As such, SEGi collaborates with the University of London (UK) to offer the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme, as well as offering the SEGi homegrown Diploma in Law. In a world where degree providers are rapidly increasing, the University of London LLB offers the security of an internationally recognised ‘gold standard’ established for over 100 years. The University of London was the first to offer a degree in English Law, in the 1890s. Upon graduation students will join a distinguished group of solicitors, barristers and judges around the world who began their careers by obtaining their law degree through the University of London International Programmes. The University of London is one of the world’s leading academic institutions. The University of London External
System is the oldest distance-learning programme in the world – its degree has been accessible to students
worldwide since 1858. Today, it has over 45,000 students in more than 180 countries studying 100 different
courses.
In a world where degree providers are proliferating, the University of London LLB offers the security of an
internationally recognised ‘gold standard’ established for over 100 years. The University of London was the first to
offer a degree in English Law, in the 1890s. Upon graduation, you will be joining a distinguished group of

the External System.
The UOL LLB External Programme is the only external law degree awarded by a British University that is recognised
by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board of Malaysia for entry into the CLP examinations.
The University of London LLB by external study is recognised in many jurisdictions as satisfying requirement for the
academic stage of legal study. Satisfactory completion of a Laws Skills Portfolio is a requirement for the LLB as a
‘Qualifying Law Degree’. In order to practice as a solicitor the successful LLB graduate must go on to complete the
Legal Practice Course at a validated institution.

SAMUEL DESMOND TUAH
Lecturer
Samuel Desmond Tuah is a Lecturer in SEGi College Sarawak for the Faculty of Law. He has 3 years industry experience joining
organisations such the London Stock Exchange (LSEG) and eventually settling as a lecturer in SEGI College Sarawak. He is the
current subject expert for Criminal Law. He is also a member of the Malaysian Youth Parliament and currently sits in its
socioeconomic committee advising the Ministry of Youth and Sports. He is also a certified HRDF trainer. Samuel graduated from
the University of London (L.L.B) (Hons) in 2017.
DAVID BONG
Lecturer
David Bong graduated with a Bachelor of Jurisprudence from University of Malaya in 2004 and subsequently pursued his
Master of Laws at the University of Hertfordshire in 2005. After finishing in 2006, he came back to Kuching and joined SEGi
College Sarawak as a law lecturer on a yearly contract basis for 3 years. In 2009, he became a full-time staff and continued
teaching at SEGi. The subjects of specialisation in his teaching include Legal Systems (English and Malaysian) and Constitutional
Law (Public Law).
JONATHAN TAN
Lecturer
Jonathan Tan read law in University of London, United Kingdom and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws LLB. (Hons) with a
Qualifying Law Degree (‘QLD’) in the year 2012. He subsequently obtained his Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP, Malaysia) in
2013. Thereafter, Jonathan was called to the bar as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur in
2014 and, in the year 2016, was called to the bar as an advocate of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak in Kuching. Having
worked in legal industries mainly in multifarious civil litigation cases, conveyancing, as well as having undergone trainings
conducted by the National Legal Aid Foundation (Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan, “YBGK”), Jonathan Tan began his
career as a law lecturer at SEGi College Sarawak in June 2017. Since then, Jonathan has been teaching main-stream and
non-main-stream law subjects at SEGi.

Your previous studies and qualifications may earn credits towards your diploma or degree. The award of credits is given on the basis of subject mapping and
grades achieved. The maximum transferrable credits you may earn for a previous academic qualification could be 50% of the total credits at the Bachelor’s
degree. Work experience, MOOCs and other training certifications may earn you credit transfers of up to 30%. All credit transfers are subject to approval by
the Senate or College Academic Board.

EXPERIENCE COUNTS APEL(A)
Get admission into our SEGi programme through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning or APEL, which is a
systematic process that involves the identification, documentation and assessment of prior experiential learning to
determine the extent to which an individual has achieved the desired learning outcomes, for access to a programme of
study and/or award of credits.
APEL provides an opportunity for individual with working experience but lack of formal academic qualifications to pursue
their studies in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). In general, knowledge obtained through formal education and working
experience will be both assessed in APEL’s assessment.
At the moment, APEL in Malaysia can only be used as entry requirement to HEIs for the following level of qualification:
• Level 3 (Certificate); • Level 6 (Bachelor's Degree); and
• Level 4 (Diploma); • Level 7 (Master's Degree)
Candidates are required to submit the application for APEL(A) certification to MQA directly.
