Katrina Harvey kharv132@eq.edu.auPrincipal’s Report I often speak of the sincere privilege I feel to lead our fabulous school. It was wonderful to connect with new members of our community at the Junior Secondary Expo on Wednesday 25th August. I feel such a sense of pride when I speak about our school, our supportive community, our exceptional teachers, and our outstanding outcomes. Rather than sharing my opinion of our school, I thought I would share the words from our VET audit and Internal School review. As mentioned in the last newsletter we were eagerly waiting to confirm the outcome of the VET audit. After the audit is completed, schools are given a provider profile, there are six possible profiles. Deception Bay State High School have received the highest possible provider profile, Exceptional Performance. Congratulations to our brilliant vocational education team. Thank you for the work you do every day to ensure our learners have access to a high quality, vocational curriculum. During Week 7 of the Term, we conducted an internal school review supported by a recently retired Executive Principal and school auditor. We were fortunate to have Wayne Troyahn lead members of our leadership team in conducting an internal review. During the review the team analysed our data, our strategic plans and conducted interviews with all members of Administration, Heads of Department, Year Level Leaders, over 40 teachers, 6 teacher aides, members of the office team, support team, grounds staff, cleaners, student leaders, 24 additional students, our P&C President and 20 parents.
Principal’s Report Continued..
The review team compiled all information gathered into a 14-page report focusing on seven domains. This
report will be instrumental in supporting the development of our next 4-year strategic plan. I can’t wait to
do this work and look forward to our continued work to enhance our school and ‘empower our learners to
thrive.’

Junior Secondary Expo
On Wednesday 25th of August, we had our annual JS Expo to showcase our school and hold enrolment
interviews for our 2022 year 7 cohort. These year 6 students and their parents enjoyed a school tour,
complimentary coffee and cookie and a wonderfully informative presentation by Ms Mickelborough. A
big thank you to all staff and students involved in the evening and a warm welcome to our next cohort of
Dbay students.
We will be opening more enrolment sessions for our 2022 Year 7 students very soon. Keep an eye out on
our Facebook page for more details and online booking link.
Junior Secondary
RAGE PROGRAM: This year we have been running the
highly acclaimed RAGE program for our Junior
Secondary and Middle School students. This solution
focused program, helps students build practical skills in
managing their anger and making positive choices at
school and beyond. Students develop a growing
awareness of themselves on their path to adulthood.
There are 6 sessions that students attend to complete
the program and each session runs for 65 minutes.Middle School Secondary In addition to preparing Year 9 students for SET PLAN interviews Mrs Opacic has been leading the extension class through a life coaching program called Coaching Young People For Success. This program supports students in selecting meaningful subjects in their senior journey. Senior Secondary News SET Planning is the first step in preparing students for the options they would like to pursue. It prepares them for the journey after school. A 20 minute interview is hosted between students, parents/carers and a school representative to discuss subjects for Year 11/12 and a desired pathway after school. Bookings for SET Plan interviews open 31st August at: https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70708 What to bring for the interview: Copy of student’s Birth Certificate and Medicare Card for USI application. Please be aware that Covid mandates must be followed, including wearing of face mask, signing in via the Check In Qld app and hand sanitising. Music Department Beautiful work! Big thank you to the Tier 1 PBL team for their work to continue to provide rewards for our students. Week 8 was a big hit with our first Baycoin Booksale. The English department and PBL team collected over 100 books which sold out in minutes. This is such an exciting shift for our school, and it was lovely to see students spending their Baycoin to buy books for family members, peers and staff. Week 9 brings our first Halloween Baycoin Ekka! The whole event is themed with spooky food, games and events. Please encourage your students to spend BIG as Baycoin expire at the end of 2021.
Hospitality Department Year 11 students have been working overtime in hospitality in the last few weeks creating lunches and delicious mocktails an sold to teachers. Year 10 Work Placement: Term 3 saw half of our Year 10 Hospitality students head out to their first Industry Work Placement in various cafes, restaurants and businesses. Many of these businesses have been working with us for several years however we also have several new ones that we have the pleasure of working with in 2021. The feedback from employers in regards to these students was fantastic, with many saying these were their best students ever. We are always so proud of our students and their eagerness to learn and pick up new skills in this new setting. Unfortunately, the Brisbane Lockdown came right when the second half of the Year 10 group were due to start, thereby inrupting their Work Placement. These students have been busily trying to get their services done through our very own Bay Café and are already looking forward to future opportunities in Year 11 and 12. A huge thank you to our Hospitality Industry Partners for supporting our students – Knot Just Bread, Mermaids by the Sea, Zesty Lemon Café, Michel’s Patisserie, Bay Delights, Zone Bakery, Coffee Club Kippa Ring, Redcliffe Leagues Club, Hogs Breath Redcliffe, Café Diversity, Mon Komo, The Belvedere, Coffee Club Mango Hill, Coffee Club North Lakes, North Lakes Sports Club, Hogs Breath Morayfield, Caboolture Sports Club and Beachmere Hotel.
