The city of Bloemfontein, situated in the South African province of the Free State, is home to the University of the Free State.

The UFS Business School, located in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, has firmly established itself as a leader
in the provision of management and leadership programmes within South Africa. In addition to its large spectrum of management

innovative managers equipped to excel in today’s corporate and business environment.

ADMISSION
Application and admission to the MBA programme is done
through the UFS Business School.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
At least 25 years of age.
At least three years of relevant managerial experience/work
experience.
And one of the following:
A four year relevant Bachelors’ degree.
A relevant Honours degree.
A RPL Process (candidates admitted according to a RPL
process cannot be more than 10% per intake).
DURATION
The MBA programme is primarily aimed at part-time students.
Expected duration of study is 2 to 3 years. If exemptions based
on prior study learning are granted, this period can be shorter.
DATE OF COMMENCE
A new group of students commences their studies every
January and July. Applications for the January intake close
15 October each year and for the July intake 15 March each
year.
FEES
Refer to the attached fee structure.
South Africans citizens- Students with bursaries must hand in
the original letter during the registration period. International
students- No bursaries will be accepted from international
students.
SELECTION PROCESS
After successful application, applicants will be required to
complete the selection tests.
The selection tests consist of the following:
A battery of psychometric assessments.
Skills tests in accounting, numeracy, computer and
English proficiency.

REGISTRATION
Registration for the MBA programme is done through the
Business School. At least 10 students must register for a specific
elective module for it to be offered. The Director makes the
final decision in this regard.
It is at all times the responsibility of the student to ensure that
his/her registration is correct.
Students are only allowed to register for 3 modules in their
first semester of registration. The maximum number of modules
a student can register for per semester is 4 modules.
INSTRUCTION & ASSESSMENT METHODS
The MBA programme involves resource-based learning
implying self-study with the aid of a course guide.
Assessment includes tests, assignments and projects, while
group activities are performed to develop team skills.
Independent studies are undertaken to promote research
capabilities. Formal examinations also form part of the
assessment. The programme is presented in English.
CLASS ATTENDANCE
Three full-day contact sessions are scheduled for each semes-
ter module and orientation session. The contact session for
the different semester modules are scheduled, as far as possible,
on consecutive days to accomodate students from outside
Bloemfontein. Class attendance is compulsory.
STUDY MATERIAL
All study guides will be supplied by the Business School.
Prescribed books are not included in tuition fees.
GRADUATION
Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for June/July and
December.

The course content of the UFS Business School MBA enhances and develops managers and leaders, broadly covering all aspects
and challenges that managers and leaders might face in today’s ever changing business environment.
The curriculum is comprised of 17 modules on NQF Level 8 with 320 credits:

Kindly apply at the MBA office for exemption after you have been admitted to the MBA programme. Certified copies of the relevant
academic records and syllabus/ses must be included in the application for exemptions. (Note that exemption and recognition
of prior learning will only be granted for courses passed during the past five years for post-graduate studies).
