County Commissioner's Corner
Firstly I'd like to round up the year with a personal thanks to all those who have welcomed me
to my new role and offered support and encouragement in my first 4 months in post.
As I write this in mid December, we await further news on if Tier 3 restrictions will be lifted
and what Christmas in the Tees Valley will look like this year.
What I do know is that 2020 has been one of the most difficult and fraught years for
Scouting in living memory. Our leaders and young people have experienced emotions and
difficulties that were beyond imagination this time last year. And yet in spite of personal
worries and challenges, every single member of the movement has done what they can to
ensure Scouting continues and that our young people can continue to have the experiences that make Scouting
unique. We may not have had as many camps and section meetings as normal but the Virtual campfires and North
East Summer of Scouting that was produced shows that nothing can stop Scouts when they set their mind to
something. This was highlighted by the ability to pull together a county wide virtual St Georges day with little to no
planning time or previous experience.
Can I take this moment to thank you all for your incredible commitment and hard work to keeping Scouting going
throughout 2020. May you and your families have a restful and peaceful Christmas and look forward to seeing you
at increasing face to face activities as we move through 2021.

Food Bank Collection
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the foodbank collection and they couldn’t praise the scouts
enough for the support and on that success it’s something we are looking to repeat in 2021 with ongoing support to
the foodbank where we can. This has given to young people an idea of what people less fortunate have to rely on to
keep food on the table and what a lifeline the foodbank is and made them understand that anyone can find
themselves relying on this vital service in their life more so now than ever.
Again we thank you on behalf of Middlesbrough Scout District and hope to see your support again in the future.
