Message from the Board of Directors
We are so glad that at last we are up and moving. The Osprey Room at the Recreation Center
has been turned over to the Island Seniors. It has been made warm and cozy for the comfort of
our members. Coffee and conversation are every morning from 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Select
card games are back in action as well. Monday and Wednesday from 12:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
Bridge will be held inside the Osprey Room. Thursday from 12:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Mahjongg
will be taking place in the same location, the Osprey Room. So please feel free to come by for
a cup of joe and conversation or catch your favorite card game. We are excited to announce
kayak will be coming soon. A preliminary kayak meeting will be held before we can begin
our kayaking adventures. We will be holding the annual meeting in person and will be
moving forward with the Arts and Crafts Fair in February 2022. It’s not our usual homey
Center 4 Life, but it is a good temporary location. We hope to see all your smiling faces in the
Osprey Room at the Recreation Center.

Additionally, changes to the newsletter will begin this month. It will now be published by the
15th of every month for the following months news and activities. In addition to members
receiving the newsletter via email, it will also be posted on mysanibel.com and our new
website at center4life.org. If you are not receiving a copy of newsletter, please contact Jessica
Gonnelly at 239-472-0345 ext. 711.

The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson
Erik Larson is one of the America’s greatest writers of nonfiction, and with his latest
book, he turns his sharp eye to Winston Churchill’s first year as prime minister of the
United Kingdom. Larson delves into Churchill and his family and provides a gripping
account of the Blitz, paying attention to its effects on ordinary Britons. You don’t have to
be a history buff to love this bravura performance by one of the America’s greatest
storytellers – Michael Schaub, book critic.

Arts and Crafts Fair, February 5, 2022
Great News! City council approved our permit for the Arts and Crafts Fair. It will be held at
the outdoor Pavilion located near the ball fields at the Sanibel School. Vendors are beginning
to apply now. We will need volunteers the day of the fair to help with set up and break down
of tables and chairs, monitoring activities throughout the fair, and directing individuals to the
pavilion. Our beloved delicious hots dogs will be sold along with soda and chips. Please see
Dave or Jessica if you would like to volunteer.

Has anyone been crafty during the pandemic closure? If so, consider renting a table and
selling your wares! Contact Eileen Kehoe at ekkehoe@icloud.com.

Meditation
Full-Time Sanibel resident and Center4Life volunteer Cristina Shaul will lead a simple guided
meditation via ZOOM for peace, calm, and clarity. No experience is needed. Please join us!
The benefits of meditation for clearing worry, tension, and random thought patterns is well
documented. A few minutes each day can soothe the nervous system into a more restful state.
It can enable peaceful dreams, mental clarity, balance, and help us make decisions from a
calm inner place. Meditation is easier in a group. Cristina will lead for approximately 20-25
minutes. She encourages participants to sit in a comfortable chair. The ZOOM camera can be
on or off. Please join us via ZOOM on Mondays at 4 p.m.
