DAY 2: Tues 7 September Merimbula and Eden

After breakfast we make the short trip from Merimbula to Eden where we will
board the Cat Balou for our two hour Twofold Bay Cruise. The cruise takes
in the historical sights of this whaling port including Boyd’s Tower, Edrom
Lodge, the Naval/multi-purpose wharf, the woodchip mill, mussel farms,
Quarantine Bay and the magnificent Seahorse Inn at Boydtown. Back on dry

the Seahorse Inn. Boydtown was the original settlement in the bay and was
founded by Benjamin Boyd in 1843 to service his properties on the Monaro
Plains. The Seahorse Inn, named after one of Boyd’s steam- boats was the
first building erected with the foundations constructed of sandstone imported
                          from Sydney.
After lunch we make our way back in to Merimbula where we will have some
free time to wander this beautiful little fishing and popular holiday village. Dinner
tonight is at the Merimbula Aquarium and Wharf Restaurant, overlooking the
                          water.

MEALS Breakfast at Motel, lunch at Seahorse Inn,

DAY 3: Wed 8 September Tilba Tilba and Bermagui

This morning we make our way north to Tilba Tilba and the amazing Foxglove
Gardens. This enchanting and absolutely beautiful property encompasses three
and a half acres of exquisite open gardens, and has been featured on TV shows
including Burke’s Backyard, and Better Homes and Gardens. The essence of
the gardens is one of romance, fairy tale like charm and quaint English style
elegance. With each season there are new wonders and floral delights to
explore. A large section of the grounds have been extensively and beautifully
developed over many years, with water features, a gardened ruin and the
Willow House overlooking the duck pond.
Having enjoyed a delicious morning tea and the gardens we head in to
Bermagui for lunch (own expense). Bermagui hugs the edges of a spectacular
harbour and nestles under the shadow of Dromedary Mountain, the small
vibrant town is famous for its deep sea and game fishing, including yellow fin
tuna and marlin. Following some free tme we visit the Montreal Goldfield. In
September 1880, gold was discovered on a beach north of Bermagui. Named
Montreal Goldfield, the rush barely lasted from 1880–1883 but nearly 250kg of
gold was unearthed using only a pick and shovel. It became the only goldfield in
Australia that extends into the sea. This goldfield was also the start of the great
unsolved Bermagui Mystery – the disappearance of a government surveyor and
                          four other men.

                          ACCOMMODATION Pelican Motor Inn, Merimbula

DAY 4: Thurs 9 September Mallacoota and Lakes Entrance

We farewell Merimbula and head south where we and cross the border back
into Victoria. Not far from here we turn off the highway and make our way to
Gypsy Point on the Wallagaraugh River. It is here we will be met by Dale and
his boat, the historic Loch Ard. Built in the early 1900’s from Tasmanian Huon
and Kauri it first operated as a passenger ferry in Lakes Entrance before coming
to Mallacoota some 30 plus years ago.
Today we will venture in to the most remote corner of Victoria and see rare Sea
Eagles and Eastern Water Dragons together with an abundance of birdlife in
their natural habitat. Our cruise concludes in Mallacoota where we will be met
by the coach and head in to town for lunch. This afternoon we make our way in
to the seaside village of Lakes Entrance for the last night of our tour.

                           ACCOMMODATION Glenara Motel, Lakes Entrance

MEALS Breakfast and dinner at Motel, lunch at Mallacoota Hotel

DAY 5: Friday 10 September Walhalla to Melbourne

Up bright and early, we make our way from Lakes Entrance to the historic
township of Walhalla. Located in the Great Dividing Range, in the steep
Stringers Creek valley, approximately four kilometres upstream of the creek’s
junction with the Thomson River. The area around the town is designated as
an historic area, adjoining the Baw Baw National Park, Walhalla and was
founded as a gold- mining community in late 1862 which at its peak was
home to around 4,000 residents. Today, the town has a population of about 20
                           permanent residents.
No visit to Walhalla would be complete without a ride on the Walhalla
Goldfields Railway, the narrow gauge railway runs through the Stringy Creek
Valleys in to the township of Walhalla. Lunch today will be at the Walhalla Pub,
and after lunch we make our way back to Melbourne later in the afternoon to
                           complete a wonderful tour.

MEALS Breakfast in Motel, lunch at Walhalla Pub
