FINANCIAL INFORMATION
Employment Insurance
Through the Employment Insurance (EI) system, the Government of Canada provides income
support to eligible apprentices during periods of technical training.
To be considered for EI benefits while attending technical training, apply as soon as you stop
working. If you have applied for, or are receiving EI benefits prior to training, you must
complete another application indicating your technical training information.

      You will require an EI Reference Code to access the Apprentice application form. This
       number can be obtained from the Program Office at 403-320-3411.

      Be aware that you may not receive Employment Insurance payments for as long as four
       to six weeks after you start classes. Plan to have alternative financial arrangements in
       place during this time.

Grants, Loans & Tax Benefits
Student Aid Alberta Grants and Loans
Student Aid Alberta provides loans and grants to apprentices registered in the Alberta
apprenticeship program with Apprenticeship and Industry Training who are attending an
approved technical training program as a full-time student.
As long as you are registered and progressing as an apprentice, you will remain in interest-free
status on your current and previous Alberta student loans for the duration of your
apprenticeship program including technical training and on-the-job training. For more

Canada Apprentice Loan (CAL)
The Canada Apprentice Loan is an initiative of the Government of Canada to help complete
your apprenticeship in a designated Red Seal trade. You can apply for up to $4,000 in interest-
free loans per period of technical training. The money will be available to you to help with
tuition, tools, equipment and living expenses, to cover forgone wages and to help support
your family.

Canada Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG)
The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) is a taxable cash grant of $1,000 per year, to a
maximum of $2,000. This Grant helps registered apprentices get started in designated Red
Seal trades.

Canada Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG)
The Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG) is a taxable cash grant of $2,000. This Grant helps
registered apprentices who have completed their training to become certified journeypersons
in designated Red Seal trades.

In our shared accommodations, each resident enjoys the privacy of their own bedroom,
sharing common areas and bathrooms in either four-bedroom or two-bedroom apartment-
style units. These residences are fully furnished and come equipped with dishes, utensils,
toasters, coffee-makers, toasters, and basic cookware.

If you prefer to live alone, Kodiak House may be the answer for you. This modern building
offers single suites for mature learners. Each suite has a private bathroom, kitchenette
complete with microwave, hotplate, coffee-maker, toaster, dishes, utensils and basic
cookware. There are 15 barrier-free suites available in Kodiak House for students who require
wheelchair or other mobility access.

All utilities, as well as high speed internet, are included in the cost of residence. If you require
Wi-Fi, you are welcome to bring your own wireless router. Coin-operated laundry facilities are
open at the Cullen Residence Centre and the 30th

Public Parking
Hourly/Daily Paid Parking is available in Lot O located adjacent to the Physical Education
Building at a cost of $2 for 4 hours or $4 for all day.

Student Parking
Reserved Student Parking is available in Lots B, C, D, F, J, N, ST, Cullen, and 30th Ave by
purchasing a permit through the Bookstore.

Parking Violations
Parking violations will result in City of Lethbridge tickets being issued. Improper parking could
result in vehicles being towed at the owner’s expense. Ticket appeals must be made at City
Hall.
Information Technology Services - Help Desk
We have three Help Desk Analysts dedicated to serving students and staff. Our
analysts are able to solve most issues over the phone. If not, the issue will be assigned
to the appropriate area and treated as a Work Order. A First Response Technician will
be dispatched.

STUDENT SERVICES
Library
The Buchanan Library is the hub of learning at Lethbridge College. Here you’ll find the
research materials and you’ll require to complete your class assignments. But you’ll also find a
place to work on class projects, access a wealth of information in several formats and find
helpful advice to help you find what you need.
Lethbridge College students have full access to two Commons in the library and in the
Instructional Building. The Commons provide the following services:

Lockers
A limited number of lockers are available to registered students and are issued on a first come,
first serve basis. Only LCSA issued locks are allowed on Campus lockers. Students can register
for the rental of a locker and be issued a lock through the LCSA office (CE 1350), during normal
office hours. Locker users are required to pay a $10 rental fee for the locker as well as a $10
deposit for the issued lock. Locker Registrations are valid until May 30 of the Academic year,
return your lock to the LCSA offices by this date, and the LCSA will refund your $10 lock
deposit. Arrangements can be made for students taking spring/ summer courses.

Health Services
Your health and well-being on our campus is important to us. We’ve developed a
comprehensive list of services, available to all students and staff and their families.

Two registered nurses are on duty during clinic hours. They provide information and
counselling on general health, nutrition and weight management, smoking cessation, alcohol
and drug education and sexual health, including prevention of sexually transmitted diseases,
birth control and pregnancy.

At Health Services, we provide first aid and emergency services for injuries and illnesses.

We have several doctors who share daily clinic hours, Monday through Friday. Walk-in
appointments are available; priority will be given to those who have booked ahead. The
Shepell fgi Personal Counsellor for students is located in Health Services and assistance to
contact the Student Support Program can be made in the office.

We provide immunizations to students in programs that require them. Resource material is
available for those working on special assignments related to health and illness. Please check
with Health Services staff for specific services or to book appointments.

Student Counselling
Lethbridge College offers all Lethbridge College students access to a Student Support Program
(SSP) provided by Shepell fgi. Counselling sessions can take place through different modes of
delivery such as: face-to-face, telephone, video, text-based, e-counselling and first chat.
Services can be accessed 24/7/365 by calling 1-855-649-8641 or online at workhealthlife.com.
A wide variety of health and wellness services are also available including: financial support
services, health coaching, risk prevention, legal advice, nutritional services and more.
Counselling Services are located at Health Services (CE1380). Following assessment you may
be referred to other support services on campus.

Accommodations and services for apprentices with chronic health conditions and mobility,
sensory (e.g. vision and hearing), learning, attentional, neurological, psychological and
temporary disabilities.

No evening coverage is currently available, however some accommodated exams may be
supported during evening Testing Services hours.

Food Services
Food Services offer a wide variety of fresh menu items, from fresh-made sandwiches and
soups, to pizza, burgers and heart-smart cuisine. Just about everywhere on campus you will
find modern vending machines that dispense snacks, candy, sandwiches, hot and cold
beverages, chips, etc.
Tim Hortons
Students, staff and visitors to Lethbridge College can also stop by for their favorite double-
double or a box of Timbits at the college’s Tim Hortons counter. Departments and groups on
campus are welcome to order items for their meetings and gatherings, including coffee,
pastries and sandwiches.
This full-service outlet generally follows the academic calendar and is open when regular
classes are in session.
