correo electrónico para organizar la entrega.
Como se mencionó anteriormente, nuestro Banco de Comida continúa operando como un servicio esencial los
miércoles de 10:00 am hasta el mediodía.
Sobres para el 2021 y recibos de impuestos para el 2020. Con el Año Nuevo sobre nosotros, nuestro Tesorero
ahora está trabajando arduamente para cerrar nuestros libros financieros del 2020 y prepararse para la auditoría
anual. Cualquier donación recibida o con fecha posterior al 31 de diciembre de 2020 es elegible para ser
incluida en su recibo de impuestos. Gracias a todos los que apoyaron fielmente la vida y el ministerio de St Jude
en el 2020; durante un año muy desafiante, ustedes han sido nuestros socios en la misión.
Los recibos de impuestos para el 2020 se prepararán a fines de enero. Le informaremos en los anuncios
semanales, en caso de que quiera pasar a recoger su recibo en la oficina.

Junta parroquial 2021. La reunión anual de la junta parroquial está programada para el domingo 28 de
febrero. Debido a la incertidumbre del Covid-19 y de reuniones más grandes, se ha dado permiso a las
parroquias para realizar estas reuniones virtualmente. Organizaremos una reunión de Zoom para nuestra reunión
anual de la junta parroquial. El número de identificación y la contraseña se distribuirán en las próximas semanas
en los correos electrónicos de comunicaciones y se enumerarán en nuestros anuncios.
Si usted es responsable de un informe para la Junta Anual, envíe una copia digital de su informe a la oficina
antes del domingo 7 de febrero de 2021.
Actualización del Banco de Comida. Como habrá notado en los informes semanales, el ministerio continuo de
nuestro Banco de Comida es tan vital hoy conocíamos antes del Covid-19. Disfrutamos de una campaña de
calendario de Adviento inverso muy exitosa, que ha ayudado a abastecer nuestros estantes para el comienzo del
2021. ¡Muchas gracias por su increíble generosidad!
Recibimos algunas donaciones muy generosas que nos han ayudado enormemente: de nuestra familia de St
Jude, socios ecuménicos, organizaciones comunitarias e individuos. Todo ha marcado una gran diferencia en
cómo hemos podido ayudar a quienes tienen problemas de seguridad alimentaria.
Las estadísticas sobre nuestro ministerio del Banco de Alimentos en el 2020 pueden ayudar a explicar cuán
vitales somos en nuestra comunidad. El año pasado, vimos 2,371 visitas familiares a lo largo del año (un
promedio de 44 familias por semana). Además, se registraron 107 nuevas familias en el 2020.
Reparaciones y renovaciones. Tras los daños sufridos
por la inundación del sótano en agosto del 2020, se decidió
retirar las antiguas unidades de almacenamiento que
albergaban las mesas redondas del Salón. Se instaló una
nueva unidad para sostener todas las mesas en el lado
oeste del pasillo. Nicolás Castañeda construyó una unidad
de almacenamiento adicional para las sillas y otros
artículos (como se muestra aquí).
Además, Nicolás ha comenzado los trabajos de restauración de
los bancos de nuestra capilla histórica. Además de garantizar
su estabilidad general, también está agregando un nuevo brazo
en el extremo que previamente se fijó directamente en la pared
(ver su obra aquí). ¡Gracias por todo tu trabajo, Nicolás!
