Greetings Falcon Nation,

Lively students continue to have fun lled experiences with Lively elective courses. This week Ms.
Pearce’s Harry Potter Wizarding Class students sorted themselves into their Hogwarts houses. The
four possible houses a student may be sorted into are: Gry ndor, Hu epuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.
After sorting, students will be writing acceptance letters to their Hogwarts house. Students are
encouraged to dress in Cosplay and or dress up as their favorite character(s) from the Harry Potter
series. It has been so fun seeing students engaging in topics of interest in meaningful ways!

Teacher of the Year & Teacher of Promise
Last week, two outstanding Lively teachers received honors. Please join me in congratulating Ms.

The most important information shared from CAC was parent feedback about how some of our
students are still struggling with online learning and being away from school. I don’t have a magic
solution to help our students and families that may be struggling, but what I can say is that it would
not hurt to give your child a mental health day. You know your child best and if assignments, online
learning, or other activities are stressing your child out taking a mental health day may help.

Licensed Mental Health Professionals are available across the district to provide support to
students and families facing challenges that interfere with their academic or interpersonal
success and other complex needs. For more information, contact Kimberly Eerkes at
     kimberly.eerkes@austinisd.org
School Mental Health Centers offer teletherapy services to the entire Austin ISD community. To
learn more about School Mental Health Centers, visit our website or email Shechem Sauls at
     shechem.sauls@austinisd.org.
The Mental Health Matters bi-monthly newsletter offers mindfulness ideas and activities for you
and your family. Follow the newsletter to have it delivered directly to your email or a paper copy
can be found in the seven-day meal packs.
The Austin ISD Employee Assistance Program helps take care of the emotional needs of all AISD
employees and their loved ones. Services are available 24/7, and are 100% free and con dential
for all AISD employees. Supports include counseling, legal and nancial assistance, and daily life
assistance. Learn more at the Austin ISD website.

COUNSELOR CORNER
Mental Health Note
Bad days come and go and when we are in the midst of a bad day it is hard sometimes to think it will
make it back to being a good day. To help manage feelings in a mindful way try the R.A.I.N. formula.

R-recognize the emotion you are feeling. Name the emotion (mood meter) in your mind, if you can.
A-accept the experience you are having. Yes, you probably don’t like this emotion but the reality is that
Lively Middle School February 5, 2021 - Austin ISD
it’s here at the moment.
I-investigate Become curious about your experience. Where do you feel the emotion in your body?
What kind of thoughts are going through your mind?
N-non-identi cation see the emotion as a passing event rather than who you actually are, just as
different images are re ected in a mirror but are not the mirror.

Sometimes you just need to do one step, whereas at other times you may want to work through the
whole formula. Do what you need and be sure to reach out if you need more help.
